I dropped the fuel tank on my 85 C20 Suburban and changed the sending unit and cleaned it out. It actually went really well. The fuel gauge doesn't come off of the E line for like 5 gallons.. but it's a 34 gallon fuel tank so y'know. 😂

Back around 1975 i bought a 73 Grand Prix and was told by the salesman it had a 350. A few days later some guy in a Nova 454 kept running up on my bumper until i floored it and we got into it right there. I was shocked at the power of my '350' engine. I left the guy in my dust. So right then and there i pulled over and popped the hood. The stickers all said it was actually a 400. Still couldn't understand how a 400 would have dusted a Nova 454 SS. I also noticed i was getting about 8-10 mpg! So i took it to a shop to see if they could figure it out. I left it at the shop and a friend picked me up and took me to work. That evening after work he dropped me off to pick up my car and what the mechanic told me made it all clear. It wasn't a 350 or a 400. Someone before me had changed the engine out and put a high performance 455 in it. Also it had been built and dyno tested at 532 Horses at 4200 rpm. I loved that car but ended up selling it and buying a Toyota for gas mileage. So your car brings back fond memories of a better time and place for me and my musclecars. Mine was burgandy with white vinyl top. It was a beauty. I have owned 128 musclecars in my 70+ years including two Dodge Vipers, a lot of Chevelle SS models, Mustangs etc... but i think of my 73 Grand Prix a lot. Luxury with bestial power.

FWIW on one of these revivals, put a little of the old gas on a piece of bare metal. Let it evaporate. If you can drag your finger across the residue left behind and it doesn't stick or feel tacky, you can run it through and it won't stick the valves or carb

Is it just me or are these videos getting to be more fun to watch lately? I also like the fact that he's working on vehicles that I would have bought myself, rather than just square bodies and old 4 door Chevy's that I'd never own. GM rotors in the mid 70s had groves around the center to help evacuate brake dust and cool the rotor. Didn't work but they tried. Also, that limp fuel line is what ethanol does to old style fuel lines.

I had a quadrajet float that did swell from fuel with etanol so it got stuck and flooded the hell out of the carb. But every time i disassembled the carb it had evaporated so the float had shrunk again... Last time it happened before i found the problem i had to drive 300 miles and left foot brake in a constantly flooded big block Buick with a caravan behind 😅

The t-tops made in the 1970s gms are an aftermarket factory option installed by hurst. This was due to the success of the smokey and the bandit movie. Its likely hurst has replacement glass that is the same size even if the trim is different.

I had a really clean, straight, well cared for '73 GP SJ once at a time in my life I could not keep it. It needed an engine, and the idiot I traded it to was a mechanic I had worked with who needed a car. Apparently, he was also a tweeker and he sold it to the pick a part for another day of his own misery. Seeing that one in the wrecking yard made me feel a little sick inside.

Wow, this brings back memories. I had a 76 in gray with a 350. My wife a 2 tone brown 77 with a 403 Olds. I got rid of the 76 in 1991, the 77 in 2021. It was full of contradictions The sheer size of everything, the hood so long you could strap a full size matress onto it but it lacked any kind of "go". The trunk could fit 3 people but the huge spare tire in the middle of the trunk floor ate up tons of space. Boy did I love it, and hate it.

If you have to deal with crappy fuel systems, try buying a couple 80's Ford Aerostar fuel filters instead of the clear ones. They are the size of an oil filter and have a HUGE amount of filtering area available vs the clear Amazon ones. They won't help with a plugged fuel sock, but if you can get fuel to it, it should get you home.

Lovin' the '76 Pontiac Grand Prix content. I use to own a '77 Grand Prix way back in the day, '84 to '87. Had the power moon roof, black with a black velour bench seat interior with fold down arm rest. So comfortable to drive, was an LJ with a 400/400 drivetrain, loved the sound with the flipped air cleaner lid.(why haven't you tried that yet?) LOL

I was 17 or 18 and seen a car just like this for sale at a car lot, same year same color. I wanted that car so bad, I dreamed about cruising around in it on the strip. Sadly i just couldn't come up with enough down payment i needed at the bank to buy it before it got sold... i was so disappointed. Later on i ended up with a 72 Olds cutlass for less than half the price and it was a decent ride so i ended up redeemed. Still though, my first choice was the grand pre, and back then it was cool ride to have, turned many heads.

