When I first learned of Games Workshop, it was back around 2000 during 3rd edition. I jumped right in the hobby along with my father and younger brother. I started with Ultramarines and Tyranids, my brother with Dark Eldar and Orks and my father went with Necrons and Sisters of Battle. Yeah, none of us could commit to one army. We liked variety and painting different models. In the end, I'm the only one who still hobbies to this day. As for nostalgia, I'd have to go with the Sisters. I played many games with my father; most of which ended with him thoroughly kicking my ass. (I was 15/16 at the time with no concept of tactics. Still don't, tbh.) So I look back at how well they played and the devotion he spent to painting them and learning their lore with a wistful smile on my face. I'm actually excited for when the new Sisters finally come out. I'll be painting a small detachment in his honor.

What a great story! Thank you for sharing that, having your family to paint and play with must have been a fantastic experience ( aside from everything else that comes with playing any game with family lol) I’m still trying to get my dad to build his train set and table. He was always been into model trains, always wanted to set up a board with real terrain, but alas, I am the only one who does hobby in my family.

Those colour change paints are so beautiful! A friend of mine who got me into 40k had the dark vengeance pack, and he would let me play dark angles as trade for painting his models. Every time I pick up a dark angle to paint (especially the bikes) it completely renewes my passion for the hobby ^_^

Tau. When I was 5 my dad bought me a white dwarf mag. It was around the time tau was first coming out so the magazine was filled with tau stuff. I thought it was the coolest thing I’d ever seen. I just started experimenting with Green Stuff World’s color shifting metallics on some second hand Eldar and I found Vallejo Gloss Black to work quite well as an undercoat. As you said in the video though, I learned the hard way in some spots to go really really slowly and build those layers nice and light. Great job with these old minis, I know a lot of folks are ditching them for the new hotness, but there’s still something charming about these older sculpts. My most nostalgic army is my first from late fourth edition 40K: Imperial Guard. Back then infantry squads and sentinels could deep strike in. It wasn’t the most powerful thing but it was fun. Right behind that for me was Dark Eldar.

Almost 20 years ago, when I came to know of Warhammer (both of them), the hobby and everything, - all I wanted for myself is a mounted Archaon mini. And that's all. I wanted to have it and I'd be happy for all the eternity. And to get it, for that time it was not a meager quest, being a poor student in post-90th Russia. Years slowly passed, I got my Archaon, got many more, got Citadel paints, all that nice stuff, made quite a few wargaming friends, painted my first minis, painted a lot more minis for friends, visited local and national events and have organized some; lived through WHFB editions from 5 to 8; sold my soul to Tzeentch; Warhammer: Online came and gone, gifting me the best Tzeentch paint scheme ever; almost completed my Mortal Chaos army by the time FB died; sold everything Warhammer related (save for some characters and heroes); have been really skeptical about AoS; found my old box of stashed characters and heroes; found this channel. Got my interest for painting re-kindled. Looking eager towards the AoS gaming, when found out that some of my old friends do play it now... Yeah. Sounds like a whole life to me. Still haven't painted my Archaon.

I've been playing since Second Edition. My most nostalgic army is my Dark Angels second company army. I had 40 land speeders, since they could be taken as troops back then in a Ravenwing Army. I still have all of them. fully metal and heavy enough to crush a foot if they fall. Thought about reviving them for a display piece at the FLGS as they were painted way back in the 90's and could definitely use a rescue.
@eBayMiniatureRescues5 жыл бұрын
That would make for a very epic army on the table, you should definitely fix those up and put them on display, most people walking into a game store have no idea things like that even exist anymore!

My first miniatures were the original lead Deathwing Terminator squad. Then a few random Inquisitor Terminators, then a couple of Chaos Terminators. We were very limited 20+ years ago to what was available here in Australia when it came to GW stuff, so when we did get it you needed to take out a loan to afford it. I ended up with a Space Marine army, along with a pair of Dreadnaughts and a Rhino converted into a Whirlwind. Also ended up with a full Eldar army from Adeptus Titanicus, along with the best Eldar titan model ever made. All lead/metal. Also have a boatload of plastic Genestealer models as well due to getting right into Spacehulk at the same time.

