A better example for hysterical strength of someone similar to Chris. Couple months ago, a Rugby player tackled a bus as he was crossing the street because it didn’t stop before the red light. He cracked open the bus and stopped it whilst it was moving. He literally stopped a bus by tackling it. That is the most Chris Redfield thing I’ve ever heard of.

The guys name is Danny Cipriani. He was drunk and was messing around on the road whilst doing a pub crawl in leeds. No red light, guy was just being a dafty. He messed up that bus pretty bad, alas he still ended up laid out afterwards and had to be taken away on a stretcher. Side note: this happened in april 2013

physically impossible. the buss had it's brakes on, or the story is bullshit a human of any size cannot physically stop a moving buss, force is equal to mass times velocity, the strongest humans can barely inch a buss along from standing with absurd effort, this is known since strongmen do it as a party piece at about 1 mph, multiply that by some normal cruising value for a buss and you have say the strength of 30 strongmen required to stop it, and it's not just about strength either, his bones would shatter from the effort long before the buss gave a shit about what he was doing, you don't just shoulder check an object weighing 2+ tons, moving at any speed, this is a misreported story.

The boulder maybe 30.000 lbs, but the force needed to roll it is not the same as lifting the whole weight and it is on a bit of downward slope. With some data assumption and rough calculation, the rolling force needed to move it from static position is around 3000 pounds of force. Even a strongman, with enough friction, can pull a plane. So according to this theory, Chris pushing the boulder is even more plausible. Also, lady in the story didn't lift the whole car off the ground, just high enough to create space for her son to be pulled free from the wheel arch. Although it's still very impressive for a normal housewife.

About car lifting, the famous wrestler André the giant once got provoked in a bar. Once the attacker realized how unwise it is to piss off a 2,24m professional wrestler called "the giant", he booked it and locked himself in his car. André then flipped the car on its top. With the guy still inside. The current deadlift record is a little over 500kg, and that car could have been something around 3x that much, plus a grown man's bodyweight. Not that it's not very impressive, but there's clearly a massive difference between "lifting a car off two wheels" and "lifting a car off four wheels"

As bizarre as this scene is presented, this is Chris' climax moment, where he punching the rock is not due to a simple show - off In this situation, the stone represents all the obstacles that Chris has encountered so far, being the punches his willpower ... And no matter how big, or how difficult it will be to defeat this obstacle he will do his best to achieve his goal. In case, find your partner, Chris won't tolerate any more loss. But wow, did the writer need to put a rock in it? Yes, certain moments in life, we really need to punch the rock to achieve what we want. So yes
@xeibei4804
@xeibei4804 3 жыл бұрын
That sounds like a dumb explaination of a fan trying to understand what the writer meant with this. Even tho the devs probablly thought "wouldnt it be cool if he punched a rock away?". Its the whole "the blue courtains mean depression" situation all over again.
@KenChanNoodleDAI
@KenChanNoodleDAI 3 жыл бұрын
Whatever the original writers or devs meant to say in that situation is just another interpretation of what happened, which is totally fine and fun. Artistic mediums are just forms of entertainment where everyone’s views and opinions are valid regardless of how different. That’s why they’re so much fun.
@xeibei4804
@xeibei4804 3 жыл бұрын
@Samuel Davidson this had nothing to do with "the world isnt black or white...its GREY". I pointed out that his interpretation is most likely wrong, maybe I shouldnt have used dumb but I never called him a fanboy, I called him a fan wich he probablly is. Fans try often to explain weird stuff and plot holes wich not even the devs thought about.

I like how it’s an in-joke with capcom now. It’s not only canon, but everyone in the series acknowledges the absurdity. The boulder he punched was pumice, a porous and lightweight stone found in volcanic areas. Chris collects rocks as a hobby and recognized it. It also happened to be hollow and filled with helium.. Also the rock was on a slight incline, and the shaking earth below helped him. Also he didn't have to life it, he only needed to push it

I actually think the more impressive feat is how they walk around inside a volcano. I was told that if you fell into an active volcano, the heat and toxic gases could easily kill you or at least make you pass out before you hit the lava. Can they even breathe in there, let alone stand this close to lava without being cooked alive or instantly catching fire?

Not likely. It would be like standing inside of an oven. You ever set an oven high at say, 400* Fahrenheit and open it to get the food out and the heat just pours out? It would be like that. I personally love how they embraced this aspect of Chris in the rest of the series, he is dumb as a bag of bricks, but has a heart of gold. I dont know if this is another homage to the Evil Dead series (franchise is full of them), but it works, while Leon is the pretty boy who always looks cool, Chris is the lovely mass of muscle who is charmingly stupid.

