Trailmater Offroad Recovery

Trailmater Offroad Recovery

Күн бұрын

We got a call from a gentleman with a broken truck stuck in Canyonlands on the Elephant Hill Trail. Apparently the steering linkage had broken and needed welded because it was custom made and not factory, so taking in parts wasn't an option. So we loaded up Wile E and the buggy. Since this was a welding job and wouldn't require the wrecker we decided to not take it since we usually have to bypass the Squeeze obstacle when we take Trailmater. So that saved us time and disrupting traffic going the wrong way on the one way. Once to the vehicle we seen it was a Dodge Dakota with all Ford Bronco running gear. The custom steering linkage broke at the splice. So we remover the whole setup to make access easier. Then we beveled the parts and welded them back together with our new Bun Trail Welder that works in conjunction with the Premier Power Welder. Super handy and works great. After the weld cooled we reinstalled everything and the customer was able to drive the rig out and continue on his trip. Thank you everyone for watching and supporting us.

Too bad Rory doesn’t have a way to bring a real MIG welder out on the trail. It wouldn’t be as fussy as the flux core. But the flux core spool gun is probably better than a stick weld. Thanks for showing us an application of a spool gun that I’ve never seen before. I have an ESAB spool gun but I’ve only ever used it on aluminum with argon shield gas.

Great landscape shots on this one, Mike. Given the number of times I have watched you use the "Big Hammer Method" of tie rod end removal on the trail, perhaps a kit with a pitman arm puller and a tie rod end puller might be in order. You don't always have room to swing the hammer, and there is the risk of further damage from the hammer hitting Mike's fingers.
