This video consistently cracks me up how much Brad struggles, because the game's design intends for you to head upstairs with that scorpion key gotten early in the basement which allows you to get the shotgun, and then return to the basementwith that, which then makes clearing the many molded around the boiler room easy. That room is mean to tell you "damn, I need more firepower" but poor Brad keeps trying it with the peashooter and not enough ammo he has.

Save your ammo and collect coins because they are for a shop for upgrades and guns and when you get grenades and big damage guns save them for boss fights please like this so brad knows and save the item finders till after a boss fight
