I think RE7 is bad. But then RE8 convinced me. I hated how RE7 felt like you played as mental patients, rather than cops investigating places with horror. But reason i am opening up to RE8 is mainly due to, people making jokes on how RE1 sounded like they had pornstars doing the dialogues. So RE8 has these tall Vampire ladies made by capcom... whether its coincidence or not. That was enough for me to be open to RE8. RE7 was bad i just pretend it never happend to me

I don't think it's Mikami's fault, it was gamers all around the world in 2002 for not buying and supporting Resident Evil Remake on the Gamecube. Yes, due to poor sales, he decided to make an action oriented RE, hence RE4. RE4 gets a lot of love, most of you on here are saying it's the best in the franchise. That's why Capcom left it's survival horror roots. They did it *because* of us.

Resident Evil Remake bombing was purely Mikami's fault. He opted to release it exclusively for the Gamecube, which was a niche console at that time. The Playstation 2 sold gangbusters, eventually reaching over 100 million sales, and should've been the obvious choice for a release, but Mikami hated Sony at that time (he hated the Playstation's hardware), which resulted in no port. He doomed the franchise at that time due to being unable to get over his own ego. Luckily, Capcom were smart enough to release a HD remake of REmake for the Playstation (and XBox) afterwards, and it sold so well that they decided to return the franchise to its roots. They finally heard the people.

I think we have a faction of fans of the OG who played on normal( which was easy mode, and felt action focused as you were given a machine gun or something at the start), and the ones who played it on the actual difficulty it was meant to be played, hard. OG Re 3 was more action, but still is a survival horror game, giving me the thrills REmake 3 could only dream of giving me. Remake 3 was not enjoyable at all on the higher difficulties (hardcore etc), and was like the easy mode of OG nemesis on standard. The people at M2 messed it up completely. They made it an action game with survival horror elements. This looks like the Leon's campaign of Re 6, but you don't have the cool moves nor the proper balancing to make to make it work.

Sure, but it evolved the formula to fit into a modern engine which is a breath of fresh air for the franchise. RE6 might have more diverse content, but RE2 is so well polished and overall just can't be compared to RE6

@@Ninja_Bryden RE 2 remake is heavily influenced by part 6 in many ways. RE 2 remake is a smaller game. RE 6 is a bigger game that had nothing to lean on and took risks. Part 2 remake plays it extra safe to please fans. It could be much better. People these days are hard to please yet easy to manipulate when they only get a taste of what they want. RE 2 remake doesn't even take as many risks as the original groundbreaking title.

Resident Evil 4. I love the fact I can put Ashley in a suit of armor and she can't be killed or kidnapped. And Leon's mobster outfit is badass. Buy the Tommy Gun and put him in that outfit and try reloading a couple times. What he does is awesome.

Wow people have such a narrow view on what constitutes survival horror.Survival horror is not just about being weaponless and completely vulnerable or being in a dark corridor all alone.Even with strong characters and guns,you can still have survival horror.The world is overrun by zombies.That is terrifying and even if you have guns and ammo to fight zombies doesn't make it any less creepy.When you're hugely outnumbered by zombies you are scared (that's horror) and you're fighting for your survival.I am glad that the series has evolved rather than become stagnant to satisfy the nostalgia of fanboys. Survival horror is nowhere near dead and might i say it has never looked this promising.Games like Amnesia,Outlast and even Alan Wake have kept the genre alive.Everything suffers from bandwagon hate,games,movies,singers.Apparently hating has become a new trend.

I actually enjoyed RE6 a bit, but no it's not what most people consider "survival horror". This game never once frightened me or creeped me out in any way, and I doubt it did for many others either. Pretty much everything you said that doesn't constitute a survival horror game is exactly what makes one. Why do you think people are so afraid of Amnesia? You're completely defenseless and all you can do is run away. In Alan Wake, ammo was always pretty darn scarce and the enemies were tough and extremely threatening. In RE6, you're a walking armory virtually all of the time and the enemies really aren't that hard to kill. That's like trying to call Mass Effect a survival horror game because you fight to survive against crazy alien creatures that'd probably scare us if it were real life.

