Tarantino had saved $30,000 to film a short in black and white with his friends aacting in it but Harvey Keitel happened upon the script from a friend of a friend type thing. He loved it and so this famous award winning actor signed on to act in this complete unknown's directorial debut which helped Tarantino raise a little over 1.5 million to make a real movie. That's how great this script is.

That's totally bullshit. Your wrong about the Harvey Keitel story producers were interested in the story before he was involved. I've read "Quentin Tarantino Interviews" which is a compilation of transcripts from all of his interviews about all of his films there wasn't a single mention of the 30k story. He only mentioned renting cameras on weekends and working weekdays at the film shop in order to fund "my best friend's birthday" he did however mention a number of figures offered by producers as his script for reservoir dogs he also mentioned how he put a lot of his own money in too which may be where you've mistaken the number from.

Yes Pulp Fiction was amazing but somehow this film has the longevity. Harvey Keitel is epic in this (all the actors are to be fair) and steals the show in Pulp Fiction.

Idk, I feel it drags a bit on rewatch when it gets into Orange’s backstory. I think Pulp Fiction and True Romance (which he didn’t direct, of course) are more consistently watchable.

@Jared Falk watched Dogs the other day. Scene where White and Orange were recalling Blonde in the Jewelery store. White asks, "How old was that black girl? 18, MAYBE 19??" That was about Rosalie's age. Luther's girl who Ganz popped on the bus. Ganz executed people as Vic (Kappa Enforcer) would, BAM-BAM-BAM. Ganz took his artillary seriously. In a suitcase. Vic had his double holsters. "Firewater" and Straight-Edge razor. Vic wore cowboy boots. Ganz's native partner wore a cowboy hat. Ganz liked blondes and enjoyed killin cops. Vic was Mr Blonde and enjoyed torturin cops. Joe assigned names and apologized for yellin after the Bullpen story. Cates yelled "HAMMOND" in the cellhouse and later apologized for... Name-callin. Tired now. Gnite One more thing...Billy was extension of Ganz. Both Billy and Vic used knives, died when they least expected. People think Donnie was an extension of Walter. I think Walter was an extension of the Dude. I KNOW that B Pitt was an extension of DiCaprio's insecure ass in Tarantino's Last... Joe Kappa looked just like The Thing! Backdraft firehouse mascot was named 'the Thing'. Looked just like, Jack Cates!
@versetripn6631
@versetripn6631 3 жыл бұрын
@Jared Falk when I mentioned Billy as an extension of Ganz, I was thinking in the Abstract as a character in another movie had a line: Joe Don Baker as a Private Investigator. Was helping a 'gun-naivette' learn to fire his weapon. "Just think of it as an extension of your fist!" JDB was the Sheriff in ORIGINAL 'Walking Tall'. His extension? A 2x4. The client learning the gun? Nick Nolte, 'Cape Fear'. Pitt was DiCaprio's extension vs the Manson fam. 'The Bear Jew' was Pitt's extension in...'Inglorious Basterds'. 'Donnie/Basterds' = Baseball bat Sheriff JDB/W.Tall = 2x4 "Sheriff" Hammond = toothpick Wood "Toothpick" Vic = Fire/Metal I can go on and on with elemental extensions. Walter/Dude's extension, used Stone (bowling ball) vs Nihilist Germans...😎 Nolte almost used stone vs DeNiro (Cape Fear 'Avenger') "I can do this ALL day!" - Steve/Cap Joe Kappa's Heist meeting was a mirror to Dalton's 'Roadhouse' bar redesign meeting. Connectors: "My way or the Highway! Chalkboard. Class seating. Empty building of operation. Pink to Joe: "Why am I Mr Pink? Joe: "Because you're a FAGGOT!" Morgan (baby Stark) Morgan (bouncer?) To Dalton: "You ASSHOLE, ...wtf am I supposed to do? Dalton: There's always Barber College!" I can personally connect (in Abstract), DOZENS of films from my memory. Zero influence from Social Media. I can do it on request! Try me: Name 3 of your Favs from the 80s! Also, I am NOT arrogantly boasting. I'm enthusiastically SHARING. I'm grateful for a gift that many may never recognize us ALL capable of. For that gift within, is intentionally being eroded. Why did Nolte/Cape Fear not know a gun? Wasn't it obvious in 48hrs? 😂 Why did 'buggin out' Billy Ray Valentine suggest to an officer to use his nightstick? He'd just come from bein strangled by one in 'Do the Right Thing'. Had escaped jail with Giancarlo Esposito left behind. Buggin Out(Esposito)/Radio Raheem both taken to jail night prior. Sorry, doin this with one hand while curling with other. TOTALLY stoned (6am Mpls time). Pray for my city and our country please!

Yes he was the only one being a professional, BUT as soon as he knew there was a rat, he should have taken the bag of diamonds and hit the road. (I would have) had he done that 1. he would have lived, and had hundreds of thousands? of dollars worth of stones he could later try and fence (outside of the country most likely) 2. IF things cooled down and it turns out there wasn't a rat things just went south really quick, he could make contact with Joe and let him know he had the diamonds and see how Joe wanted to proceed. Pink was a professional, but as soon as your know there is a Rat, all bets are off and it is everyone for themselves, especially when you have dead people and dead cops.

