Reservoir Dogs was supposed to be an Indie post-college type film so Quentin Tarantino could show people he could direct. However, when Harvey Keitel read the script he immediately poured money into the project and got top-notch actors to sign on. Secured a distribution deal for Quentin Tarantino and suddenly Quentin Tarantino was the hottest young director in Hollywood. Making a film ten times better quality than his peers for one-tenth the money and sending Quentin Tarantino into legendary status. Also, the woman who shoots Mr. Orange before he kills her was Tim Roth's dialect coach who taught him an American accent. She was so hard on him he asked for her to play the woman he killed.

Not John Carpenter's The Thing, he was talking Fantastic Four The Thing which is a rockman. However, Tarantino has said on several occasions that Hateful Eight and Reservoir Dogs are loose adaptations structure wise as John Carpenter's The Thing, I tend to agree especially with Hateful Eight with Kurt Russell. All about paranoia, knowing there is an interloper but not sure which one that everyone and Noone is a suspect. Quentin Tarantino has said many times he thinks John Carpenter's The Thing is one of the best pieces of cinema ever made and I always thought in Hateful Eight Keith David or Wilford Brimley or another cast member of The Thing.

I can't find any source for "reservoir dog" being slang for a "rat" in California, or anywhere else. Are you sure you haven't just made that up? Also... "According to Quentin Tarantino, the title for his first feature-length film, Reservoir Dogs (1992), came about after a patron at a Video Archives rental store, where Tarantino worked, misheard his film suggestion of Au revoir les enfants as "reservoir dogs"".

@@Scoobay Did you know that “reservoir dogs” is actually a literal translation of the Chinese 水庫犬 (shuǐkù quǎn), which is a quote from the film City on Fire-the film which Tarantino was heavily influenced by when writing Reservoir Dogs-it is a Chinese proverb/metaphor that means “there is no honor among thieves”. See, that makes sense. It’s not true, but it makes sense. So, according to your logic, you might as well “assume” it’s correct, regardless of its factual accuracy.

Between this movie and "Pulp Fiction", there were two movies that were written by Quentin Tarentino but done by other directors: "True Romance" (directed by Tony Scott) and "Natural Born Killers" (directed by Oliver Stone, who brought you "Platoon" and "Born on the Fourth of July"). I don't want to spoil it for you so I'll just say "Natural Born Killers" is done in a very surreal way and is basically a statement about turning criminals into celebrities. For me....this is still my favorite Q.T. movie. Taking into consideration that this is his first movie and it was done on a shoe string budget, with some guerilla style film making and it put Steve Buscemi on the map. You could literally see the effect this movie can have on you in both your expressions at the end. You can see how tense Asia is and the wtf look on B.J. Even after seeing this multiple times the tension is still real but you get so invested that you don't really realize it until its over. It's like you just missed getting hit by a car.

Hey Asia and BJ, the character subtext in this movie is so next level. -------- Harvey Keitel feels responsible for getting Tim Roth shot. -------- HE stops thinking like a criminal and starts taking on a father figure role, soothing Tim Roth as he bleeds out. --------- He knows ROth's going to die, he feels responsible for it and it won't let him entertain the fact that Tim Roth is a cop. -------- Tarantino's subtext is always next level and gives the meaning of events in the movie so much more psychological impact than would be in a normal shoot-em-up heist flick.

My favorite Tarantino movie would be "From Dusk to Dawn", and he plays in it too--he plays George Clooney's weird little brother that has a fixation on the teenage daughter (Juliette Lewis) of the family they kidnapped. Harvey Keitel plays the father and Ernest Liu plays Juliette's brother. Salma Hayek plays a stripper at the Titty Twister saloon--and does a great job being spooky as well as sexy! Well, if you're into snakes that is. Anyway, while it is pretty violent and bloody, it's also just a great vampire story played by some great actors--you guys really should see it!

Ok Lawrence Tierney (the old man) was insane. He had shot his nephew during filming and Tarantino had to bail him out for him to shoot his scene. Him and QT got into a fist fight and he was fired. The Simpsons crew said he was the most difficult guest voice and they ever had and were terrified of him. Also he was on one episode of Seinfeld playing Elaine’s father and never came back because he also terrified cast and crew working with him and Jerry Seinfeld had to intervene because he was seen taking a knife from the kitchen set and ending up pretending to stab Jerry while making the “Psycho” music. He also terrified a 15 year old Will Wheaton on a set. Search Lawrence Tierney Reservoir Dogs to hear the cast talk about him. It was on the DVD 😂

This is my favorite Quentin Tarantino film. I really love the characters and the dialogue. The performances are excellent, especially regarding the chemistry between Harvey Keitel and Tim Roth. This being his first film, it’s great to see the kind of non-liner storytelling that would come to be expected with Tarantino’s later films. I just love this film, it’s cool to see you guys watch this film. I hope you’re doing well, have a great Christmas weekend, take care!

Quentin was up against some real competition this year with the release of Batman Returns, Lethal Weapon 3, Sister Act and Home Alone 2: Lost in NY. 2 Major Franchises, Sister Act which I remember seeing in 93 or 94 when it came on HBO. Home Alone 2. Reservoir Dogs was released in less than 100 theaters.

Mr. Blonde is the brother to John Travolta's character in Pulp Fiction. Initially, the briefcase in Pulp Fiction was supposed to contain the diamonds from Reservoir Dogs. Also, Tarantino wrote a script called The Vega Brothers but with Travolta and Madsen too old for the roles now, he's shelved it

26:40 Dialogue: Four Los Angelis County Sherriff's and a German Shepheard... Woof! BJ: And a dog! 😂😂❤ On my life I am not trolling, or being a smart ass, or poking fun, etc... I just personally cracked up at that. BJ's quick response made it even funnier. We all have our own experiences and pockets of knowledge, so it would not really enter my head to comment that the German Shepheard IS the dog; but just BJ throwing that line so quickly made me cry with laughter!

I saw a stage performance of this about 25 years ago. It was pretty good. The theater held less than 200 people. They included a scene cut from the movie. For the on-air DJ, they had a local DJ record the parts they played through the show. The blanks in the guns were incredibly loud in such a small theater. After the show, my ears were ringing from the last shoot out.

Most underrated Tarantino movie is Deathproof. it stars the stunt person for Uma Thurman in Kill Bill. She does her own stunts, obviously, and it is a celebration of the movie stunt professional. Definitely worth a watch!

Some people believe Mr Pink got away and became the Buddy Holly waiter at the diner in pulp fiction. And Vince and Vic Vega were brothers or cousins

You could hear him getting shot at the end, but it would have been ironic if it was Mr Pink laying low as a waiter, because of his feelings about not tipping servers

One Fan Theory is that Mr. Pink got away with the diamonds, and went into hiding, and he's playing the same charector in Pulp Fiction. It kinda ties in with the in universe fact that Vic Vega/Mr. Blonde and Vincent Vega (John Travolta in Pulp Fiction) are brothers.
@BoondockRoberts

Mr Blonde was Travolta's brother from pulp fiction. They we're going to do a Vega brothers prequel but both actors got too old as time ran out to get the project set up. This movie deserves a second watch to see all the hints. Especially the movie nods like orange containers in the room when they were talking about who the rat was. The ear slicing scene, Quentin had to fight to keep in as executive meddling was afraid it would revolt viewers away.
