The first one comes close to being a good movie, with Phyllis or Ally, or whatever her name was. Completely agree. We do NOT need video game movie adaptations. We've got the games themselves. Especially for RE2. Look at whether you're playing the 1998 original on the n64/ps1(yes, there were 2 different versions of RE2, on 2 different consoles, the n64 port was ironically the better port), or the RE2 Remake, where both Leon and Claire are given more character development, along with their partner characters, Sherry and Ada. Plus, Ada looks better in HD than she did back in 1998, no joke. But I agree, dude/lady. We don't need game movie adaptations. Especially if they're just lazier and dumbed down versions of the game's plots. And especially if the film's director is an ass who actually changed Leon's ethnicity ON purpose, to INTENTIONALLY piss people off, and intentionally made him incompetent, out of spite and hatred. No really, he legitimately ruined Leon's character from the games to make this pile of dogshit. He also made Claire a conspiracy theorist, even though she's never been like that in any RE game, at all. Also, this version of Claire looks like she's in her early 40's, when she's supposed to be a college age student(19), in RE2, looking for her older brother Chris, who was 25 when the original RE Mansion Incident happened. Wesker was 38, the same age as Barry Burton, Leon was 21, and had literally just joined the RPD because he was interested in the bizarre hunting incidents that were happening in Raccoon City, and had just graduated from the police academy. The reason he was late for his official first day was because he was partying in a motel the previous night, trying to get over the pain of having to break up with his girlfriend, and overslept the previous day. But if he hadn't done that, who knows? Maybe Leon would've been infected like the rest of the unlucky people in Raccoon City? But the backstory I just explained to you is verbatim from the RE Archive book I've owned since 2005, which goes through the first 4 RE games, and explains all the characters themselves who've shown up since RE0 to RE:CV. But at least it explains them well. This movie just looks and feels incompetent. Like a rookie on their first day, trying and failing to show that they're suitable for the job, only, this movie just f**ks around INTENTIONALLY, and although it adds some things from the first 2 RE games, there's no reason to watch this, when we have the Remakes of RE1 and 2. Which tell the stories that this movie attempts and fails at. Even the CGI RE movies are better movies, and the RE games do a much better job telling us who these characters are, their backgrounds, their birthdays, ages, personalities, even their middle names, like for example, Leon's middle name is Scott. And he's always protective of women, and has a thing for Ada Wong. Even in the remake. His look and even his name were both inspired by Leonardo DiCaprio. No joke. You see? That whole story I just told you about Leon Scott Kennedy, does more to explain who he is as a character and his personality is better explained, than some awful movie, directed by someone who I guarantee has never even TOUCHED a controller or played an RE game in their life, just saw dollar signs whenever they brought up the name to him. Sorry if I sound angrier than I intended, but I'm just somewhat passionate about this series, and Leon is my favorite RE character, and RE2 and it's remake, along with RE4 are my favorite RE games. Mainly because of Leon. But you're right. We thankfully live in a world where games give us the same experience we'd see in a movie, whether that's intended or not. Sorry also if this message is too long as well. But I do fully agree with you, and Jeremy. Plus, if anyone should be playing live action Leon S. Kennedy, It's Jeremy himself. He's got the look down, he just needs a stylish police outfit, and a gun.

Exactly! The remake was a perfect modern blend of movie level cinematics and gameplay! We have reached a level where games ARE interactive movies, where games do themselves as movies miles better than actual movies could ever hope to! We don’t need movie adaptations anymore. This one image pretty much sums up my impressions of how Johannes Roberts approached making this adaptation. In one recently released interview clip, Roberts admitted that he went back and forth between including a Tyrant in the film. But then he chose not to, claiming he could not make it “tonally fit”? Roberts went on to say that he decided to have an Easter egg in place of that, where viewers can see a severed Tyrant’s head in the background of Birkin’s lab. Yet, he also admits that he could not shoot the scene, in a way that made his intended Easter egg easily visible. So in other words, an essential part of the source material’s story, characters, and world-building, which many fans want to see in its full glory, gets decapitated and turned into glorified superficial set-dressing. And it is not even something you can easily spot, without working hard to look for it. I think that seems to be a perfect visual analogy for the rest of the film’s approach to adapting Resident Evil.

