Red Faced Conures are a type of parrot. A Macaw would be a bigger version of it for example A Blue and Gold Macaw (i own one) acts exactly the same as this parrot but is double the size. Correct me if I’m wrong too.

Kid Adventures A small parrot is easy to take care of you’ll just need a large cage, many toys, and healthy foods parrots can eat. And when you have free time take them out of the cage and play with them as they will stress if they are in their cage for too long. Unless you have just the time to get home and do nothing except eat and sleep then I don’t suggest a parrot.

Nothing Silly about them. They did the right thing by bringing the Bird back so he could be matched with someone he likes. It was the Bird's Choice who he wanted to be with. Now he's Happy. _Image if they were silly & kept the Bird anyway. That would have been Torture on the little guy._

I've also been dead three times, each for over 10 minutes (it was in hospital due to a heart condition) and I've seen what's out there and it sure wasn't anything biblical. @@theendergamer3194 They do grow back as long as the follicles are unharmed so birds plucking for like 3 molts will be fine. In his case he's probably been plucking way longer so that's why they might not regrow.

yeh but sadly a lot of birds that pluck badly damage their feather cuticles, so the feathers will never grow back again, even though they no longer pluck :( (and in those cases if the bird remains in a horrible situation with no feathers left to pluck, it will normally start self mutilating by biting into it's own skin, feet etc :'(( so this bird is recovered, since there's no bleeding wounds etc)

Singing to my very anxious and scared rescued lovebird while in the cage is how he started to trust me and become tame. Now, over 6 years later, I sing his song each day before bedtime and we dance and sing throughout the day. It takes time and effort, but rescuing a parrot is such a rewarding experience.

🦜 glad you love your bird. I’m a vet asst. FYI. You should try an all aluminum cage, because galvanized steel like yours, can get a white rusty powder, in between the cage rungs and bars, and that causes heavy metal poisoning in tropical birds. Some bells, and metallic paint on bird toys can cause it, too. Some other things to watch out for: Teflon coated cooking pans, when cooking food at high heat, causes fumes which is dangerous to birds, keep their quarters out of the kitchen. Also any chemicals, like nail polish, polish remover, glass cleaner. Spores in the air, or in bird food. They’re very sensitive. Really sweet bird! 💕

I inherited my parents parrot, he was the exact same bird, his name was Fritz, and he was also stressed, his nick name was shake and bake, anyway his feathers did not grow back but he knew he was loved and lived to be 49 years old, really loved the little guy, ty for sharing!!

@TMoD7007 It was probably the kind of damage done from the plucking that could do that. If they molt, that's different, but pulling sheaths out of the follicles can make them not grow back.

I have owned conures, and although mine didn’t feather pull, apparently sometimes they can be plucked enough times that they don’t grow back (like some human eyebrows). Also, although it can be a sign of stress/neglect, sometimes the bird just does it and the owners never know why, despite good care and trying everything they can to stop it. As with most everything, more gray than black and white.

Skin picking is called excoriation, it is different from trichotillomania- but both are considered subsets of OCD. Usually people who exhibit one or both of these have other OCD symptoms- helpful once you are aware as then you can start catching yourself in the self-defeating habits/patterns and correct them.

My own pet Polish chicken just died a couple of says ago, leaving my grief stricken. Little Peep liked to perch in my head and shoulder every night, and actually slept under the covers on cold nights with my chihuahua and I. He was feisty, funny, loved, and I miss him a lot RIP, Little Peep

That was our Merlin, abused and abandoned found only days before he would have started eating himself. We adopted him and slowly won him over, mu sister nicknamed him "plucked chicken". Because he had damaged his ability to grow feathers on his body we built him a condo with a loaft, filled it with soft blankets and lambs wool toys so he could snuggle and be warm. After 14 years cancer took him from us, but he had a great life of being spoiled during those years. I still cry thinking of him still 4 years later. I miss all the birds I have rescued and gave great spoiled lives after such hardship that they had for so long before. I feed all my birds a proper diet of freash fruits, vegigies and treats once and awhile. I have a very bird proof house and tend not to close the door on my birds cages so they can inter act with each other or not or with the cats that are afraid of them, to keep in contact with us when they want and sometimes they will sleep with us in bed too.

That's awesome. I know he has likely lost a few years off his life due to all the stress, but with this family, he has a chance at a great life. Just remember folks, before you decide to get a bird as a pet, the larger ones will likely outlast you and you need to consider who you will name as their care-taker when your gone, and be sure that the person gets to know the bird and spends time with them well before the time comes for the bird to move to their new home. Large birds, an some smaller ones, have a longer life expectancy than the average human.

Never let a bite anger you! Birds do it for a reason and we just have to figure out why. It just takes being attentive to their needs and understand their personalities. Some bite for what seems to be for no reason, so you just have to suck it up and not show emotion. I love birds and have had them for years. They certainly aren't for everyone tho.

I had an parrot that my father brought home, when he arrived he was just like this, no feathers, we had him in family for 8 years, and in these years he got better, he was never in the cage, only to sleep. I remember my father taking him to the vet and saying that he was never be 100% if he still with us, so we decided to give him to an elderly couple that had an parrot already, they lived in an mature area. So he could be happy, free and have two people that would love him just like we loved him. I still miss him, don't know if he's alright, alive... but I hope so, he was just 9 years old. I will always remember him and love him. Sorry if I wrote anything wrong, english is not my first language

I'm pretty sure most birds like cockatoos, cockatiels, etc would much prefer to have some connection with humans as in feeling loved, and a strong bond, not leaving them somewhere's they might not be in a environment they are comfortable with. Birds aren't just typical creatures that will like you no matter what, they seek for attention and you should give it to them, unlike mistreating them in any way.

Mxya... no offense, but you do not know what you're talking about. I've worked for a veterinarian for exotic birds as well as rescued abandoned, abused birds. Birds love socializing. They socialize with other birds. They do not prefer humans... that is your selfishness. They need to be in their natural habitat, foraging. Flying free, preening each other, bonding with other birds... that's what is natural to them. It's what drives them. Sticking them in a cage, being played with by humans is not something they'd rather do. It goes against their DNA. It's common sense. It would be the equivalent of asking the bird to be more like humans when they just want to be birds.
