Awesome video. That single rescuer carry up the stairs seems to be one of the best methods I've seen yet for going up the stairs. Provided you can support the weight of the downed FF. (Handrails would be welcomed)

can you actually imagine doing this in an environment where you can not see and it is hot? NO WAY. Our department has built in straps that are found on the back of all firefighters bunker gear. You lift the strap on the back and pull the cord. The cord has built in straps in the firefighters bunker gear that allow you to drag him/her to safety.

We appreciate your perspective. Actually, that is why we developed this technique. We found that the integrated DRD typically requires two FF's for stair movement with one of the FF's below the victim in the bulldoze lift position. We conducted a test on stair techniques in which we collected data on over three hundred FF's applying every stair technique we could come up with. This was by far the most effective for a one man technique. All techniques were performed in full turnout, blacked out, with salamander heaters directed on the stairs and only one handrail. 92% of this test group had the victim at the top of the stairs in less than 2 minutes (this is from first contact) using the one man stair technique. Additionally, they had approximately one third less air consumption when compared to the other techniques such as the one man DRD lift and drag. I encourage you to give it a try. Run your own departmental time trials with other techniques and let us know what you come up with. Thanks again and Train Hard!!

I haven't tried this method but I'm going to guess using your legs to lift someone up while you go is easier than dragging them up a flight of stairs....in the example he moved up the stairs pretty quickly...but the guy he was carrying wasn't very big lol.

is that "standard drag strap with the girth" simply a girth hitch under the armpits with the webbing? or are there more specifics to it? Can y'all link the video where you describe and demonstrate setting that up initially?