Garrus -Vakarian I haven't finished RE6 but i remember RE5 and i was creeped out by the game many times.In the beginning when a horde of zombies surround the house you and Shiva are in,i remember being scared.Yes it's obviously not as scary as Amnesia or Outlast but it's a different kind of scare. RE6 has plenty of terrifying moments too.It's not always guns blazing action.Even in the action sequences like the giant snake boss fight,you feel this feeling of dread.Watching the world being overrun by chaos and zombies in RE6 is scary to me.It doesn't make me jump off my seat or makes me want to look away but that doesn't mean it's not scary.Horror is not always about being helpless and vulnerable.

To me survival horror is like old school RE and silent hill and games like outlast and amnesia like you said. To many people think games are a survival horror game just cause it has inventory like silent hill or RE. And if the game is a horror game they have to label it survival in their mind for some reason idk why. To me RE stopped being survival horror in RE4, it become action horror at that point. Now that doesn't mean its a bad thing it depends on the execution of it. People bitched that DS3 wasn't a survival horror game anymore, but it never was. The first game was action horror same with 2. It's a third person game with horror elements. Just cause its a horror game doesn't mean its a survival horror game idk why people don't see that.

Well said, IMO RE4 was indeed survival horror evolved, but RE5 was neither. That being said RE6 had both Leon and Ada whose campaigns felt very survival horror no matter what the haters say. The other campaigns in RE6 may not have been survival or horror, but they were still good. RE6 just wanted to please any type of gamer, that is all they were trying to do. Did they succeed? Well for me they did. My personal belief is that RE4 represents the perfect blend of both survival and horror elements, but the gameplay evolved the genre as it was pretty much stuck in a rut at the time. It is in this way I believe TLoU is that next step after RE4 and showed the evolution yet again for the survival horror genre.

RE5 is seriously not even half as bad as everyone makes it to be. The game is a let down, I won't argue that, but it is still a very good game; you can play it, have fun and enjoy the story, which is a good sequel to RE4 and wraps up the entire Wesker madness pretty well. I just finished RE6 and it is a completely different story. I've been playing all the RE these past weeks, and I've never felt so much frustration with any of them like RE6. The game is designed to waste your time with stupid deaths. But apart from being as far away from RE as possible, and the incredibly annoying zombie behavior, the game was still entertaining with pretty decent story. Leon's and Chris' campaign made me question why was I even playing this game in the first place, but Jake and Ada's campaign were pretty good, so really the game is decent. Like Jeremy said, it doesn't deserve the 4s this was getting on release. And btw, I really don't understand why everyone was hating on the whole Wesker Jr thing. Before I played the game I thought it was gonna be something super stupid like Wesker Jr being the villain, but when I found out it was Jake I really liked the idea. Jake is a well written character, and he was honestly the best thing that came out of RE6, but I guess butthurt "fans" will throw shit for anything. I really hope to see more of him in future games.

I felt that, Not only was Wesker's character ruined in re5 with the whole generic world-conquering madman; I also felt that Sheva didn't deserve the honor of killing him since (although Sheva was an ok character) she was a nobody character who only appeared in one game.

I would enjoy it, but the Ai partner puts me off really hard... I'm not much of a multiplayer guy, so I prefer to play alone. RE5 you really need a buddy to play with, which is why I dont care for it.

I agree with your comment seeing that I'm playing RE6 right now as I speak. I usually don't play games when they come out cause I've got so much other stuff to catch up on and ended up playing RE5 a few months ago which I did enjoy, regardless of this guy's comments. I'm trying to give RE6 a chance but find myself getting frustrated every so often with the lack of control over gameplay. I'm still hanging in there, hoping the game will eventually grow on me and I can add it to my library otherwise I'll just end up selling it back to my local GameStop store. P.S. I still have games that I bought years ago still in their original wrapping, hoping to sit down at some point and enjoy them; Tombraider, Max Payne3, BioShock Infinite, FEAR 3, Farcry 2, Metro 2033.....

And a friend of mine and I bought this game together and tried playing it on the hardest difficulty. It is abysmal. The Leon campaign has you shooting zombies in the head anywhere from 1-12 times in the head to kill them, RANDOMLY. The damage is inconsistent, we had died coming out of cut-scenes where zombies continued to move towards us, most of the engagements take places in cramped areas and you feel no sense of control over your own fate. 1/10, buy ANYTHING ELSE.

