I don’t understand people, buying a bonsai but don’t read into the material. Like they buy it because it’s nice, and they are. But just give them water once in a while like plants in the home. I’m fairly new to bonsai. But I’ve learned allot in just a few months. Got almost a couple of dozens trees in training. Peters video’s help allot! Thank you

I was clapping my hands and cheering as you mentioned your famous moss trick. I am truly in you debt, sir! Had a very sick little calamansi who had survived near death twice when I tried your trick earlier this year. It's looking healthier then ever! No more rot or lost leaves, just strog growth. Find myself mixing in a little bit of sphagnum moss whenever I repot trees or sick plants now to ensure a good start. So thank you, many times over! Love from Sweden

I just repotted two 10 year old Deshojo maples that we’re very pot bound and had what appeared to be leaf rot from that. I removed them from the toil, teased the roots , cut off some dead roots and trimmed them. They have very thick trunks that had a rock under the root. I used compost, peat moss and microehizae root promoter to improve the roots. After I put some mulch on top. I know it was not the ideal time to do this but the trees were severely neglected. And I want to repot in a bonsai pot during spring or next year. I hope this doesn’t harm the tree and holy helps. I have some rocks and holes in the big pot for drainage.

The soil tip is completely true here where I am in South Africa the bonsai soils are like the finer dust of perlite and inorganic soil it absorbs water and it’s also well draining and that is to keep water in the soil but to the point where the hot sun would dry out the water in the soil by the end of the day (I would advise new people in the hobby to buy the bonsai soils supplied in local plants centers the soil would be almost engineered for best results for the climate area you live in)

Dear Sir, Thank you so much for all of your videos on bonsais. May I ask a question with regards to my azalea little bonsai? I'm taking good care of it, made sure to repot it last spring with light well drained soil, with rather more acidic ph, with special azalea and hortensia compost; I'm watering it carefully during these days (in Geneva Switzerland) hot days (up to 35°C peaks). But unfortunately leaves started to get brown on the edge, and then totally brown, as if dry. I set my azalea in shade, and I keep daily "fog" it with spraying fresh water on the branches and leaves. I cut the edges of each branches. But it doesn't seem to get new leaves for already 2-3 weeks. I'm worried. I don't know what to do. Would it be possible to save my bonsai?
@minimusft
@minimusft 4 жыл бұрын
Im not peter but maybe i can help. With azalea these symptoms could also mean that it is being over watered. This is more often the case than it being too dry. Try to see if the soil is still wet on the underside of the pot and only water the plant when the soil is nearly dry. Good luck with your bonsai, hope it recovers!

Do/would you use peat free compost? Given the decline of our bogs in Ireland it's important to me to try to be more sustainable. I'm thinking of mixing a small amount of peat free with akadama and pumice (when I find it in stock again somewhere). As for the moss, have you considered trying to grow it yourself? Like the pumice it seems to be difficult to get before it sells out. Even in tropical pet suppliers!

I just realize my gecko's moss is from New Zealand. Maybe I will give him a bonsai! I'm forced to try this moss trick with my favorite hynoki cypress. If this tree dies I will cry harder than when any family member died. If I dont have a greenhouse can I put stakes in the ground and surround it in clear plastic?
@pansepot1490
@pansepot1490 4 жыл бұрын
Sure. Just take care to leave some opening for ventilation and check with a thermometer the temperature doesn’t get too hot in sunny days. Small greenhouses are tricky, you can easily boil plants to death if you are not careful. A lot depends on the conditions of your tree and your climate. Warm climates don’t need greenhouse, just keep it sheltered from wind and strong sun and well watered (ensuring excellent drainage of course).
