So sad that Dianne blamed herself over this, she's their older sister not their mother. Just 15 years old she's regularly left in charge of three toddlers who she even shares a room with, while she's probably drowsy from the meds, has to remember to take them at the right times or they won't work at all, meaning her risk of having a seizure while babysitting was very high. Plus the mum should have had Marlynn checked out the moment she saw her with Dianne's meds, especially after she described them as 'yucky' and her mum observed that her eyes had turned huge and very strange. These parents have really taken advantage of Dianne and neglected the little ones, it makes so angry. They wouldn't dare if they'd had a hooligan for a daughter like some of the teenage girls I've lived with, it would be like St. Trinians!

I wish I could just hug Diane after hearing her blame herself and say it was her fault. No, sweetheart, It's NOT your fault! If you need to blame anybody, it would have to be your father and stepmother! They left those pills in plain sight where Marlyn and Travis could get them! Medication should be kept out of reach of young children!

My parents taught my brother & I the same thing. Sometimes medicines really can resemble candy though, even after the parents have taught their children the differences. That’s why parents really need keep them securely locked away and out of their children’s reach. One time when I was about Marlyn’s age, I was in a drugstore with my mom. Somebody had left a bottle of pills on the check-out counter. I guess I was not sure if it was candy or not, thank goodness I had the common sense to ask my mom first if I could have it. Thank goodness I asked my mom, otherwise I may have just decided to go open the bottle myself. My mom immediately complained to the store manager about it. Told them how her young daughter was contemplating putting them in her mouth, but luckily asked her mother first if she could have one. Hopefully the store got more careful about where they placed certain pills after this.

I know, right?! The 6-year-old brother had the presence of mind at 4:30 in the morning to wake somebody up when he ever suspected something wasn't right...and isn't even acknowledged for doing what he did?! If it hadn't been for him, she would've been dead 😔 And people are right in saying that Lynn was quite irresponsible. Looking in the mouth to see if anything faded on the tongue just because the pills are pink doesn't mean Marlin didn't take any! And she wasn't even sticking out her tongue so how could Lynn just assume Marlin was okay? And "They yucky..." should've raised red flags! Take her to the hospital instead of just looking in her mouth!

Also, thank goodness he was so smart to know to tell Diane what was happening too. Good Job Buddy!!!! 👏 👏 👏

Yes, I agree. However, sometimes little kids might say something is “yucky” but it does not necessarily mean they tasted something yucky. They may say this about something they know they shouldn’t put in their mouth or they know is not good for them. So the mother could have just thought that’s what her daughter meant. I think the little girls funny eyes should have really been a sign though. The mom really should have brought her to the hospital right away just to have her checked. It’s always better to be safe than sorry.

The thought of what can happen is scary. I'm an auntie to 7 kids & 2 of them are as young as 3 years old. I often worry, as I'm on a lot of different medications & my 2 older sisters help care for me (they always bring the babies with them, as it's often the only time they get to spend with me). Luckily, all my meds are kept in an upper kitchen cupboard & my family are always very careful with everything. I know the dangers of what can happen, because it's similar symptoms to my own near-death experience from 2 years ago (coma, multiple organ failure, life-support, etcetera), except my problem was internal damage. At least I'm here to be a guide to my nieces/nephews once again... 💕

+wndrtch no such thing as a normal parent. There's so many factors that could have played into her decision not take her. Maybe the child had a history of telling the truth. Maybe they had no money for a trip to the ER. Plus maybe she had things distracting her. I still think I would have stayed awake to see if there were any signs at the very least. You can also call poison control and find out the risk. Plus they are awesome, they will call you back every hour to check on you. THe worst part of parenting is you can't know the right decision ahead of time, but you can bet people will line up to judge you if you make the wrong one.

Pills like these can highly resemble candy or sweets. It’s very important to keep them well out of reach of children for this reason. Thank goodness Marlyn was okay. Her brother Sean really was a little hero here. He helped save his sister’s life by waking up and realizing something was not right when Marlyn was making those strange noises in bed. What a good boy!!! This easily could have happened to me one time when I was about Marlyn’s age. I was in the drugstore with my mom and somebody had left a bottle of tablets on the counter near where we were standing. THANK GOODNESS I had the common sense to ask my mom if I could try one, otherwise I probably would have put one in my mouth. My mom immediately complained to the store manager about what had happened, hopefully they were more careful after that. It can really happen very easily and quickly with young children.