People don't lift entire cars, they tilt them. See the strongman car deadlift for reference. Chris doesn't lift or push the boulder, he rolls it. What you're looking for is the distribution between the force lifted by the lifter and the force lifted by the ground, as well as perhaps a torque applied on an axle like the floor of a car or the radius of the boulder. Strongmen can push and pull cars, which is a direct result of the decrease in friction from the wheels. They would not be able to push a cement block that weighs multiple tonnes.

We should always be thankful for the boulder punching scene, people. Not only is it meme gold, but it was the scene that was the first sign to the RE dev teams at Capcom that something was wrong. It was from here on that they did try to work more horror back into the franchise. The Revelations games (especially 2) are very horror focused and RE6 (as derided as it is) tried to give the game a whole classic horror feeling campaign (Leon's). RE6's problem was that it tried to be everything to every fan of the series.

The Boulder punching was done out of desperation. Pushing wasn’t budging it so punching it was him frantically trying to do anything he could to move it.

i mean, it's possible there were nothing but some loose rocks underneath that boulder, holding it in place; not to mention, it clearly went down a ramp- so, it may not have been him punching the entire boulder, but punching the rock hard enough to loosen whatever was holding it in place, which causes it to roll down that hill; and that's much more believable. (but don't let chris know that :P)

Or, the way the rock is shaped, it would only need a bit of force to force it to tumble due to the shape of it. So even the slightest movement might have only been needed to put it in a rolling motion.
@KenChanNoodleDAI
@KenChanNoodleDAI 3 жыл бұрын
This could also be true but you also have to take into account that only really works if the plane is completely flat and if the rock is perfectly round. Where the rock is inside the volcano, for it to get that size leaves only two possibilities. The first being that it just grew there from thousands of years sitting there, or it fell there from a different part of the volcano. Either way, the ground where the rock is could not be flat instead it would be more like sitting in a concave.
@KaiserTrigger
@KaiserTrigger 3 жыл бұрын
@@KenChanNoodleDAI What I means is that the bottom of the rock might not be entirely flat, and there might be edges/ridges that, with a slight push, will allow gravity to force it to lean forward and start to tumble. Tumbling doesn't require a perfect circle, just as long as there's enough room at the bottom, and then gravity will force it to start moving, as long there's enough of a slope. The ground clearly wasn't flat, so it probably had enough room for gravity to force it, which it's more than likely round enough to tumble somewhat down. It's not a brick, it's still mostly circular in nature. And it also slides instead of tumbles by the end of it's trip into the volcano.

Exactly. The velocity of the rolling is uneven, greatly accelerating, confirming the theory. The punch is used to extort a larger amount of force in short bursts (this is often used in martial arts, you have to minimise the time the muscles are tensioned for the most powerful punch, as opposed to simply pushing where even the strongest muscles can't stay at peak tension for long), and gain extra momentum, to help breach the normal force of rolling (far lesser to that of dragging), once the applied force surpasses it, the body is set in motion and becomes much easier to move from that point, especially when gravity works in your favor. Depending on the density of the rock (which is extremely hard to calculate, since we don't know how porous its inner structure is and have little idea what kind of rock type it's formed of), this is plausible.

Rolling resistance is also different from just raw lifting strength. The relative lightness of the pumice, Chris' physical fitness, adrenaline, and the incline of the floor makes it seem more likely. As to why Chris punched the rock, it was because he imagined it was Wesker at that moment
@quillquail
@quillquail 3 жыл бұрын
My hc was that he was doing it to hype himself up, if that makes sense? Like if you hurt yourself, smashing your knuckles, for example, your body just goes into adrenaline mode. Maybe he was frustrated so he punched the rock and that pain gave him enough adrenaline to push it over.

thank you! listen, when ico-oped RE5 with a friend when it came out, he didnt get why he had to punch the boulder. but it made sence to me because it was an absolute act of desperation. he would lose a partner (something he does not want to happen again at all cost) to wesker (the guy that he absolutely hates and that already "took" one of his partners) yes the boulder punch meme is funny, but idk, kinda made me cringe when heisenberg spurted it out of nowhere, like if he was there lol

The only thing I can think of as too how Chris didn't break his hand is that he used herbs. Herbs are kinda op in this universe like a zombie dog could bite your neck with all its might and if you use a green herb you're fine. Get your ribs broken by a hammer or a melee weapon then just use herbs
