In England an 80's car in that condition would be considered pretty good. I would personally go for a recommission of it and have an usable Iroc. Just do what is necessary to get it through the next year or two.

Both needed work and I never got around to doing it. My first new Camaro was an '84 Z28, I ordered it new in '83. It had the 5.0 H.O., 5 speed, 4 wheel discs. The next was an '85 IROC Z, ordered in February 1985. It was a 5.0 TPI, auto, t-top, 4 wheel disc car. I bought an '87 5.7 TPI, 4 wheel disc car in '06 as a 2nd car.

As the owner of a Thirdgen I can tell you it's a love hate relationship with rust. Personally I'd love to have the car because mine is a t-top and I'm sick when it comes to buying rusty cars. Most people run from them but I don't. I know, I need help. I think it'd be cool to fix it up and go full resto-mod/street mod. No need to repair it back to stock. Weld in sheet metal patches, swap exterior panels, get your favorite playlist burned to CD or tape, and cruise in style. That car would look epically awesome sitting in a photo with mine. It's not THAT bad. I've saved far worse. I live in Western PA and on a quiet night you can hear the cars rust here. I have an '87 V6 T-top Camaro that was actually the exact car I had in high school that I accidentally found again a year and a half ago. It had a (rather poor) repaint at some point that I think may have slowed down the tin worm a bit. It has some floor issues like yours, but definitely salvageable. The tired (but will still smoke the right rear tire off) 2.8 leaks so much oil (also probably helped it from rusting more) that it leaves a smoke screen and a trail wherever it goes, so I'm about to swap it out for a 305 TPI (because it was cheap). SAVE THAT IROC! Such cool cars. Great video!

My first car was an 86 IROC. I miss it dearly. To answer some things, I heard the electric pull down on the hatch was to keep people from slamming it which can cause the glass to break. The front and rear wheels have different offsets. Shame it's so rusty! I had an '85 without the power pull down. If the doors were closed and windows up there was too much air pressure in the cabin when the hatch was closed, so it wouldn't latch half of the time without slamming it. The pull down was added to address this issue.

My first car was an 85 V6. I toasted the engine in a year and a half because I could have sworn I was a formula 1 driver. Funny story in that car. I raced a kid I knew down our local quarter mile spot who had a RS with a 305. I was sure I was gonna lose, but I didn't. Got him by a fender. We pulled over and he wanted to go again because "he had his headers shut off." There was clearly something wrong with that kid and that car.

The mid 80's IROC Z28 Camaro is by far my personal favorite car. Never got to own one but knew a few that did. I really like the body lines and the body style. Sure hope you can restore this one back to its formal glory without sinking too much into it. This one looks straight. However, the rusting is a huge issue.

I have that exact Chevy Matchbox car here in the UK. Got it when I was a kid probably circa 1987 too. Only got the box of cars down from the loft recently for my girls to play with. As for the car, I would part it out, but I'd like to see a video of getting the engine running and seeing if any of that vintage security stuff is still working.... And just as I type the above you say your gonna get the engine running. Excellent

I love your videos. Never use the rocker panels to lift a 3rd gen Camaro/Firebird. Use the frame instead. The front fenders lower mounting brackets are always smashed because people put the floor jack there. I see you did that in the video so take a look at those brackets.....I bet those are bent and smashed up to the floor I believe the complete floor and structure is the same on Camaro and Firebird. They went down the same assembly line when they where built. Save it if you can. These 80s classics are rare these days! I love my 88 Gta.

Not really, since a stand up guy wouldn't advertise a car as rust free and conveniently miss a huge rust hole in the door, rotten out fenders, and cancer also on the quarter panels. No way he missed all that. You'd have to be Ray Charles blind to not see it. I wouldn't have negotiated. Living in the rust belt (Minnesota) gives you a slightly different perspective on the pervasiveness of the decay. It is in every single area of the vehicle. Rot is hard to overcome when it is this deep. Get it running and part it out. It would be hard to watch a ton of money get sunk into this particular example of an IROC.

From what I've seen, it's going to cost 8 to 9K to replace the rotted out floor pans. And another 2 to 3K just to get it mechanically sound with today's prices. Fuel tank will need dropped and cleaned and fuel pump replaced to get rid of varnish., All the brake lines are heavily rusted and would need to be replaced for safety sake., We don't know if the engine is any good or the transmission for that matter., All the brakes need done rotors, calipers, pads, hoses on the front, wheel cylinders, brake hardware and shoes on the back. And that's just to get it drivable safely. It's a good parts car and that's it.
