I think we had a grey one and a red one. Knew there was a blue one but never had one.

I’ve never seen blob chip on a game boy before. Is it real?
@RestorishOfficial5 ай бұрын
I believe the newer original boards were made with blob chips to cut manufacturing cost

There's a solder-free way to fix the lost lines on a game Boy. Put batteries in your game Boy. Turn it on. Then slightly remove one battery and put it back quickly so the power goes off and on. Don't take the battery all the way out. Just enough to interrupt the power. You might need to do this a few times. Doesn't work every time but sometimes it fixes the lines.
@mjc09615 ай бұрын
Nah that's complete crap. The lines are from the screen no longer being properly connected to the board. You can't fix those loose connections by fiddling with the batteries.
@findtama5 ай бұрын
Try it.
@RestorishOfficial5 ай бұрын
I just experimented with that idea on that clear Game Boy I used in the video. Flickering the battery/contact would occasionally create more lines or a slightly glitched out display, and continuing to flicker the battery would cycle through states of creating more lines and getting rid of them. However it never cleared the original line I was seeing on the left side. Perhaps this method works in cases where the lines appear based upon the game not loading correctly, but not when the screen connection is to blame.
@findtama5 ай бұрын
@@RestorishOfficial hey, thanks for giving it a try. Not everyone has the skill to open up a game Boy and run a soldering iron across the contacts. This method may help some people as a first thing to try. If it gets rid of the lines and you don't need to open the game Boy then that's great. Like I said above it didn't work every single time so what you're saying makes sense. Thanks!

How long does this retro bright treatment effect usually last for?
@RestorishOfficial5 ай бұрын
I have only recently been experimenting with it. So I haven't seen personal long-term results yet. But I have seen a number of people report the yellowing return within a few years. I will be watching a few things I have treated over the next few years and at some point will revisit to report my longer term results.

@WhiteWolf4135 ай бұрын
I'm not gonna lie I liked the look of the yellowing created. It would have been a unique colored OGB. I too fix and restore games and I probably would have left it like it was and just cleaned and fixed any parts that needed to be fixed.

There is definitely an argument to be made for embracing the aging and yellowing effects. I go back and forth, system by system. But yeah, I see your point and want to encourage it! I wish more people loved and embraced "flaws".
