All the lost at sea stories have references to being passed by and not seen by large ships that come so close.... After seeing how hard it is to spot someone from one of these ships you realize how possible it is to be totally unseen by larger ships.

@@PhilCatsea If they have family who are already Citizens (born or naturalized) in the US, or have family who are Lawful Permanent Residents in the US and can demonstrate this, then they can stay here until their case is investigated by DHS and USCIS to determine if they can be given Lawful Permanent Resident status or must be repatriated under the terms of the Joint Agreement that Obama made with Cuba after establishing diplomatic relations in 2014. In May of last year DHS announced that they were implementing some new policies with regard to Cuban refugees including fast tracking their repatriations due to escalating numbers of them trying to come in. I think I remember reading that the USCG captured and sent back more than 120 people in the first week of January alone.

That was amazing. Sadly they probably intentionally rafted out for a better life. I originally thought a vessel had sunk and that was a survival raft. No this was them fleeing Cuba with nothing but what they had in a dry bag, some wet clothes and a $60 raft. Dehydrated, sunburnt, and hungry. Good work Phil C for the great capturing of events and knowing where to go in order to do so.

My parents came to this country in a makeshift raft made with large truck tires & plywood. They were at sea for 5 days, and were rescued after a freighter saw them and contacted the Coast Guard. If you hear the stories about that trek, it’s something out of a movie. Gives me chills everytime I hear their stories, the human emotions & thoughts running through their minds while they were lost at sea. God is good.

This is absolutely terrifying and incredible! The tenacity required to survive at sea in these circumstances and for a successful rescue, is not unseen or emotionless. A raft like that at open sea would most certainly result in death. I hope the 3 rescued people are safe and doing ok - at the very least, we know that trauma surely won't leave quickly. We know things probably weren't great to begin with, for anyone to get lost at sea in such unprepared and greatly limited circumstances. I often hear people underestimate and sugar coat the immense difficulties of rescues at sea (even lakes and large ponds) - always pondering what more trained professionals could do, suggestions of limited effort, a lack of equipment, etc. This video is a perfect example of why these situations often end in absolute tragedy. It's a perfect reminder of just how difficult it is to see lost boats and people in the water - even when zoomed in and being relatively close, most would have no idea these people were right beside them. It's a good reminder for those capable, to always wear life jackets and to be prepared for the absolute worst, while on the water. It's also a good reminder to people of the terrifying experience and risks people go through, while in desperation. Another reminder to have empathy when we hear of mass tragedies at sea: as this isn't something anyone wants to experience, unless they feel completely desperate and there are no other options. Thanks for sharing!

You wouldn't say that if you lived in the UK as dozens and dozens of illegals enter British territory with no paperwork. The government put them up in5 star hotels etc. This is every day 7 million £ per day of our tax money goes to illegal immigrants. 😊

Well, as luck would have it...they will actually qualify for POLITICAL ASYLUM as they're coming from COMMUNIST CUBA. Unlike all the illegals who just want a freebie, rather than making their democratic home country a better place to live. And to top it off, we have morons who were fortunate enough to be born in this country that want to usher us into a COMMUNIST country like the one these people risked their lives to escape.

We had this happen on a cruise about 15 yrs ago. It was. The first night and all the sudden the boat stopped. We rescued a family. They were brought on board and got to cruise with us until we returned back to the states. They were not allowed out of their room however. I was happy we saved them as they had a small infant with them.

Very very good chance that they would have died. They had no propulsion of any kind. Wow. Good thing the crew were on the ball and spotted them. As a professional captain, I have rescued people a couple of times. This is the law of the sea! And common decency. Thanks for videoing this great event.

@@PhilCatsea Thanks. i know that at least 2 of the recuses that we did ( my wife and I ), they would have died. As I say, it’s the law of the sea. And amazing how many people don’t do it. Ships will purposely ignore some one because of the time and cost of diverting a vessel. Another issue is improper to NO watch. That’s why I applaud this ships crew for being observant and responding.
