Overlooked Achievement: The Life of Lise Meitner

I was privileged enough to en-gift myself with Ruth Lewin Sime's biography about Lisa Meitner. It is written with such enlivening intimacy. I am going to spend a couple of hours a week reading this tome with my wonderful friend who is a female and a Professor of Physics in Australia. My friend will appreciate every written word and the spirit and devotion that Ruth Lewin Sime managed to resurrect successfully in spirit and has the power to arouse that spiritual beauty in us.

Although Otto Hahn took credit for Lise Meitner's work, she succeed in getting a higher award for her work. She got element 109 named after her.

So great to hear the author of her biography talking about Meitner! I found out about Meitner from Richard Rhodes' book on the Atomic Bomb and found this author in Rhodes' bibliography. I'm just a hopeless fan of both Meitner and her biographer.

I am almost finished "Lise Meitner A Life In Physics". It is an extraordinary work and I was trying to reach out and thank your grandmother. Would you do that for me? That it documents the science, the national and personal politics, the inner psychology so well, I can't even understand. Anyone who has interest in the ladies from Hidden Figures should also study the experience of Lise Meitner.

The woman speaking is the author of a truly worthy purchase about Lise Meitner. Here name is Ruth Lewin Sime. Ruth's writing is far superior to her presentation here where she is less attuned to speaking but her writing is absolutely exquisite and the name of the biography by the above author is written in this KZbin introduction. You will not discover a better version about Lisa Meitner. Good luck with your paper Violet. Another great supporter of woman in science is David Bodanis. David Bodanis introduces his audience to Lisa Meitner in his video on Einstein although at the end. You will receive much pleasure from viewing his whole video presentation though.

Lies Meitner explained fission by using Bohr’s Liquid Drop Model and reputedly did so on the back of a cigarette packet on a park bench in Stockholm, discussing it with her nephew Otto Frisch. Just an afterthought, she is buried in a church in Bramley, my favourite Apple. One of the great scientists of the 20th century. ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️

It's not about the lack of information but about publicizing it. For instance, the list of Nobel Prize winners is easely accessible, but many people can't name one physics NP winner; and many others automagically say "Einstein", thinking of the relativity theory (which isn't what got him the Nobel).

The British Astrophysist, Jocelyn Bell Burnell, was not inc' in the list of 5 co-recipient 's of the Nobel Peace prize awarded to Antony Hewish & Martin Ryle in 1974. This caused controversy. Is it about Nobel winners alone? Surely other female scientists, working in the background also deserve recognition.

@Fand421 Ya she did, the male who got the noble prize for the work. Only tested what she said to test. She came up with the theory, and did the mathematics to it. Which yes she had other mathematicians check her work, but that's what all mathematicians do when coming up with a formula. Unless you actually read the dairies of those who was involve at the time. Then you don't know what you talking about. Because in history class, and a lot of other place's, they have change the facts.

Little is known about particular women scientists when they are forced to leave their positions and flee Nazi Germany, and then their former colleagues devote the remainder of their lives to sweeping their contributions under the carpet and discrediting them.(and then in the book she also talked about how the US media got it totally wrong the other way, characterizing Meitner as the Jewess who smuggled the bomb out of Germany in her purse to the Allies).
