Mr. Kes is such an amazing creature, taking on a role that he wasn't made for to make sure his chicks survive. I'll always wonder where Ms. Kes went, honestly I fear the worst but nature is unpredictable. Mr Kes is truly amazing considering Mrs Kes left. She may have fallen victim to a predator. Nature can be cruel at times. Sometimes human intervention is necessary to ensure that birds such as kestrels survive.
@hanniaedithmartinezadame7942 жыл бұрын
It's rare that this specie actually have sexual differences. Normally same behavior makes the genders to be the same, and it will be better if both of them do the 2 roles, like other species of bird of pray. At the end everything is random and evolution don't look for perfection but "just works". Nature isn't perfect. Mr. Kes it's amazing

No. Robert is NOT trying to be a father, he doesn’t want that bond as they are better raised in the wild. He is more of a short term ‘feeder’ as even he said he wants as little to do with them as possible to avoid that. Stop putting your own sh!t prejudices and jumping on anything to make yourself feel morally superior. Jerks. Watch out, your own ‘tolerance’ is showing.
@joebamabiden13252 жыл бұрын
@@chickenlittle5095 no one said anything about Robert being the second dad… we are talking about homosexual kestrels lol please calm down. nobody is being ‘pre judiced’, nobody is being a ‘j*rk’ and nobody is wanting to seem ‘morally superior’ as you are ac cusing us of. No idea how you manage to react so vioIentIy to a simple statement that kestrels can mate in male to male pairs much like many other bird species

Rob, it was heart wrenching to loose Mrs Kes 😢just after her six chicks had hatched 🐣. Mr Kes with your help honoured her by raising her babies to fledging, what super dad he is. Such a happy ending to a sad beginning. I still laugh every time I watch Mr Kes calling for a new mate & all the babies zoom in, “ok dad we’re here, what’s up?” The surprised look on his face was hilarious I felt he was saying “oh come on, you’re cramping my style, I’m an empty nester now, so go away & live your life”. ❤ 🥰🇦🇺

One year we had a kestrel nest in our pine tree. It was glorious to see the parents come and go. Less glorious being woken up at regular hours during the night with the chicks shouting to be fed! But it's an experience many don't get and I know how hard Robert worked being the extra parent. A fabulous video about one of our beautiful birds we should treasure.

The contrast between those chick that have had human contact and those who have not is fascinating. The fear exhibited by those without the human contact is so evident (at 4:35); and those with human contact are just taking it in their stride...maybe confused. Beautiful and amazing work by all those involved.

Astounding that Mr. Kes was able to rise above his instincts and realize that without Mrs. Kes around to tear up and feed his chicks the prey he brought in they would not be able to eat and die, and actually learned to take on the job he had seen his mate do! I don't know how common or rare that kind of learning is in birds outside of the Corvids, but I bet it's previously near-unknown among kestrels and other birds of prey with defined roles!
