I’ve been watching the Kestral’s journey with mixed emotions. It was amazing to watch Mr Kes stepping up to the female role. He tried really hard but it’s a good job you were there to nurture the little ones & to supplement the feeding of all of them. I’m so invested in their plight now - I can’t go to bed until I’ve watched all their progress. Thanks again. ❤️

I can't get over how much they look like Sam the Eagle before they grow their flight feathers in! And their expressions when he's feeding them is too much. "Eek! A giant hand out the back of the nest! Every bird for themselves --oh, is that meat? Don't mind if I do. Now back to screaming. Aaaah!"
@tylerforehand2983 Жыл бұрын
🤣 I know right? Fortunately this was a good sign, there much older now and more aware of the concept of stranger danger- their fight or flight instincts are now more finely tuned. They'd rather put a fuss and assume it's dangerous than risk injury. But if it just happens to not be a threat than they got a meal out of it.Before, they were too young and too weak to care where the food came from, just as long as they got to eat was all that mattered. And the fact that these little guys could've easily died makes they're antics more endearing, IMAO.

Also congratulations to Mr Fuller to helping out while also assuring these chicks remained as wild as possible so they will still be able to learn the necessary skills from Mr. Kes after leaving the nest. The chicks long term survival depends on the valuable skills acquired from the parents after fledging.

Mr Kes best dad 🏆 with help from uncle REF of course. Was wonderful to see him figure out how to feed those little ones. Mrs Kes was a fierce defender of nest , eggs and chicks . She had many a tense moment with other birds. She was likely injured or sick sadly , had run ins with a Red Kite and Tawny the days before. She would never just abandon them 😢 Nature perseveres and they all made it despite the difficult start ❤
@baddnurse5443 Жыл бұрын

@@HTFWSFWWE More likely injured, as she had run ins with the red kite and tawny, she wasn’t acting herself for 2 days , clumsy and disoriented
@eagles_s Жыл бұрын
@@HTFWSFWWE Heres how this works, theyre wild birds. Its not uncommon for them to die during or shortly after brooding cause it takes alot of energy and they: A) Are constantly hunting which uses up a ton of energy B) Are aggressive when breeding and raising young which leads to “confrontations”. Theres other factors too. Weve seen 2 female kestrels die on the nest out of 2 female kestrels. So ya not unusual. Btw, how many kestrel nests have tou watched where you can make a judgement about what is normal or unusual? I saw one in israel where 2 females were fighting to kill cause one female entered the others nest. They fought for about 15 minutes till someone went and broke them up. But my biggest issue is the whole “abandonment” thing. Abandonment is a willful, intentional act. By a human. Animals dont have the ability to make rational intentional decisions like that. Their behavior is influnced by instinct and their environment. They dont make ethical or logical decisions. My “interpertation” of her behavior is that some other bird was getting too close to her nest and she was guarding it and probaly ended up fighting it. Whatever the case its irrelevant because, as I stated, these are wild birds and their inner workings are not fully understood by humans. Theyre creatures of instinct. Every raptor nest ive followed has had at least one family member die. This is the reality of wildlife. If it helps you sleep at night maybe you shouldnt watch these streams

Although the loss of Ms. Kes is felt, our hearts are filled with joy and hope in Mr. Kes' unbelievable character to provide and feed prey to his six chicks nonstop. There is NO doubt that many or all would've have perished, especially adorable #6, if you'd not intervened. To keep them as wild as you did, to watch them prosper with hand feedings and full pantry, to see Mr. Kes feed his babies, it's one of the most emotional, memorable films of education, advocacy and true compassion. It reminds me of the Luna/Bomber foster chicks' story. Jean and you have a true vision as one just see's your joy and pride at the ringing. It's exceptional edited film with deep emotional connects.
