Just a few tips. I bought a roll of cork at Hobby Lobby over in the crafts section. I think it cost around the same price as one Niteangel mat. I don’t remember how wide, long or thick the roll was but I have several different size platforms and chamber hideouts and I was able to make to mats for all of them and had some left over. I just flipped the platforms and hideout lids over and traced them out w a pen or pencil and cut them out with a box knife from work. Using a new blade of course makes cutting a lot easier. Way easier than scissors. I put a large cardboard box underneath so I didn’t cut my floor up. I glued some of them on with Elmers glue and left some loose. Some I glued moss to as well. For cleaning, I find that rinsing with hot water then spraying with a vinegar/water solution, rinsing again after sitting a few min and then setting out in the sun helps with the smell. I do the same with all my cork logs, grapevine wood and sand. The sun is good for disinfecting, killing fungus as well as drying things quickly.

Thank you! ooh meaning you're already worried about the height of the 116 qt? I've found Home Depot or Lowes often has the 200 gallon. But I also suggest checking out FB marketplace or Offerup for used hamster bins/enclosures - I got a 75 gallon tank for free once, in addition to some pre-made 200 qt bin lids for very inexpensive! Lastly, just make sure you fill up that bin with lots of bedding! And then it won't be too far to fall :)

great setup ..i have the same long bendy bridges but i unscrewed the hooks as a safety measure as my robos are always dashing about and i did not want them to catch themselves on the hooks [ also as they dont have a barred cage the hooks were useless ] .

I love your cage set up so much!! I love how much love and care you put into your hamsters' enrichment and the DIYs you do 🥺 I never thought about grip for the Niteangel acrylic boxes, I should get the cork mats too!! My only suggestions would be to add even more bedding just because I love trying to give hamsters as much as possible like they'd get in the wild 😂 But they already seem happy and burrowing! And this might be overboard/overkill, but I would think about reconsidering giving them a plastic bottle to drink from because all plastics are harmful and will eventually leech out chemicals, and hamster lifespans are so short already :(((( Found out a story about how a former Johnson & Johnson employee tried to bring some food to the CEO's house party in a plastic Tupperware and he stopped her like "WHAT are you doing??? I don't allow ANY plastics inside my house" and refused to allow her inside, and I haven't been the same since. I switched out my plastic water bottle for a glass one and eventually switched to just a ceramic water dish. Sorry for the long comment, but I love your hamsters and your love for them!! 🥰🥰💞💖💖

Hi! Aww thanks for your feedback! Interesting about the plastic, tbh I’m not sure if they make 4 Oz glass hamster bottles, but I’ll check! I have mixed feelings on plastic, I think if you’re not washing it on high heat it has fewer microsheds, I also find that when I do use glass / Pyrex materials I get very nervous about the heavy item somehow falling in my hamster (even if I have it on a riser or platform, what if it breaks or tips over somehow?!) so I haven’t quite made up my mind on the plastic vs glass /ceramic debate! I think both have merits depending on the hamster, the cage , the climate & the owner. But all good thoughts, I do agree that probs less plastic when it comes To eating vessels is better! 💕 Thanks for your comment!!

Nice setup. Have you ever had a Syrian hamster? I’m thinking about getting one, but I’m a little intimidated by their size and needs.

Hi! I haven’t had a Syrian before! I volunteered to be a foster home for a local rescue and almost got one as my foster, but then he got adopted. I think I’d like to start with a male Syrian, since they are usually a bit more chill. But… also I just love dwarves! Plus all my setups and things are for dwarves. Maybe fostering would be a good way for you to start and see if you like having Syrians?

Oh, it looks like I possibly left it out of my list in the description! It’s the Niteangel Acrylic wheel in 10” size. I put cork along the running track bc Steven has sensitive paws and gets bumblefoot when he runs on harder surfaces (but cork helps protect his little feet 👣).
