All the minor cuts and bruises on Milla Jovovich's character are real. No make-up was applied. Milla Jovovich said the real reason she did this movie was because her brother Marko was a huge fan of the video games. The presidents of Capcom Japan and America have cameos as zombies. Capcom created the Resident Evil series. The main actors were told to prepare for the film by getting copies of the games and playing them through. Some of them didn't know if they could complete them in time so they had to get video copies of other people beating the games and then watch it. (at around 1h 30 mins) There is a shot of Alice's eye close up near the end of the film. This is a direct reference to the first game in the series Milla Jovovich's character's name, Alice, is only revealed during the credits. (at around 11 mins) The wedding picture of Alice and Spencer looks similar to the pictures from Resident Evil (1996) and Resident Evil 2 (1998) (with the subjects up close and spliced onto the background image, and always in black and white). Even though they're everywhere, the word "zombie" is never spoken in this film. (at around 1h 27 mins) Near the end, when the underground tram pulls back to the Mansion station, the serial number on the front of the lead car reads "ALEXIA" followed by a string of digits. Alexia Ashford is the final antagonist of Resident Evil Code: Veronica. Also, Underground Trams are a recurring mode of transportation in the Resident Evil games. In the movie, Alice's fake husband is named Spence. This is a reference to the first game which took place in a mansion named the Spencer Estate. Also, one of the three founders of Umbrella Corporation in the game series is named Ozwell Spencer. The makeup department and crew had a hard time dealing with the dogs, who kept licking the zombie makeup, blood and meat off of themselves. The studio, Sony Pictures, had hoped at one time to make the film PG-13 so as to make the film more marketable to the younger video game fans, but director Paul W.S Anderson insisted that to be true to the game, the film must be rated R. Milla Jovovich and Paul W.S. Anderson, who met on the set of "Resident Evil", were married on 22nd August 2009 and (as of January 2019) have two children. Like in the games, after something is switched on/off, something else happens elsewhere. When the Red Queen is deactivated for the first time, all doors elsewhere are opened.

When I saw this in the theatre I thought it was okay. Strange because it didn’t have the characters you’d expect. Instead you had milla playing an anime portag. I was a big milla fan so that was okay by me. But the movie was definite b grade schlock. Good actors, but bad direction and editing. Aliens ripoff in plot, Matrix ripoff in style. Early 2000’s to the max. Right down to M Rod in the part she always plays. I’d say the sequel apocalypse is both better and worse. Always great to see Kieran!👍

Halon stopped being used mostly in the early 90s, due to it being a very high ozone depleting substance. Less to do with how deadly it can be, it’s not banned outright however. 50:00 The group was separated when the explosion happened from the tanks. Matt and Alice were grouped and the rest were over by the doors. Alice loses Matt because he is uncuffed and can now go off to find his sister. The others end up in that middle room with multiple doors connected to the red queens chamber. There are zombies outside the door into that room in the 'dining hall', so Alice isn't going to make her way through that crowd, she goes off to find another way. She finds Matt and they are chased by zombies back to the group through another door leading into that room they all were hiding in. I think it all makes sense, I do wish we seen the zombie chase from the beginning tho.

I don't buy the film being underrated (for me it badly lacked atmosphere & genuine scares) but the games are great. The first one in particular is a work of genius IMO. Many modern games are so sprawling & convoluted that i find them off-putting but the construction of RE1's narrative and gameplay mechanics were pitch-perfect with barely an ounce of flab. The outstanding remake on the Gamecube is still one of my all-time-favourite gaming experiences. Great video, guys.

I wanted it to be more horror than action, but it was still enjoyable. I was hoping the following movies would get gradually better as their budgets got better but that never happened. I also wanted to see the main characters from the games but that never happened either. It was like a version of Resident Evil set in another dimension where they didn't exist.

Funny thing about the cemetery scene in the 2nd RE movie is there is a deleted scene where the characters acknowledge how dumb it is going through a cemetery haha. I always find some dumb fun with the sequels, but they have issues. I think 4 was the worst, though. Like almost unwatchable bad. The shoehorning of random RE alumni without introduction is really stupid, though, and just bad writing (or lack thereof). RE6 game is pretty terrible. Definitely worst RE game. Only way I made it through was with a friend to suffer along playing through it online.

I think the SECOND movie is maybe the worst movie I’ve ever seen in a theater. It’s a toss-up between that and MK Annihilation, and both are sequels to movies directed by…Paul WS Anderson! One of my favorite parts of the terrible RE sequels is how when it came time to market the next one, Jovovich was always like “THIS one is for the fans!”, which just makes it sound like NONE of them were for anyone.

Resident Evil 2 was the first Playstation game I ever saw. I was like 7 and already obsessed with horror films, and when I saw that game it changed everything I knew about video games. Before that, video games to me were just Sonic and Mario/Duck Hunt. At 8 or 9 playing Resident Evil 1, 2, and 3 (I was prolly 13 by then) it seriously stressed me out. My ears would get hot and red and my mother showed concern(something she wasn't noted for). Resident Evil 4 was great, but it didn't have the same feel at all. Resident Evil 5 was terrible, fun as an arcade game though. I skipped 6 altogether, tried the demo and wasn't impressed. The remake of the original is one of the best games ever made, and Resident Evil 0 is also pretty great. I didn't have Gamecube so I didn't get to play those two until I had a good PC. Recently I got a PS5, and got the remake of 2. Very impressed with it so far, haven't finished it. And then I got 7, and I'm about 70% through it. It's excellent, and it doesn't feel like the originals or 4. Can't sleep on Silent Hill though. Silent Hill 1 & 2 are truly unique and creepy games. Dead Space is a masterpiece too. When I saw the first Resident Evil in theaters I was fully disappointed by it, but yeah today it's the best of the series. Raccoon City was NOT supposed to be a 1 million person city. It was a rural small town originally. I'd compare it to Lancaster Pennsylvania. In the movies and the REmake of 2 they've expanded the city by a lot. Also in the movie I hated that the lab was a huge complex. In the games is large, but it's not a city.

Well this movie was okay, this and the second are the only decent ones of the Resident Evil films. Not a huge fan of the director either.

My concern at the time of this film's original release was I found out early on that basically nobody from the games was represented here and that originally soured me to wanting to see it. My brother and I played RE: Director's Cut to death, beat RE2 a few times, and I beat RE: Code Veronica a few times by the time we had an opportunity to watch this film the first time, and I just couldn't get past the absences of Jill, Chris, AND Wesker in this first entry at the time. I was stuck in this mindset of "who is this random chick Alice who was never in any of the games" and that very much colored my ability to enjoy it as an "adaptation" of the series.

I think that's justifiable, especially with how terrible the series ended up

I love Colin Salmon. When I was rewatching the Brosnan Bond movies, I spotted him and thought he’d be a good Bond, though he’s probably too old now.
