Reset BMW 3-Series E90 Service Lights

Here's how to reset the BMW 2006+ 3-Series E90 Service Lights.
Place a key in the ignition switch and press the start button. Wait until all check lights and beeping goes out. Put your foot on the brake pedal and hold odometer reset until yellow triangle comes up. As soon as that happens; release it (odometer reset button) and use scroll on left side of steering wheel to find an icon that you want to reset service light for. Press the top button (BC button) on left control handle and reset light will come on. Press again and hold it for few seconds. That should do it. You can keep scrolling until you reset all that needs to be done. Once you are done take a keyfob out and you are ready to go!

Thanks, exactly what I was looking for: a short video with no fluff going straight to the point with an answer. I haven't read all comments, but the "unknown" icon is road worthiness. I guess it's a manual check to ensure everything looks ok.

Many thanks worked like a charm for a 2011 3 series. The only bit of added complication I bumped into was I also had a current warning light for low fuel! You can hit BC to clear this warning before you press the brake and the odm button and access the service menu. If you try the sequence with current warnings displayed you cannot access the service menu (or at least I couldn't) Again thanks for the assistance. The lights had been bugging me for the last week (since I changed the discs, pads and sensors)

What kept tripping me up was not holding the odm button long enough, if you let go just when the yellow triangle comes up, it won't work. You have to continue to hold it until the service portion comes up next, then let go. Thanks for the helpful vid!

Cheers Very helpful.... Update For UK owners... My E93 has an MOT reminder for each year. This was not cleared when I had the car MOT'd at a non-BMW garage and therefore the service warning light kept showing up when starting.... To reset MOT light follow what this video says re accessing the service indicator menu, then when scrolling through look for the weird S with a hole in it (MOT warning) - it will be in RED indicating that this is the issue the car keeps reminding you about (the other service lights should be yellow indicating that they are ok). You then reset it it as in video, you then also see an option to amend the date for the next reminder, use the toggle up/down on BC stalk to change the month / year you want the next MOT reminder and use the BC button to confirm your choice.

M B same exact scenario here. Had a BMW specialist do my annual safety/emissions inspection here in the states and they didn’t reset the light. Didn’t feel like going back, this worked like a charm

Works on 2011 E92s, also a note if you have any warnings on your display you have to dismiss them with the BC button before you can do this, you'll want it to show the default time/temp.

@aniini I've got the ABS light to light up on my dashboard randomly one winter,try to turn the car off and unhook the battery connectors for like a minute or two. Hook it up and start the car it should be fixed if it isn't an actual faulty ABS system.

Hi, thanks for this video. I tried to reset the front brakes without success. Then tried to reset the rear brakes (that still had some time left). Now I just get dashes for both front and rear. I'm a bit puzzled over this. Do I reset this at the "service" symbol?

I'm in the same situation. This procedure should work but I can not get it to make any difference. I still have the red "BRAKES" light and the red car up on the lifting column. And I did replace the pad wear sensor.

I tried this and it worked fine for the oil lamp, but for the front brakes instead of deleting it, it just deleted when it was. So now it says I still have front brake-service, but doesn't say when. It just says in "_____km". Also, now when I start the car, I get a red light indicating a four-wheel control when that should be in 19 000 km.. any ideas?

Hi, I might be a first time buyer for a BMW 2006 330i 150,000 miles mostly highway miles... How long can this vehicle last me if I keep up with maintenance just like the previous owner did. I was wondering how great this engine and transmission is... I checked under the vehicle of the engine did not see oil leaks very clean. Only problem reverse light wont turn on... Install a new sensor otherwise when you reset the indicator it wil NOT change the miles,, and you do get a service warning. Handbrake light keeps burning and service light comes on when you take the key out of the holder. After replacing the sensor everything was solved, if you change the brake pads, BUY A NEW SENSOR !! saves you extra work.

Little Bimmer My front brake pad service light is on. But my brakes are fine and I think it's due to the km. it will not allow me to reset the front brake service light as it show km----- Is there anything I can do? Or is my only option to change the sensor ? Any suggestion will be appreciated.

So all the times seem to have reset using this method but the mileage cut-off stays the same. For instance, mine shows that a service is due 01/2017 now that I have reset it, but the mileage for when the service needs to take place still says 80,000 miles. The car has 175,000 so I'm still getting that service warning no matter what I do. Any suggestions?

Just tried this and it took several tries until I realized you have to keep holding the odometer button PAST the yellow triangle. If you let go when the yellow triangle shows up, you can’t get into the service menu. Hope that helps anyone else who gets stuck on this.

That S symbol is service and inspection. so S car = General service and inspection ... S exhaust = ex and cat service and insp. ... BTW that brakes one with the liquid in the middle is the brake fluid which you need to swap every 2 years. Great vid .. i have it bookmarked since forever to reset it when i need it.

I don't get the triangle. 2011 328xi. When I push the BC switch, I can only see time, oil change, service control. Nothing else. The garage told me that I have many warning codes. Any ideas?

The one I didn't know was the emissions service date. So basically you change it by what year you need your emissions to be tested again. In Canada its every 2 years.

You need someone to code out the error via an OBDII dongle. The video is for only service intervals.

The above method does not work on a tire pressure warning. How to clear the tire pressure warning depends what you did to fix it. If you took a flat off and put on a spare, you likely do not have a pressure monitor in it (2008 and later) or it's the wrong diameter for the wheel it replaced (2007 and earlier). Get the flat fixed and put back on the car. Make sure all 4 tires are at the right pressure. Then, follow the tire pressure reset procedure you can find online or in your manual.

Razzzorback have you replaced the sensors when having the brake pads replaced? Your sensor might be worn or shorted hence why the system unable to register the new mileage.

+m, dgh Sorry, airbag lights are not considered service lights. They are fault lights. Which require a repair or other software/coding to suppress the light.

Your first sentence about putting the car into service mode: "You press the Start button once until all the lights & beeping stops" What exactly does this mean? Your'e implying that we press & hold the start button until all the lights & beeping stops. But I can hear in the video that you are pressing the Start button & releasing the button immediately. So your instruction is confusing & doesn't seem to match the correct actions. Do you mean to say: 1) Press the Start button. 2)Wait for lights & chimes to finish. 3) Press the Odometer stalk & brake pedal until the yellow triangle appears.

Just press the button once, without your foot on the brake. When the car stops making all those chimes and noises start to do the process to get into the service menu.

That's your problem. You have a 2005 model. If you read the description its for 2006 cars and up. E90 chassis model.
