Good news, Daisy my very first Foster Hammy was adopted! I explain the process of getting her adopted out and then sharing my
rescue mission for my 2nd Foster Hamster. Unfortunately the next foster hamster is also from a neglect case such as Daisy & i show you her cage setup that she was previously in. It will SHOCK you. Most hamsters you will see me foster will be from neglect situations because those are the hamsters i want to be saving. I hope to give these guys a better life through education and finding the right match for each hamster. Petstores unfortunately do not educate the public well enough and the US is behind in small animal welfare so people are unaware of providing the right care for them. So please always do your research before bringing home a pet. I hope you enjoy the rescue of Ms. Frizzle.
My Foster Home is about rescuing, rehabilitating and placing the animal in a well matched home. I learn about their personality, their needs and try my best to place them in a forever home once they're ready to leave. Fostering is temporary and tho i may get attached, there will always be a helpless animal out there who needs a place to go, so there will never be a foster fail because i want to have as many foster children as possible, because that's how many animals I've helped in my lifetime. Why not consider fostering yourself? Get involved and see for yourself what it means to be a Foster Home.

When I first got my Chinese hamster I got him a small 4 inch wheel; I went out to get him a bigger one within a week after seeing that it would be too small for him. Really grateful for channels like yours that educate people on correct care for small pets, I hope Ms. Frizzle finds a good home, she seems so sweet!

Ms. Frizzle is gorgeous!! Her colouring is almost identical to the last hamster I had, Peach, it's uncanny. Timothy Hay may be an unsuitable substrate/bedding, but it does make a good nesting material and some hammies like to just generally nibble on it. At least she wasn't on the pine shavings when you rescued her...

Is it possible for hamsters to be allergic? I gave my hamster some in her food dish and she looked I'll and had a hard time using the bathroom. I gave it to her to separate times and both times she had an I'll appearance. The bag is just collecting dust now and my ham has been okay. :)

Do you think that Wodent Wheels are significantly better than Silent Spinners (besides obviously the size factor)? My ham has an 8” Wodent Wheel Jr. and he’s a syrian, but I think he needs something a bit bigger so I don’t know if I should go ahead and get an 11” Wodent Wheel or wait for the 10” Silent Spinner
@MunchiesPlace
@MunchiesPlace 6 жыл бұрын
Emminade because I have not personally had a wodent wheel cause of cost, I'm waiting for the silent spinner. From what Pam at Hammylux has told me, wodent wheels are annoying to clean. So I'm waiting for a silent spinner which will be out within the next week I'm told. But I did just purchase a silent runner on Amazon.

A week ago I took a hammy in that is approximately 18-19 months old and has lived her life in an enclosure that was around the same size (about 100 square inches). Your channel inspires me. I will be keeping her, but I want to get more and foster them until I find a better home for them. The need is high in my area, many people just dont know much about hamsters in general. But Ill need to work out how much I can take on both financially and mentally.

When they claim they don't have time for a hamster, one wonders whether they have time for anyone but themselves. I have timed myself doing proper animal husbandry of my hamster. It takes less than two minutes to clean and feed him, replace the water, as well as shift his sand bath/litter box. My hamster enjoys watching me do these everyday chores, and I enjoy doing these chores... My little beast deserves no less... Of course I have a 200 quart bin for his enclosure which isn't larger than a large laundry basket that doesn't require a deep clean every week and doesn't take a half hour to reassemble..

