In today's video, I'll be rescuing a forgotten 1988 Chevrolet Camaro IROC-Z Convertible and giving it the first cleaning it's had in at least 15 years (probably longer than that)! I'm pre-planning future content once I finish up several other builds and this car is part of those plans! I will not be doing any kind of mechanical work on this car in the near future as I have several other things I have to get through first so consider this a "teaser" of what's to come! What I'm really excited about, aside from it being a convertible, are the possibilities this car will offer for future video content. This video will focus on detailing! Obviously, the car is in pretty poor shape and of course doesn't run at the moment, but just wait till you see the DRAMATIC transformation from before to after!

I seriously can't believe how good that car looks after the detail...night and day! I use to love detailing my vehicles, but I have spinal stenosis thanks to decades of manual labor, so I can't do it anymore :( Excellent work!

My first car was a 91 RS red on red with t-tops. It had a 305 in it. It wasn't fast, but I had so much fun in it. I'll always love these cars. It's cool to see a video about one.

You did a great job cleaning up this camaro. But I sure this is a iroc z, as the rear tail lights are not right for a iroc. It may be a rs car. Look for the wonder bar in the front and see what size the sway bars or. I.want to see you do more work on this car.

The wheel swap transformed it. I think ASC did the convertible top conversion...always wondered how it was done but in this vid you can see how they basically capped off the rear after cutting along the top of the quarter panel. Lots of mods to the windshield header too. I think after years of mouse piss I'd just throw the interior soft stuff away and look for a carpet kit and seat foam and upholstery, if available for this gen

Cleaned up pretty good. My 1992 RS has the same engine. The Monte Carlo wheels don't look bad either. I would've had to hack off those awful tailpipes though, but I'm sure you have something different in mind for the future. I have the Borla exhaust on my Camaro that has the four small tips.

I was a professional detailer for years and I have never seen anyone use a tornador to clean carpets and upholstery before, but it did a damn good job. Even to this day I have a Sandia heated carpet extractor.

Just picked up a 92 z28…. But this one here… really nice. Fender/doors lines are nice and straight, rocker panels and bumper have no cracks… this is a really nice find. 💯

You should put the factory iroc tail lights back on the car, those are from a RS. The car looks great!

Not even RS. Base Camaro tailights. RS had the black center stripe. Like the Z-28s before 1985.

@@jeffreyshepherd8488 I agree. The seats look awfully lower level. Not even GM looking. Possibly reupholstered. Certainly not something I have ever seen in the highest trim level Z-28. (The IROC-Z)

@russelllamb5533 he said it was resprayed, would not be hard to add iroc badges at that time. The one on the dash would be harder though. Missing the pin strip above the rocker molding.

I have currently started on my 87 Z28 convertible, however my is basically a basket case of mismatch parts where someone had stated a restoration and didn't know anything about these cars. Hawks motorsports makes 85-87 and 88-90 replica iroc wheels 17” you can get grey / chrome or gold… since this is a 88’ he should get the 88-90’s for it in gold 😊

I have been finding my '88 IROC in my garage every day for the last 36yrs🙂 LB9, 5spd, t-tops. I have kept it essentially stock and it continues to be a fun car to drive. Wrong wheels, no door decals, no lower body striping, etc (may be because of repaint)--probably not an IROC and they just slapped a few badges on it.

I have a 89 firebird formula. Had to laugh I put that exact radio in mine in 98. That paint is also single stage Maaco probably late 90s early 2k. (I also had a maaco spray in the late 90s and can recognize the overspray) My guess it was done up in the late 90s and then parked in and around 2005. My 89 firebird I LS swapped, converted to a manual T56. All gauges work, AC, everything. If you decide to LS swap it it's pretty straightforward. My car was the 305 L03TBI/700r4 originally also. Hawks has the repop wheels in 17 inch.