I was a huge RE fan when I was young. I was SO hyped for the original RE movie when it came out, and I ended up being really disappointed at the matrix-style action movie we were all given. I liked the RE games because they were horror games, and what I saw in theatres years ago was decidedly not a horror movie. I was pretty disappointed. I watched this film last night. It's like most video game movies: the acting isn't the best, it seems to have been done on a pretty low budget, the pacing and dialogue are odd. Pretty standard for a movie based on a video game. What I DID enjoy was that this film mirrored what I had imagined a RE movie looking like back in the day, before Paul W.S. Anderson got ahold of the IP. Will I watch it again? Probably not. But I appreciate that the filmmakers wanted to make something a little closer to the source material. I don't regret seeing it.

" *zombie looking woman spells words in blood on the door window. Her zombie son burst throug the front door and is crawling on the floor* "do you need help :l ?" "man ingulfed in flames walks into building infront of leon and gets shot dead* "what the... :l" like i know theyre in a game and arent real people. but they are supposed talk and show emotions, realistic ones. not to mention it felt there was no real narrative to the movie other than "ok lets leave the city" kinda felt like they expected people to know the narrative before watching the movie. like everyone thats watching is supposed to play the game THEN watch this. which is really not good. some parts were fine, liked that the spencer mansion moments were very much like the game and acc scary in some parts. but the movie made all the game characters unable to think for themselves or like a normal person and were emotionless zombies themselves tbh with no real motive other than lets leave. ULTIMATELY this movie has surprisingly made me like the original Paul Anderson movies more in comparison now because they made something that wasnt too heavily based on the game. and acc have its own narrative, or at least have a story narrative.

@@jenniferstevenson7180 Makes sense, I guess. I think the games themselves did it well, by showing Leon can be vulnerable, and is forced to grow from rookie to hero, and shows what kind of a cop he WOULD have been, had the zombie apocalypse not broken out in the city. He's forced to grow as a person and cop, and show off his character and vulnerable sides to the surviving people, Ada, Claire, Ben Bertolucci(the reporter who locked himself up because he predicted the T-Virus leaking out and locked himself up to get more information about what was happening), and it does mention in his character bio, that he's always faithful to women, makes the protection of Claire and Sherry his main priority, says although he had little practical experience, he makes up for it with his youth and abilities(he's 21 during the Raccoon City Incident), and there's very little that actually frightens him. His bio also mentions he's got a strong sense of justice, and burns with the pride of being a policeman, and throws all his efforts into rescuing fragile survivors, and became interested in the bizarre hunting incidents that were happening in Raccoon City, so he applied for a position in the RPD. His first day of work was supposed to be September 29th, but overslept because he'd been partying the previous night, trying to get over the breakup with his girlfriend, and spent the previous night partying in a motel, but because he did that, it ironically saved his life, because he'd been saved from the zombies and saved from most likely being a living corpse or the insane police chief hunting down and killing the survivors himself. And he also met Claire on the road this way, and decided to make the protection of Claire Redfield and Sherry Birkin his main focus. He was unhappy about her making her own decisions(probably because of the whole city full of zombies eating people's faces thing), and while searching for an escape route, he became aware of Umbrella's evil secret plot, and threw himself into a long battle against them(I'm directly quoting his bio from the RE Archive here), and it mentions that Leon's actions are because he was in love with Ada Wong, true story. She was aligned with Albert Wesker to steal the G-Virus. Then, as a result of her "death"(spoiler here, Ada's not actually dead), his fighting spirit is rekindled, and he swears to take revenge against Umbrella, for apparently stealing his love from him(that's legitimately how they wrote his character bio, I'm not writing it this way to sound corny or anything, Leon's my favorite RE character, no joke). And after escaping Raccoon City, he saw Claire off, who didn't find her brother in the City, obviously, and she continued her search to find Chris. Leon asked the U.S Army, who were now deployed outside the city to protect Sherry. After he contacted an intelligence officer working for the US government, he began to investigate Umbrella by himself. Then, when he learned Claire was in danger, on Rockfort Island, he relayed that info to her older brother, Chris. When Leon asked the army to protect Sherry, they only did it because they wanted to use her for themselves. Leon was literally forced to become a government agent to secure Claire and Sherry's protection. That's how we get to the events of RE4. But, in-between RE4, we get the Umbrella and Darkside Chronicles, where Leon meets Jack Krauser, a character from RE4. And Leon learns Claire's in danger, during the events of RE: Code Veronica, and tells her brother Chris about this. CV happens before RE4. Sorry for the wall of text, but that's the current whole story for Leon, from 2 to 4. I'm sure you don't care what happened to the guy from 6 and beyond, because nobody liked 6. And the rest of the things that happen to Leon are the CG movies, which I don't know which ones Leon's in, sorry. But there's just a lot to mention at once. Sorry if this is too much, ma'am. I do agree that the games, both the remake and original RE2, as well as 4, do show Leon, going from 0 to hero. He's more of the jack-of-all-trades type of protagonist, but the live action movies don't seem to get that part of Leon's personality right. Something only the games know how to do right, apparently.