I´m still surprised that you use pure colors almost in each project. I mix in each color a little drop of the most dominating color, so all colors fit more together. This works pretty good for me. But you present me in almost each project you have done so far, that this is totally not necessary. I mean, those chaos space marines are almost pure metal, there is not much to mix in the greenstuffworld shift colour. Thats fine, this is an extraordinarily choice of colours and so a very special project. But in your other projects you dont mix colours very often. Always nice to see other artists at work and to compare my own techniques. I pretty much always like your results. Great job at this one! I definitely gonna try out that black oil wash. Looks handy to not destroy previous work.

It’s true I try to stick to out of the pot colors, mostly because I have so many that I can usually find what I’m looking for really quickly. @thefenrisianssweatshop5 жыл бұрын
It was 2nd ed that got me started in gaming. So I guess that boxes marines and orks were my first army projects. However it was wfb that set the hook deep. Chaos was the army and it took me years to complete. 3 in total. Now some 30 years later I’ve painted an entire 2000pts or so worth of wolves and the the damned thing just keeps on expanding. 🤣 but I don’t lash myself into any one thing or range now. And in that time I think I can safely say I’ve painted most if not something from every race In The Warhammer worlds. and more besides. I saw mention of space marine stances so wide 80s metal bands would be jealous, and that’s where it all started really. Bow legged, exaggerated Pose super soldiers. It was so different to anything then, and still is wonderfully unique to this day. And I must admit to scouring eBay many, many times for something to really cut my teeth in terms of building and as I’m sure you’ve found in doing your excellent videos, restorations. Currently awaiting the treatment are an original (tbc) Bjorn the fell handed dread, a 94 landspeeder and a squat medic. Although not an eBay find as such but a gift from a good mate.

just curious what you use to strip models down to primer? I have a giant ultrasonic to do vehicle (i kitbash ork stuff), but i currently use simple green heated to about 150 and run it for an hour. would this work if i just ran it longer, of does nothing bring off primer? Also, is there a trick to break down super glue? thanks and great content, you are like my jedi master and an ork kit bash guy!
@eBayMiniatureRescues2 жыл бұрын
The heat seems to help, 150 is probably more than enough too. I use LA's Totally Awesome, it works much better than Simple Green in my experience. Maybe switch to that and see if it will cut through that primer! The other option is to try something even stronger, just not in the sonic cleaner, like 99% isopropyl alcohol, let that soak for a bit, and then try the sonic cleaner to see if it will budge. I've also found that if you can get paint off down to the primer then it's usually alright to go over it with paint at that point, unless it's just overly thick or something, but generally primer stays thin regardless of who put it on. Just keep trying and see what happens, it should come off sooner or later :)

@@eBayMiniatureRescues Thank you for the feedback. I do agree about the primer usually being thin, so far all of them have been. I think next in the shoot for me is and airbrush. Time to do some research into that!

Phew, that was a minute ago!!! Reminds me of the early pc game that GW put out for WHFB on pc. I picked it up for $5 at a store in San Francisco when I was pretty young, came with a black orc figure, I thought it was amazing!

The 2 armies most primed for a comeback too :) new plastic sisters are very soon and the rumors are Bretonnia isn’t dead...still rumors, but we can always hope they are real!

I've been holding off collecting a new army for the plastic sisters for ages now! the metal ones had just been released when i started collecting white dwarf, they lost all their battle reports but i loved their aesthetic - serephim and immolators are just so cool!

Hey, can you recommend a good but cheap paint stripper maybe under $7
@MasonPeatross5 жыл бұрын
For acrylic paint use Simple Green, found at most hardware stores.
@eBayMiniatureRescues5 жыл бұрын
I use LAs Totally Awesome. I switched from simple green, partially because I find it gives better results, and it’s cheaper in the US, about the same everywhere else. In the US it’s $1 a bottle where Simple Green tends to be around $3.

Can I ask what chemicals you use and process to strip plastic models?

I’m using LAs Totally Awesome in a Sonic Jewelry Cleaner. Drop them in and 15 minutes later I clean them with a toothbrush. Very effective and quick way to strip minis.

What kind of paints do you use
@eBayMiniatureRescues5 жыл бұрын
Games workshop, Vallejo, army painter, p3...pretty much anything that’s made for models. They all have their strengths and weaknesses, but they are all good for minis. I also use a variety of inks and pigments.

What do you use to remove the old paint?
@eBayMiniatureRescues4 жыл бұрын
I like to use a concentrated cleaner called LAs Totally Awesome. It works really well if you let the models soak for a couple of days. I do prefer to use the same solution but in a sonic jewelry cleaner, then it only takes around 15minutes to an hour for the same result.
