While it’s true individuals can do what they want to get use out of their collections, I don’t see GW changing their practises any time soon. People have been calling them on their shitty behaviour for years, but the majority still support them so they can continue to get away with it unfortunately.

@eBayMiniatureRescues

Nothing in particular at the time, but I covered pretty much everything with normal paint after the speed paint went down. That being said, I have used speed paints quite a bit after and I have noticed that my bottle of red something or other I don't know the name, does get small cracks in it if it goes on too thick. Super super small cracks in a few places. Over ink that kind of makes sense, but I just assumed it was the one bottle that was messed up or something, none of the other colors I've used have done that. Has that been happening a lot?

I am not pro-GW, because I remember when they were awesome, and they've not been for around 15-20 years. That being said, I don't understand the anger over discontinuing armies and models. They sold you a complete product, and its one you can still play. I'm still playing 5th edition 40k, because I prefer it, and I have no problem getting games. You still own and can use the models. And they've done this for years. There are countless examples of units and armies full of units that were "retired" dating back to the 80's. Maybe I've just immune to the GW disappointment after years of it, but I'm still perplexed.
@eBayMiniatureRescues
@eBayMiniatureRescues 4 күн бұрын
I'm in the same boat, I still play older games and have lots of models that have been retired. I think most of us expect older models to retire at some point, and we are seeing new sculpts for some of the ones they announced, which is great, I'm all for updating models, it adds to the history of the company and the models they have produced. The issue is that some of the models they cut were just not that old. So now there are models that won't get new rules when newer stuff comes out and will not be great in the game they were made for, and any store owner that has stock of any of those models now has to sell them at a discount because realistically nobody will want them at msrp anymore since they aren't viable in games of newer editions that they also want people to buy and play. It just feels kinda crazy for a company to decide to do that to their audience, especially when historically when they get rid of stuff it's been for a good reason.

"Killing off a bunch of armies, not supporting them and removing them from the game." I can't think of anything more mis-informing than this statement lol. I normally love your videos but this one needs some fact checking my guy.

I guess I'm with you on this, frankly it killed the tone of an otherwise positive painting video. I have a hard rule about not gaming with folks who only express negativity about the hobby because I've found the gaming and fandom community around gaming have made a hell of their own choosing with the constant negativity.
@eBayMiniatureRescues
@eBayMiniatureRescues 4 күн бұрын
I see your point, but that quote is exactly what I'm talking about. They will continue to support the content as needed, which isn't very promising, and, not for much longer, and while I completely understand needing to cut super old models, there were a bunch that are just not that old. The Warcry cuts alone man, that game is not that old and those kits are still everywhere. I don't know about you, but that feels pretty bad. At the same time, my entire point is that none of us should put our eggs into one basket, and we should use our models regardless of the news, converting to fit new rules, or just playing other games like opr. I'm trying to see both sides of the coin, but it's hard when they hide everything and don't explain themselves very well.

I don’t know… I just wouldn’t play along with the press release language conflating the different things that are happening. Some old sculpts are being renewed with updated sculpts. Some of those are almost as old as I am, some of them are pretty new. That’s fine. They’re new takes on concepts and units and it’s a complete non issue (and always has been) to just keep using the old models. The incentive to buy is that they’ll look new and cool. That’s fair. That’s also something that literally no one is too upset about. But then they’re also returning units and whole armies from the game alongside their models. It’s hardly unprecedented to have units dropped, but it’s relatively rare, and removing whole armies is an extraordinary thing to do. Doing so to armies that were only introduced 6 years ago is crazy and inexcusable. And there’s very little silver lining. Some of the Stormcast can, if you squint, be proxied as units that are still around, but some hardly can (RIP ballista). Beasts of Chaos are just gone. I guess you’re going to have to use S2D rules ? CoS? That’s a whole other thing than just having your existing army consist of outdated minis with fewer details and less dynamic poses. There are still Liberators in the game. They’re called liberators, they look like liberators and have the same weapons as liberators. That’s not the case with Ungors or even the Evocators that were sold to new players in the starter set just three years ago. I sympathize with you trying to stay positive, but we don’t have to give hope where there is none. We know roughly what’s getting renewed with fresh models, and we know what’s been cut completely from the game. There’s no need to pretend we know less than we do. These are different things, and best thought of as separate things. They were announced at the same time. Presumably with the intention of conflating them. Heck, I’d start wondering about the future of models and units not in the massive culling article on warhammer community. Apparently the dreadblade harrows are a cavalry unit of two now, instead of a hero two-pack. Where does that leave the old hexwraiths cavalry unit that’s still a hold over from WFB. Probably gone by the time the battletome drops. Who’s willing to bet against CoS losing all elves and dwarves when that battletome comes around? My guess is that GW figures they got away with the End Times, and now they are trying to make it a regular occurrence.
@eBayMiniatureRescues
@eBayMiniatureRescues 4 күн бұрын
The reason I'm trying to remain positive is more aimed at how we will likely find a home for the models that were actually lost. The ballista is a good example, we know it's gone, and they won't be making a new one, but can that model be used for something else that still works. Like, if I buy a ballista off of eBay for, presumable, much less money, can it be used on the table still and count as something that is also, presumably, much more money now. Most of the rest of the models can be converted into something that will still be around. I am very ready to buy discount stormcast minis and make them work with whatever weapon options are available now. So I'm not trying to say they will be giving us more information that will be better news, but that as a hobby community we can figure something out. I agree with you though, gw probably thinks they got away with something during the end times and casually dropped this article on the community page like it was no big deal.