@@shawnfields2369Leon is my absolute favorite character in the series, and that's why this buffoonery upset me. Leon is an amazing character who, despite being naive and ingenuous, was bright and skilled. I've been following the series closely since I began playing 15 years ago, and I've always appreciated Leon's tough and witty but compassionate character. The movie didn't need to ridicule Leon to show his evolution and vulnerability. The games did a good job of doing that by putting him in situations that forced him to grow and develop as a fighter and a man. I'm thoroughly disgusted with Roberts' take on Leon and the franchise as a whole. Btw, unpopular opinion though it may be, I love RE6.

In my opinion of what to make it works is: just make it like suspense horror movie (28 Days Later), where the protagonist struggle to find a way out.. and it should be a slow pacing film, minimum action, right amounts of jumpscares, feels of isolations, and good actings… neverminds the right or not of how Leon looks is.

i sometimes like the fact that they mashed the first game and the second. i also like the fact that they incorporated their own unique thinking. but in some cases, that doesn’t work out too. i sometimes wish that they separated the first game and the second. because it makes much more sense. and the movie felt so rush for me because of the brief span of time they had. resident evil 1 & 2 by itself is a long story already so having it all in one movie is too much. maybe if they split it two parts it would’ve been better or made the movie 2 and a half hours to get extra time for each character and storyline. and kind of the biggest issue for me, is the change of personality and looks of the characters. which is hard because the franchise is so big that it’s hard to adjust to the differences of the movie and the original. and with that issue, the relationships are so different. but i would say that if a horror fan and you’re not a fan of the original game series then you’d like it. lastly, if someone knows, why did they cancel ada?

Leon being a complete idiot literally made me cry in the theater.
@shawnfields23692 жыл бұрын
Hey, It's ok, dude/lady, I would've cried too, and I'll cry with you if nobody else will. Because Leon Scott Kennedy is my favorite RE character, and has been since his first appearance in RE2(the original, not just the remake, although that is great too). Leon is the perfect RE protagonist, and just kept getting cooler and better with each game. Even RE6(even if you, like the majority of the world, hate 6, at least Leon looked cool in that game, still had the cool jacket, cool hair style, and cool voice and personality, and best story in 6). And when I literally sat down for 5 minutes to see the awful, cheaply produced, direct-to-DVD style editing of the trailer, I knew it would be a crapfest of a movie. I knew it would suck. It's not that hard to see, but still. I was a bit hyped up, hoping they'd fix some of these errors before launch, but down in my heart, my gut, I knew that they wouldn't, and that this movie was going to straight up SUCK some serious s**t. Seriously, as a longtime and hardcore fan of this series, ever since the original RE 2 on the n64, playing it as a kid, with my dad, it was the first horror game I'd ever played. Something about the box art just made me want to play it. I loved every second of it. Plus, seeing how cool and brave Leon was, was something I wanted to be like. Also, the reason he was late to his first day of work on September 29th, was the fact that he'd been partying the previous day, in a motel, trying to get over the pain of breaking up with his girlfriend, and overslept. That's legitimately his reason for being late. Taken straight from the RE Archive book I've owned since 2005. But it also states that that mistake might've saved his life from being a zombie. He also didn't leave for work until sunset as well. He was only 21 at the time of the Raccoon City Incident. How hard is it to properly adapt Leon Scott Kennedy's character from game to movies correctly? Paul W.S. Anderson failed at this, and now whoever the director/producer/writer/actors, shoot, you can even add the craft services of this crapshoot to the list as well. Paul Anderson did get Leon's look right in his crap movies, and the hairstyle, but got his personality wrong, because he literally swapped it with another character, for seemingly no reason. Why can't they adapt Leon's character correctly in a movie? It's not impossible to do. Guess only the games know how to do it right. As usual, Jeremy's right. The RE2 remake, original, and definitely RE4 and 6 gave us the true portrayal of Leon we all THOUGHT we needed to look for, high and low, when the REAL answer to how we could find a seriously awesome portrayal of Leon Kennedy was right in front of us the whole frigging time. Especially if you've ever played RE4. Sorry if this is a bit too long of a message. I just really enjoy RE and it's my favorite horror game series, and Leon is my favorite RE character.
