Ohio is the promised land. For whatever reason, Charlie always seems to score amazing deals on project arcade cabinets in Ohio. This latest score was part of a raiding expedition spanning the entire Buckeye State, and this particular machine had a truly worldwide origin story: the game was developed in Japan, it was put into a cabinet manufactured in Europe, and finally exported to North America for play on location in a public arcade.

I'm a frequent at Arcade Legacy, that dead mall location was really rad, something about a thriving arcade in that kind of 2000s urban decay really hit just right. They've really grown into their new spot down the road. Glad to see that the machines they offloaded went to great homes, love the channel man, this was super cool to see!

I'd like to know more about that cocktail table Do! Run Run. I've only seen one upright cab Do! Run Run, it was at Jupiter And Beyond gameroom in Corryville in Cincinnati, Ohio. I played it there, and I have the roms in MAME. Kangaroo was also at the same gameroom, which I played.

That's a sync issue at 27:07. You need to flip the DIP switches on the TPG to get the correct sync. Here's me doing it in my video with my Millipede (Matsushita monitor too). kzbin.info/www/bejne/nZm8qKqtgqmSitE

Thanks! Do you remember the specific TPG dip switch settings you used? I've been using 1-3 ON, 4-5 OFF, 6-8 ON... but I just looked at the TPG manual again and ON-ON-ON isn't a valid setting for 6-8. I also tried ON-OFF-ON for 6-8 and that didn't seem to make a difference though.

I have a new version of the older large TPG with the LED light before they made it smaller. Circa 2019

Just do a binary sequence so you don't miss all the combinations. 00000, 00001, 00010, 00011 etc.

The sync you don't have is HORIZONTAL. You need to adjust the HORIZONTAL hold. Remember the monitor is flipped 90-degrees.

Thanks! I did eventually find the horizontal hold pot, but adjusting it didn’t affect the image at all.

@@overtimearcade Either something in the horizonal circuit is bad (including, or just the pot itself), or weird things are happening. Only have seen the later happen once before. Simple to remember that if the image is rolling, it's vertical. If it's diagonal distortion, horizontal.

You got the scraps of the old Arcade Legacy location in the Cincinnati Mall. I had a few arcade games in there over the years. Biggest red flag on that cabinet is the Walton name on the back. Anyone in Cincinnati that ever bought an arcade game from Walton's doesn't have one positive thing to say about them. They are the shadiest of game retailers. Good luck with the rebuild. I'm sure you'll do a better job than them.

Great question! I don't think NTSC/PAL really applied to arcade monitors, which used (raw?) RGB. I don't think this monitor is original to the cabinet though, as the non-standard video signal inputs on the chassis don't match the standard video connector on the wiring harness, and it's got Xevious burn.

This was a conversion done in the field though, so who knows what the operator was thinking when they did it. Especially JAMMA harnesses can have all kinds of wiring colors.

Full hazmat suit! 😂 I do think it's important for the chassis to be grounded though, especially if the monitor is in unknown working condition. It'll usually work fine without it, but if something goes wrong and an improper charge gets built up, your hand might provide a discharge path to ground!

That was 30 years ago. Nobody thought this stuff would be worth anything 30 years later. It says something for the value of CURRENT GEN games when many people would rather collect and buy games (let alone original cabinets) from the 1980s and 1990s! I don't have the room for this stuff and frankly I don't want to pay the electric bill you guys have for your arcade man caves. That would be another deal killer for me!
