Reset Power Window Limits on a Ford Vehicle

The power windows on my Ford vehicle recently got messed up. The window would only roll down partially and then stop. In this video we show how to reset the power window limits to fix the problem. This is sometimes referred to as the Ford ‘One-Touch’ system.

It would take at least six times to roll my window up with it going back down again. This literally fixed it with pushing it down, holding it for six seconds, and holding it up for six seconds, and doing it on repeat two or three times… you’re amazing, thank you again

I was ready to take my F250 to the dealer to fix a weird problem where the driver side window would go all the way to the top then down again to a mid-point setting. Glad I decided to check here first. The reset procedure you described worked. It now goes up all the way and stays there whether I move it up by holding the switch or using the one-touch feature.

When I have the bounce back going all the way to the top I did have to toggle it up to full up then hold it for two seconds while it was fully up and of course 2+ seconds when it was fully down… that seemed to fix it

You have a friction issue and you need to lubricate the sides of the window where it slides up and down kind of feels like velvet on the inside track. This trick might help but spraying lubricant is your best option for that

It was the wires. I took it apart and there was broken wires in the harness. It had nothing to do with lube.@@biancabee5832

do earlier Ford vans have power window Limits too? My driver's side window stops responding when it reaches the top, I can't lower it unless I loosen the 3 motor bolts and disengage the motor sprokets. I do not have the automatic switch, only a up/down switch. 1997 Aerostar.

Your method did not work on mine but I tried it reverse method which going down first and holding it down for a few seconds then going up and holding it up for a few seconds and that worked

On some hybrid cars if you disconnect the 12 volt battery the windows and sunroof can also act up like this. 🙄Just not sure the reset technique is the same for all manufacturers.
