@@sourabhkarmakar8040Have you ever played the games? The movies and their stories are obviously heavily influenced by them in many ways. Anderson based the film series on many elements introduced in those "mediocre" games you complain about, it's not exactly something he "established" or created himself. Also the films got negative reviews in general, and most of the people who hated on them never even played the games. I like the films btw (they're of the so bad it's good kind), I just don't get how someone can hate on the source material (that has done so much for the survival horror genre) yet defend the film adaptations that were universally poorly received. What's next, are you gonna say the Silent Hill, Doom and Hitman film adaptations were better than the games too?

All the people who complain about the movie's don't get it they were never meant to be high art they were schlocky B movies based on an early 90's game franchise. Some were lower budget with ropey CGI all the storylines were full of plot holes and the quality of performances varied widely and those of is who grew up playing the games didn't care. They are nothing but escapism nostalgia and fun.

The big CGI monster is called a Licker in the games. It's blind and reacts to sound, so best case scenario is to stealth your way around it. I wish they had done more with that stealth aspect in the movie, but I understand why that wouldn't have fit the tone.

As others have said, for the most part these movies are more inspired by the games than actually adapting them. They’ll use some locations or variations of locations from the games, some of the characters (Although I believe Mila’s character is unique to the films), and definitely the general design for the monsters/mutated humans from the games. Aside from that the plot is usually it’s own thing separate from the games plot, outside of the Virus coming from a bio research/weapons company called Umbrella Corporation with that logo.

Fun fact about the games and the movies. In Japan, the games and, by extension, the movies have always been and continue to be called "Biohazard", but in the US, there was a rock band named "Biohazard" when the first game was brought over to the West. The first game was set in a mansion with a secret base under it, so the localisers decided to call it "Resident Evil" as in "House of Evil" or "Evil House", and since then, every game and movie has been known as "Resident Evil" in the West, even though the title stopped making sense after the first game.

It's fun, the fight scenes are great. Milla does not get nearly enough credit for the catalogue of work she's done, not just films like these but ultraviolet, fifth element, drama movies. The movie is loosely based on the game but has the same spirit. It was initially going to be more faithful, but Capcom (The game's publisher) asked them to change it as they thought if the movie was too similar to the games, then people wouldn't play them and just watch the movies. Which would eat into their profits. As the movies went on, the started bringing in more game characters, but every character in this movie was original. Again, so people wouldn't be "spoiled" to the games. The logic doesn't make sense now but back in 2002, a Japanese company wasn't sure how a western adaptation would affect their sales. Especially as at that time, the games were survival horror games with cheesy stories based of western b-movies, such as the crazies, filled with lots of plot twists. I.e. This movie. So that is what people mean about it being barley based on the events and characters from the game but having the same spirit. And in defense of the later movies, the later games got more over the top and action packed, so they actually went in the same direction.

As you've seen, don't expect any amazing fantastic films from this series, it is mostly mindless horror action. My favorite fun fact about this movie is that the music was composed by Marilyn Manson. I love Resident Evil! I even have ALL the games on multiple consoles! When I was pregnant with my oldest I was sick with a cold and I spent 3 days straight beating one on PS2 back in like 2003. As far as her stunts go it's not all that far fetched when you look at what Bruce Lee could do. Not saying they don't make it dramatic with the shots.

Thumbs up for mentioning the crazies 😂 I live about 20 minutes from where they shot that film. There's a pub there we used to drink at. Then we'd hit the pub next town over where Emily Osment(Haley jole Osment sister) Shot her goosebumps movie. Just some film trivia. They both almost got hit by a tornado few years back but it never touched down

As someone who enjoys both well crafted masterpiece movies and absolute schlock, this movie has a special place in my heart. Yes it's silly, and the series gets sillier, but it's so earnestly trying to be cool, and failing, that I find it quite entertaining.

It's fair to say zombies have been done to death (lol) these days. When this movie came out, the zombie genre was by no means new. As an adaptation of a video game, this film did bring some new concepts and cool visuals to the genre, especially by expanding on the amnesiac and corporate settings introduced by the game.

Paul WS Anderson hinted at a darker gorier extended cut which sadly hasn't of yet been released. Excellent reaction guys your both great & your reactions always entertain. I played Resident Evil on PS1 way back in 1996 & played every game & remaster since i highly recommend playing them. Barring the mansion, umbrella, zombie dogs & licker this have little in common with the game however the sequels do incorporate those characters into the franchise.

The movie is not all that faithful to the games, however there are several hat tips and Easter eggs from the game. The hive is referenced but never actually shown in the original game. The first game takes place specifically in the mansion with Jill Valentine as the main protagonist. Mila Jovivich is portraying Alice who is the main protagonist of Resident Evil Survivor which takes place during the events of Resident Evil 2 & 3. Although my favorite part is actually the ending scene of her walking through the streets which is directly ripped from the opening of Resident Evil 2 and Survivor.

The reason Umbrella killed all the scientists in the beginning is because they were trying to see how different deaths effect the zombie mutation. A.K.A: can zombies who died from a large fall (elevator) compete after transformation against zombies who died via drowning and were submersed for a period or time, VS zombies who simply died of lack of oxygen, VS dogs, etc. All the staff were exposed after all, and would turn eventually. The whole opening was a ploy from Umbrella to use their workers as test subjects and better understand the transformations possible within their virus. Although this is highly different to the original game story of Resident Evil 1

The large monster they fight throughout the film is actually a standard enemy from the game Resident Evil 2, referred to as a "Licker." In the film, there is only one and it mutates as it eats. In the games, there are MULTIPLE Lickers. Here's how it works. Attack a T-Virus zombie without killing it, it mutates into a faster, clawed red zombie called a Crimson Head. Left alone long enough, those become Lickers. Never happens in-game, although there ARE games that at least explain it.

I believe, and correct me if I'm wrong, Crimson Heads weren't added until the original game was remade with better graphics for the Nintendo Game Cube. Have they made an appearance in any other game since then?

nobody in the comments wants to bring up one of the best aspects of this movie, the Alice in Wonderland parallels? Her name is Alice. The entrance to the underground hive (wonderland) is literally through a looking glass and down a tunnel (rabbit hole) the AI controling the hive is The Red Queen who is physically represented by a young English girl who is meant to resemble the Alice from the storybook. i eat that up lol i think it's so cool

First off, so many actors in this movie are British doing American accents, just a fun fact for ya. But the whole "Why did they make her British?" (in regards to the little British girl AI.) "Well, British people are creepy" as the response, and then a nod as a response to that. That made me laugh so hard. If they're evil, they're German or Russian, if they're evil turned up to 11, they're British. So many tropes, too little time.

There is a stigma attached to these movies by some who are looking for deeper meanings and exquisite craft. That is not what these movies are for. They are just supposed to be fun action, gore, thriller romps, and in that I think they excel. The whole series is worth watching as long as you are not expecting "Children of Men" depth and meaning or "28 Days Later" craftsmanship. They are just fun.