RE 1 was the scarest one of them all, remake made it better. RE 0 and 2 I think had the best story line and puzzles. RE 3 was good ending of the racoon city and mountains of those 4 games Veronica x I feel is a different game of all and its the middle man of the old games into the new ones RE 4 I feel it was the best of the new generation of RE series. 5 was ok but it didnt have any horror at all; it was all action base. I have 6 but I still havent beaten it because I lost interested in it but it wasnt horrible. im planning on finishing it but I get bored tell you the truth. RE ORC im going to surprise alot but I had fun playing it :) am i upset its action , no horror, offshoot of the RE brand? yes i am upset but if you put that a side i thought it was fun. You have to have the mind set of Gears of war with zombies. If you like gears of war action with zombies with cool abilities, you will have fun with ORC. RE Revelution with Jill I heard gameplay is going back to the old games. I havent played it yet but i'm planning on it. when i finish couple games on my xbox and delete them so i have space to dowload the game

In order to be scary again, the series have to introduce some brand new characters that never experienced a outbreak. No Leon, no Chris, no Jill, etc. It can't be survival horror if you're playing with a well trained professional that know what it's like to be in a outbreak.

maybe its because he doesnt talk shit like some sites. like gamespot for instance. he offers great reviews from his actual real gameplay experience. reviews use to be like this, until companys got bigger and start to just bad mouth anything they dont like be it truth or lies. you dont need gameplay to listen to his experience of the game. you know this guy has played that game, and isnt just reading from a script. reviews use to be like this all the time when gamers gave reviews, so i guess this is what people want and expect for a review. cause i do. this guy is great. id much rather listen to his gameplay experience than see some random parts of the game while someone tells you its not worth playing without offering you any explanation or reasons why. I just picked up RE6 after over a year of refusing to play it after the disappointment of RE5. I must say it's not nearly as bad as everyone makes it out to be. It's definitely not my favorite but it is mildly enjoyable. My favorite RE game is the remake of the original for the Gamecube, closely followed by RE4 and RE Zero. And I have played all games in the main series.

RE 2 is by far my favorite, but I do recognize how good 4 is, but in 2 in hard difficulty you can't shoot the shit out of everyone, you got to be very careful who to shoot and when to shoot making it more tense as your health items are limited as well, the story is also the best one, the characters are all time favorites in the series and the setting is very well made. I still love to play through it all this years later

I played one Chapter in 6 with no ammo and just a knife and I had less frustrating issues than what 5 did.

resident evil 4 was awesome, you could see the area from afar, the enemies reacted to hits on different body parts, it had quiet atmosphere, the bosses wasn't fought on a standing point cause you were free to move and feel helpless like the lake boss were you controlled the boat and it didn't feel scripted, the main character wasn't drunk on steroids, it was scary, it was creative with the infamous opening and introduction to the game "which not a single game even dare to rip off" and finally the look, area and feel was perfect! it was dark and gloomy you felt like you were in dark woods in a village or in a castle plus the lightning effects were clear to see and everything wasn't fucking shining as if it was polished. Re5 was always the same with the sun shining and you didn't feel like you were progressing and more like going from level to level. Re6 is just action and no survival and everything is shining. I haven't played re6 but i heard what this guy said and when he said: Zombies that shoot. I said instantly that Capcom has become EA level of stupid and sucking. SHOOTING ZOMBIES?! action? they make different campaigns just to please different kinds of people but shooting zombies? really? the ONE thing zombies don't is being intelligent. It worked in re4 cause they were parasites and it was crossbows meaning you could shoot the arrows down but giving zombies guns is just as stupid as vapires sparkling. The game is supposed to be horror but the effects make it to dramatic. If they want it to be horror then remove the epic music, take away a lot of the effects, make the levels more mysterious and open and don't shake the camera all the time. Shooting zombies "sigh" why.

I can def. agree with 90% of those scores. I'm with you though, I'd like to know what the hell Capcom (who is supposedly going BANKRUPT with around 150mil in the bank) was thinking. They traded off the original series play style and atmosphere to do what 99.9% of every game does now *eventually*, it gets dumbed down so "Little Johnny Pisshead" will be interested too. Donnie Qualls RE4 was a action game down to the core but it's smart enemy design and level lay out was spot on.. and the gameplay was good and clean. RE5 is just like RE4... but a few things that killed it... "AI partner" "Zombies with guns" "Chris Redfield" and "no spooky enemies or levels" ... But RE5 is a great over the shoulder shooter... but that's it. RE6 is nothing like RE4 or RE6 "dumb AI" "very poor enemy design" "even more poor level layout" "awful gameplay design and layout" and "poor story" Resident Evil just needs a reboot just like Tomb Raider did... cause the story and game has gotten out of hand... will be looked at as nothing more then a number 2 action over the shoulder shooter... when you can go for number 1s shoulder shooters like. Last of Us Dead Space Uncharted inFAMOUS Metal Gear Solid all games with over the shoulder shoting... but even bigger and deeper gameplay and story

