Maintaining your tires can boost the performance of your BMW - and keep you safe. That's why it's essential to know what tire pressure is right for your vehicle. Depending on your BMW model, the pounds per square inch, or PSI or short will vary. Generally, the recommended pressure ranges between 30 & 35 PSI. Every BMW comes equipped with a tire pressure monitor, and it's important to understand how the system works.
If air pressure drops more than 30% in 1 or more tires, you'll be notified via a yellow exclamation mark on your driving display, signaling that the tire pressure is low in your tires. A ""check control"" message may also appear in your BMW iDrive display.
To check the tire pressure, select ""Vehicle info"" from the iDrive display, then ""Vehicle status"", and activate the ""Tire Pressure Monitor"" system. To perform a reset, follow the instructions & prompts displayed on your BMW iDrive display. This will include inflating the tire/tires to the correct pressure, so please be sure to park somewhere safe.

BMW's TPMS is random and programmed for people who never ever think of their tire pressure until they have a flat. I'm not certain if they still offer the TPMS that shows the exact pressure by the 10th, but the basic systems only show whole numbers. So, it's almost impossible to get your tires to be accurately inflated for optimal driving. Sure, it's meant mostly for basic safety, but then, isn't BMW supposed to be the “Ultimate Driver's Machine”? I remember being in a friend's corporate car, a 2004 Chevy Malibu that gave you pressure readings by the 10th, and was also quick to respond as you added or reduced the air pressure in your tires. Not this system in BMW. It takes forever to respond to adjustments, and then, it constantly gives you suggested tire pressure amounts the entire time you drive. It's the most useless, convoluted solution to something that should be much, much simpler.

NO NO NO NO, This is TOTALLY wrong and irresponsible, when your TPMS shows low or bloody well ZERO, you pull over get out and check the goddamn tire. check all pressures with a manual gauge if no obvious reasons, pump up to correct PSI then reset the TPMS. ********** DONT EVER RESET ON ZERO WITHOUT CHECKING **************

Question: If I install wheelset from other BMW ( larger wheels), will this IDrive reset recognize and read my "new" wheels and TPMS or is this procedure only for already installed and programmed TPMS? In other words, do I need those TPMS scanners to have new Wheels/Tire/TPMS properly working or BMW Idrive would do that?

I have had this exact issue today with our 3 series because the BMW dealer forgot to reset the tire pressure after changing.tires.