I absolutely love fostering Guinea pigs!! It’s the best thing! I currently have 2🐠 1🐹 2🐻(guinea pigs). I have so far fostered one guinea pig and she was named Luna, previously from a neglected situation and got seperated from her buddy. Then someone got hold of Luna but couldn’t keep her because they had allergies so we fostered her for one month. Then she went to live with some family and she’s settled in very well. It was sad saying goodbye because she was so sweet and always up for cuddles but I knew she was going to have the best care! I’m going to Surrey to see her in August xx

I have no sympathy for people who treat animals like this. Ignorance isn't an excuse these days due to the internet. Back when I got my first hamster back in 1998 I think I didn't have access to the things that people have access too now but I still feel guilty 🤦🏻‍♀️
@ecologist_to_be

Even back in 1998 the hamster was a rescue as they were bored of it. All I remember reading back then is large wheels for Syrians (I had a rat one) and no cotton bedding. Can't believe they still sell cotton bedding when it was known to be bad 20 years ago lol

@gigiu91
@gigiu91 5 жыл бұрын
I think you shouldn't be too hard on them, if they cannot afford a pizza, I doubt they can afford to pay for internet connection, which would put them in a similar situation to the eighties when there wasn't internet at all. I mean, they probably knew that the hamster needed more than that, so that's why they gave it away. I think the child was more responsible than he seemed, he chose not to put the pine shavings in the cage (he probably noticed the hamster reaction to that and stopped putting it as bedding) and that pack of hay probably was all they could afford for a long length of time, so he had to make the hard choice to either put a lot of it to make thicker bedding and let it in for a month or more without changing it (thus letting the hamster wallow in their own filth) or put less but changing the bedding more often. The second choice, while not ideal, at least was more sanitary. And the choice to give her away was even more responsible all things considered. They recognised that they weren't taking good care for the hamster, so they decided to give her to a better home, instead of the other terrible alternatives.

I recall a library book saying a ten gallon aquarium was suitable for a hamster enclosure. Then a twenty gallon aquarium was suitable for a while. I don't have a family w/ kids but i've had to feed a room filled with gamers before. I bought everyone their own individual pizza and some helped pay but my gosh adults eating a medium pizza is hard enough to pay for after tax. So one can only assume it would be extremely hard for a family of i think 5 at the time? I think that's how many i counted at the door. The kids sincere reaction really does speak volumes about the living situation and unfortunately Washington has horrible tax rates and our homeless crisis is getting pushed into a corner and not being dealt with or people are not being open minded about how half of our paycheck is all in rent. It's quite a big struggle. And on top of owning a pet, unfortunately people don't realize that they can be unintentionally neglectful if they cannot provide a pet but keep it anyways, so the family made the right call and i'm glad Ms. Frizzle is with the 2nd adopter i've ever had the pleasure of speaking to. It's nice that the majority of adopters have been wonderful people. Unfortunately i cannot say the same for some people who've been unpleasant to the foster/rescue.

Are soft hide outs safe for hamsters? If so which ones are and also how do you know a saucer is to small for a hamster? Love your vids❤
@MunchiesPlace
@MunchiesPlace 6 жыл бұрын
Saucer sizes are I believe 4, 7 and 12. So small, medium and large. Larger is suitable for syrians while medium 7 inch is good for dwarfs. As for soft hides, I don't use them because syrians usually tear them up. Not sure about dwarfs tho.

My hamster seems to bite a lot and I was thinking constantly what am I doing wrong? is something in the cage not good enough what do I need to change..... but then the babies came. SHE WAS PREGNANT all this time and then they bite as well.

Is sawdust good for hamsters?
@ellasinclair3015
@ellasinclair3015 5 жыл бұрын
[ LilacHammy ] I wouldn’t think so. You can use aspen wood shavings ? But sawdust is too dusty and it can get in their lungs. Never use shavings with pine!

No, if u live in England ( yes the majority is sawdust) get carefresh. If not kaytee clean and cozy is good.

I don't know tons about hamsters so this might sound stupid, but do hamster need/eat hay?
@MunchiesPlace
@MunchiesPlace 6 жыл бұрын
Having hay in their enclosure is fine, however i've never personally seem them eat hay and it's not needed. We use hay for nesting material but even then they don't use that. The only hamster i've had who seemed to like Hay was Hannibal in our recently Fall Themed Cage but that was for bedding, not eating. Sources say they eat it, but i've never seen it unless it's in a pellet for fiber.
