I love this chick's narration. And before she even mentioned it I kind of had a feeling that old lady symbolize Baba Yaga. I'm not sure about everyone else, but what I like about REs take at horror is that it doesn rely on paranormal ghost attempts at horror. We know at the end of the day, a virus is involved, bioterror is involved, and Re2 remake managed to remind us how scary it can be without being Outlast or being so heavy in action. So this "witch" stuff has be worried. But the werewolf looking monstrosity does look promising.

When I was little, my mom used to read me bed-time stories, most if not all were classic Russian / Slavic tales. Baba Yaga was a recurring character, in fact, just now I managed to find Vasilisa Prekrasnaya tale in my library (it says it cost 0.80₽, 1989), so allow me to clarify: when Vasilisa returns with the skull, enters the hut, the skull's eyes see the stepmother and her daughters, and follows them wherever they try to run and hide, in vain, as the skulls' eyes light up so much that everything they look at lights on fire, fire that persists, that can't be taken out, until it burns its pray to ashes. Generally, the images in these tales were so well-drawn and at times so gruesome / horrifying, that I'm not at all surprised I was afraid of the dark. To add to that they well read to me in a dacha, in the forest deep. I'm from the Baltics, with some Russian roots. Thank You for the Analysis, truly in-depth.

Maybe she is actually Baba Dochia, the most important Baba in the romanian folklore. Symbolically in our folklore, she represents the Previous Year which will be defeated in a difficult and fierce competition by the New Year. The days associated with Baba Dochia are the last days before Spring kicks in and this represents the last battle between Spring and Winter. You can clearly see snow in this game, so you know it's winter. After this battle ends and Baba Dochia dies, beautiful weather arrives and the days start to get longer, which signals that Spring has arrived.

I almost wish I could have been on the design team; but so far, it seems like my buddies' have gotten everything just about right... 9 foot tall Floy is the absolute COOLEST morphing-faced villain of all time. Great insight once again! 👍 But I'm still thinking the supernatural/occult elements are there to throw you off. Much like most of re4, it's basically a front for the bioweapon research that was really being conducted, & the intimidation of a cult was enough to subdue those who weren't yet infected (as it appears the old guy with the shotgun in the trailer & the guy living underground in rev2 aren't). Plus, didn't Alex control most of the people on her island through fear, infected or not, they still referred to her as a "witch" & revered her.