@@Meh2752 Sure, I am 48 years old and I got introduced to World War 2 in my early teens (The History of it) and fell in love with the History of it. So I was really hyped for this film (Inglorious Bastards) NOW the acting in this film is AMAZING, especially Christoph Waltz He earned that Oscar. The issue I have with the film is that the story deviates from reality in ways that it did not need to, there were many attempts on Hitlers life (All of them Failed) so this is one of those situations where I think they should have made the attempt and failed, (some of them could have still escaped) but the film just shows very unrealistic scenario for trying to kill Hitler. Brad Pitts Character was in part chosen because he could speak "Italian" and thus he could pass himself off as an Italian Officer?, REALLY with his strong southern accent? I LOVED LOVED LOVED many aspects of this film, but I just found the third act to be silly and not believable. I have the film I do not HATE the film, and I love the first act and second act, it is just the third act where I feel the film goes off the rails. When you know a LOT about the history of WW2 and the attempts to assassinate Hitler then you see the third act of that film to be a bit insulting. Good overall film, it is just that 3rd act that causes me to dislike the film as a whole.

I love the almost the father-son relationship that develops between White and Orange. The entire movie, White behaves like a dad, holding his hand, comforting him when he's bleeding out and of course defending him literally to the death. Even during the heist, even though we don't actually see it happen, everything points towards shit hitting the fan and White taking the effort to go get Orange and take him with him, and when Orange is in shock he protects him and guides him to safety. I think the reason it's such an effective movie is because it's got that relationship as its emotional core and it is so obvious just how much White grows to love Orange.

if you noticed at the beginning of the movie when orange is bleeding in the back seat -he's kicking at a child's carseat. and when White is dragging him into the warehouse he says "she had a baby..." he didn't just kill an innocent woman. he killed a new mother with a young baby. oof everyone is so shocked when Mr Orange reveals he's the mole... they miss that the uniform cop Marvin says "i know" Dude got took beating, got his ear cut off, and was about to get burned alive... and still didn't blow Orange's cover. Tarantino said he's gonna make a novel for it.

"Wild at Heart" by David Lynch is an obvious inspiration for Tarantino, whether he admits it or not, especially for his screenplay "True Romance". Lawrence Tierney ('Joe') started in films in 1943 (in The Ghost Ship) and was best-known for the title roles in Dillinger (1945) and Born To Kill (1947.) Prone to alcoholism and getting in bar fights, later in life Tierney commented "I threw away 7 careers because of drink" and he sunk into zero-budgeters in the 1950's. In the 1970's he drove a hansom cab in NYC. But Tarantino was always a fan and cast him; Tierney's battered mug and gravel-voice are perfect for the role.

The scene that is most memorable for me and the most striking, is when Mr. Blonde walks out of the mayhem of torturing the cop into a sunny "nothing to see here - move along" back street with kids playing and suburban housing opposite, then steps back into the horrific world he just came from. With a can of Petrol. It is a very clever theatrical device I guess, and also used to great effect in classics like John Carpenter's original "Halloween"

the father, Lawrence Tierney, was a big deal hollywood tough guy in the 40s: "Notorious for his frequent, well-publicized barroom brawls and the like, including being stabbed in 1973. In his later years, he continued as a screen actor projecting the hard-as-nails mien that has been ingrained since his younger days, as evidenced in Quentin Tarantino's Reservoir Dogs (1992)."

Jonah Hill as Nice Guy Eddie's ghost! I quite like that! You're 100% correct that this film feels different. It's a perfect script, and the editing is on point. What people fail to notice, however is that Taratino's films are a 50/50 collaboration with his editor Sally Menke. She was the one responsible for the timing and she was famous for keeping Tarantino in check by reducing the bloat of his films. In other words, she saves him from himself. She tragically died just after she edited "Inglorious Basterds" which is why the films after that "feel" different. "Django Unchained" was basically Tarantino stepping out on his own for the first time in 2 decades, and he didn't want to simply copy Sally's style of cutting and timing. I'm not actually sure he could if he wanted to. Anyways, "Reservoir Dogs" represents the purest and best of their relationship resulting in a perfect film. It reminds me of when Prince met Wendy and Lisa, and his sound TOTALLY changed. Wendy and Lisa added a brooding, jazzy, and moody sound to The Revolution that was iconic. When they left the group, they took that sound with them.

There's a Theory that Reservoir Dogs and Pulp Fiction both take place at the same time, around the same area and that's why the Police Don't show up in Pulp Fiction, because when a policeman gets shot in America, every cop in the area is called to the scene. I'm not sure if Tarantino has confirmed it or not but he did apparently say that all his films exist in one Universe. Some of them are supposed to be films within that universe.

The thing I love about this movie is how masterfully the characters progress in development as it progresses. We get more and more of the true depths of these characters coming out as time goes by: we learn about how Pink is actually a extremely professional, despite his appearance as the most weaselly of the group. We see that Blonde was absolutely out of his mind but he was also very dedicated to Joe and Eddie. We see that Eddie is actually a savage killer despite his appearance as a molly-coddled gangster's son. And it all plays out very organically.

I saw Reservoir Dogs in 1992, at a midnight showing - and was absolutely blown away. And I totally agree re his early work. I think there is debate as to whether Dogs or Pulp Fiction is his best film. I veer between the two. But either way, Reservoir Dogs is lean & perfectly drawn, and structured piece of work - and actually much better than his later films. I TOTALLY agree about his later films being indulgent - he needs an editor/script editor who doesn't pander to that indulgent - sadly, it's not gonna happen now.

Oh man, what a great pick. This flick really does have that old school / guerrilla filmmaking / Sydney Lumet / Dog Day Afternoon aesthetic. First time I saw it, it felt like a film version of a broadway play. One of the great shocking things about this flick that's lost today is that it was one of the first movies to just have those shootouts and gun shots use 'real' sounds, especially the way it echoed in the streets. It's kinda taken for granted but it really was shocking to hear actual 'raw' gun shot sounds instead of the pre-recorded over the top sound usually heard. I think a lot of movies changed over because of this and its' influence is felt all the way through to that shootout in Michael Mann's Heat.