The miniature is why historical is so cost-effective. In most cases with infantry, cavalry and artillery, all that tends to change is basing. A unit remains viable even when changing rule systems. Also, with the addition of games like Weird War 2, some other elements can be added to your historical units.

If ever I played Skaven (and I do like them a bit)? I'd be all about the Rat Ogors, because those things look mean! Usually, I only use acetone to melt glue bonds on metal models, because I've never had luck using acetone to strip paint with in the past. I'll have to try it again some time.

I printed out some Rat Ogres from One Page Rules, they look pretty great, and there are new ones coming out from gw. It's an exciting time for new rats! Maybe its different paint and you need to try a different solvent. Try IPA or gasoline. Sometimes also just mineral oil can work really nicely. All of course only if your mini is metal!
@eBayMiniatureRescues
@eBayMiniatureRescues 4 күн бұрын
Actually sandblasting is not the worst option, Broadsword Wargaming did a video on that using plastic models and it looks pretty great, no damage. If acetone isn't cutting through then definitely, like others have said, try another solvent. Concentrated Degreaser, Dettol, break cleaner. If it's metal then it won't hurt it, and it should come off. Even then, if the leftover paint in the details isn't clogging them up and is just stuck on the model, it's likely that you won't ever know after priming it again. It's rare that I can get 100% of the paint off of a used mini, but it almost never makes a difference.

Sort of. Most of the models are older, and that makes perfect sense to me, but there were some that were from only a few years ago, so it gets weird. If there are new models that come out that are basically the same as older ones then you can absolutely still use them, nobody would question them on the table. The main issue is that the newer models being removed doesn't make sense and there won't be new rules made for any of the dropped models going forward, so even if you still want to use them in a game, your rules will always be behind all of the other armies, which probably means it won't ever be very good. Not that you can't still have fun with them, I'm still going to play my models with whatever rules I have, but I can see why that would upset some people.
@SpooKimi

@@eBayMiniatureRescues i get why it upsets peeps, but I also feel that peeps sometimes tied themselves to much to non legends models or what's good (and I feel KZbin doesn't help from peeps miswording it as it's gone and you can't use it to just making hate content but that's also sadly motivated with how the platform works I did wish peeps were also more open to trying other games, tbh more mini agnostic games would be good ^^ But getting peeps to try is the hard part even if they don't need to buy any minis 😅 But I also have the luxury/privilege that I have peeps with an overall open mindset and that don't mind playing with homebrew, a pretty big local community and almost everyone are super okay with proxies etc But it would be nice to get an explanation from gw of why they aren't gonna make some 2y old models anymore (some chaos warcry) because I'm kinda curious as they aren't old

Not important if your Orks are 1st editions or last edition for OPR for exemple. I have a small force of Ratmen from OPR I use to play Mordheim with some players, and other kind of dark gods warriors to play The Old World (I would prefer Age of Fantasy regimental, but still easier to push people to go back to "Warhammer Battle" for now)

Skaven! These are among my favourite factions in WH, while I also like ratmen and wererats in general throughout fiction. I've never really been affected by GW's decisions on what I'm allowed to use, beyond that they make it so difficult to get certain models. That's why I'm all about kitbashing and converting my own custom versions of the expensive minis. I have some older and more recent plastic Skaven, which I'm mixing with Mantic's Veer-myn and Ratkin, trying to make an army that looks somewhat cohesive. Even if I don't get to play with the army I'm working on, my dream is to make a diorama similar to the Vermintide II trailer. ^^
