I'm glad the little one was able to go back to the nest without any issues. I will admit I was a little worried the Mother was going to start attacking, which is understandable being that close to her nest and chick even though the other was being returned. I agree probably surprised there is another mouth to feed but for all we know happy since the baby she thought was gone came back.

We live in a very dense urban area but have a gorgeous American kestrel (and a fledgling/young one I believe) that have taken up sentry on a chimney on the building just behind our flat for the last couple of months. It's been such a treat to watch!

Fantastic job all. Great to see. But Lawrie, please check with your local fire brigade and see if they'll teach you how to carry and use a ladder. It's a skill that has to be taught. I'd hate to see anybody get hurt.

Thanks so much! Kestrels are highly territorial birds so the chance of another nest being so close is very, very small, but we always monitor just in case :)

Of course they are neatly avoiding the possibility that the chick was pushed out of the nest by other chick or parent making hard and fast survival decisions that may not have been remedied by its return! It's a tough world and tough lady survival can sometimes make grim choices. A ton of the orphan we witness online are parental abandon and rejection, just saying