At first I thought you were only ranking the RE games with numbers in their titles, but you mentioned Revelations, so I guess you ranked by the RE games you have played, which is to say that you left out one of the better titles: Resident Evil Code: Veronica. Imo, Code: Veronica ranks up there with RE1 & 2 :)

It's not survival/ horror because the characters aren't trying to survive and they are not scared of the bioweapons anymore. Just like Dead Space 3 is not survival/horror. Having the same character in multiple games be scared of things they are seeking to eliminate is an idiotic premise. Survival/Horror only works as intended with a new character. Jake's campaign could have been but he was paired with Sherry... so no dice. Resident Evil is not a Survival/Horror franchise. It started that way and evolved for their story and characters. RE 7 was major steps backwards just to "revive" the survival/horror. Too much ammo, too much healing items, not scarey cuz country folk ain't scarey, and just a massive let down for a new character who was emotionless and dull.

***** As for the story: Saddler kidnaps Ashley, infects her and wants to send her back to kill or infect the President but during game Saddler is totally preventing that Ashley goes back to America, he even was stupid enough to spoil his entire plan and the existence of Las Plagas to Leon. It just didn't make sence and sounds more like a Power Rangers or Super Mario story than a RE plot. It doesn't even show much character development, most were just generic "Ok this is the evil who just does evil things. And this over here is the good one who just acts cool and says how evil the evil ones are". Well, there were a few exceptions. As for fun, yes the game is a lot of fun with nice gameplay and some scary moments but that's about it. Anyway, RE5 did worse when it comes to the plot.

The original is still my favourite. I love the atmosphere above all else - not as terrifying as Silent Hill, but firmly creepy and feels like you're playing a George A Romero zombie movie. Yes, if it was a movie, it'd probably be better acted, but I LOVE the corny acting / writing in RE1. It always gets a laugh from me and is the perfect way to break up the mood of the game, so that the creepy atmosphere doesn't wear out its welcome. That contrast between creepy and campy is what makes Resident Evil 1, for the original Playstation, my absolute favourite RE game.

Obviously I have played 5 and 6, years later on PS4 and loved them. But I still don't like 4, however one thing has changed. I absolutely hate RE Revolution's, that game is such a load of shit. An yh sorry but 7 and 8 are not proper Resident evil game, neither should be called Resident evil. 7 should be called the family, and 8 should be called the family 2 the village hahaha. I don't know what the hell capcom are going for here, but I'm not happy with the direction their going in. They should merge the survival aspects of MGS3 with Resident Evil... scarce ammo, need to find food and water, need to find places to rest, might break something dropping off a ledge, might get a deep cut diving through a window. Stuff like that. Maybe add some sneaking aspect to the game as well, maybe if you are bleeding and upwind of a zombie he can smell you and gets agitated? Have a backpack which can store a certain weight in certain pockets which you can swap with other backpacks you find if you are lucky. Have weight effect movement, have equipment like an RPG and customizable equipment, a safehouse, stuff like that. Maybe set it in Raccoon City during RE2 and you create a survivor during those events? Maybe add a co-op mode where you form a band of survivors like a clan in FPS's? Games are giving players choices like this and realism like this and I think Resident Evil could really benefit from that and it would bring it back to survival Horror.

The game is honestly awesome if you go into it knowing it's an action game and not horror. There are some parts that I found annoying (mainly the game automatically changing your camera angle during the escape during chapter 5 of Chris' campaign) but it was mostly pretty solid overall.

Leon's section was my favorite I does feel a bit like RE4. I played it the whole way on co-op, it was pretty good. had some cool sections where you are separated from your friend, those were good too. The game is worth it if you play it with someone else

I actually liked 5 and really hated 6. However, I didn't have to deal with AI in 5, my husband and I played it completely together, so if the AI was really that bad I can see how some people would absolutely hate it. That being said, we didn't even finish 6. The campaigns were just too short to get invested into the story/plot/characters. If they'd been longer I think it would have been a lot more fun.