I OWNED ONE OF THESE BOAT ACHORS....IT LOVED THE WINTER TIME SNOW DRIVES.....Nobody thought that it could work, pulling people out of snow drifts, ditches, and tree rows......but it did.....I RAN IT DRY(NO OIL,ANTIFREESE,PS FLUID ETC....) Those tires that were fighting you, I have a suggestion. If you're not keeping the tires and you plan on junking them, take a pneumatic end cutter and cut the bead. If you're careful it can easily be done without damaging the rim. Main thing though is you have to take a tire spoon and get part of the bead outside the rim at least somewhat or else you won't be able to reach things too well. (something to keep in mind for the future)

Heh. I never thought of doing it on a car tire, but I've cut motorcycle tires off by using a sabersaw and cutting the sidewall all the way around on both sides. Once the carcass falls away, you can just shake the beadrings off the rim. Probably be good to break the beads first, though. 😊

Rallye 2's are my favorite gm steel wheel, I've had them on a 68 firebird, 70 lemans, 73 formula, 77 firebird, 79 firebird and a 68 Malibu, all the same set, 15x8's that came on the 800$ 77 firebird i bought in 1990, wrapped poor thing around a large bush, i.e. tree two weeks after i bought it, pulled the sbc and trans and rims and scrapped it for 125$

I used to have a '74 Grand Prix. White with a white vinyl top and sort of a maroon interior. Had a red pinstripe along the beltline, no T tops, and standard silver/grey Pontiac Rally II wheels. Sure would be cool to have a car like that again. Cars from that time were SO easy to work on.

In the early '80s, I was working as a lead line mechanic for a used car rental company. The bane of my existence was an AMC Hornet with a straight 6 that had a bad habit of dropping dead for, apparently, no good reason whatsoever. Then, after a few minutes rest, it might run fine for10 or 3 or 40 miles before repeating the process all over again. So... rebuilt the carb, replaced the fuel pump, filters, blew out the fuel lines, coil, plugs and wires etc. Didn't help the problem a bit, but, boy howdy did the beast run fine when it did run. Finally, it occurred to me that there could only be one thing left that could, possibly, be happening that would fit the bill. I jacked it up and removed the rubber fuel line at the metal fitting on the tank and, sure enough, when it had been assembled, they had jammed the hose on and it grooved the hose so that a long, thin, flap of rubber would slip forward under full throttle, shutting off the flow until the engine starved and shut down. Then, it would relax back into it's normal shape until the next time. It was infuriating to know how much time and effort, money and knuckles it took to diagnose a sixty cent (at the time) piece of rubber hose being the cause of all that trouble. I took it out for a test ride and didn't come back for an hour. When I did, I threw tossed the keys in the "ready to go" box and went back to work on some other ones. I told the boss that if it broke down on anyone else like it had been, I would buy it and torch it. He never had another complaint on it while I worked there.

My old Pontiac, first fuel pump was all gumed up. The second one had striped threads in the Block were it bolted up. It all works now, no hesitations in a week. Thats one kool ride, dig the T tops.

Old cars were solid, i had a Fiat 125 Sports and i ran into a concrete pylon, only had minor denting to the car but took a huge chunk out of the pylon and mechanically it wasn't great but it kept going despiute being decades old.

Dalton, You inspired me to get busy and change the ball joints, tie Rod ends, brakes, oil and filter, and charge the AC on my 2007 GMC Yukon XL. Now its ready for vacation. anybody that says doing all that is easy is either a ASE mechanic with a well stocked shop, and a lift, or a crack addict. It is not easy but it can be done in 4-5 hours or less.

I've been using those connectors for about a year now and they are great. In upstate ny where i am everything is difficult on any vehicle more than 3 years old. Simple jobs turn into replacement bushings and bolts since they have become 1, ive only had the luxury of brake lines coming lose a few times . Usually replacing lines is the name of the game and also i don't know anything about rotors so bad that they have had a meeting with the angle grinder and some new pads . I just heard some stories or something i surely didn't do anything like that several times

Good mechanics.. ya’ll are doing a good job finding all the old wore out parts.. this is a great car from the past , I drove a ‘73 Grand Prix just like this one for 22 years .. and it was basically trouble free I drove my Grand Prix very hard after drinking lots of beer and laying miles of rubber and out run the law a couple of times with my car .. I had a saying back then .. this car comes alive at 95 mph .. and after that it would do 120 plus .. My thoughts after restoring cars for 50 plus years is always start with a new fuel tank and all parts related to the fuel system.Also of note my G.P. had a points distributor and once a year I would put in a new set .. last year for points .. you have a very legendary car .. 5:42 without a doubt, if anyone is using solder ferrules, you should have a deflector! And loop and hook method prior to shrinking down. And always always make sure you’re solder is melted all the way around

I believe a lot of GM rotors had that groove intentionally.

Pretty sure the first few years after gm introduced disc brakes, they all had that groove.

if I remember right they were called delco Moraine and the groove was actaully a wear indecater when rotor was even with groove it was time to replace the rotors. Im thinking it was a late 60s early 70s style

That groove is so the rivets don't drag
