In the case of the fully auto 1911, I think the devs got confused with old terminology. At the time of the start self-reloading pistols, these guns were labeled “fully automatic” because they automatically fed another cartridge into the chamber and pulled the hammer back, ready for another shot. Nowadays we use the term “semi-automatic” to describe such action

One of the things I love about RE8 was pointed out to me by a buddy of mine from the army. Watch Ethan's reload animations between 7 and 8. In 7, Ethan would release a mag and let it drop to the floor like almost every shooter out there. He'll even grab the fresh magazine after he drops the previous one. In 8, Ethan's had a bit of training. First is when changes mags. He'll already have the fresh one in hand. Second thing, he saves magazines the still have rounds in them instead of dropping them on the ground. He'll swap the magazines with the same hand. And you'll notice that as you ammo reserves deplete, you're not getting a full magazine if you swapped out a half-spent mag and haven't picked up any ammo yet. Third thing, Ethan isn't as awkward with firearms as he was in 7. General reload is faster and his grip is good. You can see it when he's aiming, too.

Small correction, he _looks_ to retain the magazine. You can actually hear them clatter the the ground just after they leave the frame. I've noticed that in a lot of newer games, they put all that effort into making sure that the animation is a retention reload to explain away the lack of magazines laying around, but they keep the clattering of the magazine hitting the ground. A few of them even just drop the magazine in the last few frames instead of stowing it.

The rubberbands are commonly referred to in Military circles as "Rangerbands", and their purpose is in the case of the one on the vertical grip, to help hold the pressure switch in place, and in the case of the stock, as a way to fold and secure your sling to keep it out of the way when your rifle is not slung.

Hey Jonathan. Love the videos as always. Perhaps one explanation for the odd decorated weapons (M79 being our chief culprit) would be that RE:Village takes place in a town that is seemingly under the control of an old-ish "Royal" dynasty, or at least, folks who like to pretend to be "Royal". Anyways, it's not secret that Monarchs loved lavishly decorated show piece weapons, and that tradition carried itself from swords and into Firearms. The Gunsmith you deal with in the game perhaps serves (or did serve) these "Royals" as the modern equivalent to a Master Blacksmith. That could perhaps go on to explain some of the stranger weapons in the game.
@stevebutters3063 жыл бұрын
The band around the stock is a nod to the "ranger sling" technique, where you bunch your rifle sling up and tie it down to the stock with a rubber band so it doesn't get in the way. When you need the sling, just give it a yank and it'll pull free from the rubber band. Interesting touch.

The "fully automatic" statement for the M1911 was a joke referring back to RE: Code Veronica, where a character asks the heroine to trade him "something fully automatic" for a set of luger pistols he has that she needs. The guns that she gives him are in reality not fully automatic pistols (although for the purposes of the game they are lol) Since that line, it's kind of been a running gag in RE games for a character to describe a gun as "fully automatic" to indicate that it's really powerful when they don't know what they're talking about XD

Funny thing is that everybody understands drawbacks of gyrojet and almost everybody heard of it in one form or another, but apparently very few people realize that gyrojet is the ammo, not the gun. So nothing(except patent rights and high initial investment) stops one from developing two stage munitions similar with active-reactive artillery shells where prime charge works as normal firearm and shell engages its rocket motor right before leaving the barrel. Basically bolters from 40k in all their glory... which was plagiarized straight from Deathworld novel down to the .75 caliber itself:D

8:16 in context the reddot upgrades make a bit more sense. the RE8 combat system, as you dial in your aim the shot does more damage, so a red dot helping you dial in your aim faster would improve rate of critical shots and with more critical shots, you have a higher damage average. so while the optic isn't directly modifying the guns functions, it does modify how effectively the player can use it.

Just a note: He mistakenly refers to the pump shotgun as a "Winchester 870" however it is a Remington 870. The "W" in the designation, "W870 Tac" is likely referring to the "Wingmaster" line of 870's which are the higher-end versions geared towards bird hunters. It is an odd choice to make a Wingmaster into a tactical shotgun, but I have seen it done before. I am surprised he did not tear apart the Wolfsbane revolver. Granted, it does look cool at first glance, however the design makes no sense. It is clearly a center-fire weapon which uses modern ammunition, fed into the cylinder using a loading gate on the right-side, just like any standard single-action revolver. For some unknown reason, it has a blackpowder revolver's loading lever underneath the barrel. Also in the reloading animation, each spent cartridge easily falls out as Ethan rotates the cylinder and replaces them with fresh rounds. In real life, brass expands after the round is fired and typically you have to use the built-in ejector rod to push spent cartridges out of each chamber. There is no ejector rod in this design. The only revolver I have seen in my life that comes close to this, would be the Ruger "Old Army" single-action blackpowder revolver. With that one, you can purchase a conversion cylinder to fire modern cartridges. That's the only way I could see having a loading lever while using modern ammo.
@sarcasmenul3 жыл бұрын
You know your stuff, interesting read thank you
@TheEchelon16193 жыл бұрын
There were a ton of cartridge conversions for old colt navy's and such running around the time period using centerfire but mostly the more popular and cheaper rimfire cartridges. It's not that unusual. The loading lever was just never removed for whatever reason could be many. The only inaccurate parts is the ejection.
@HanSolo__3 жыл бұрын
You can even find a muzzle-loaded Colt SAA replica with a case ejector in this place. So it is the other way around. Resetting an open frame Dragoon to use cartridges filled with a black powder - yup. Not only a conversion kit for the use of the bp-filled cases but smokeless powder ammo as well. Changing the cylinder would allow shooting magnum-fed Dragoon.
@doublebrewski18553 жыл бұрын
@@TheEchelon1619 Thanks for the input, however I guess the major oddity that I was really focusing on was the fact that the frame had a built in loading gate. You would not see that in a converted black powder revolver. I should have made myself more clear.
@TheEchelon16193 жыл бұрын
@@doublebrewski1855 Ah. About the loading gate dilemma. Actually Colt (albeit I might be mistaking this with Remington I forget) did some kind of cut into the loading gate of cartridge conversions and sold those as "deluxe versions" so it wouldn't actually be unusual to have the loading gate still on the revolver. However, anyone that can afford that nice of a damascene on the gun can afford the extra cut on the loading gate. The revolver is "unusual" but not improbable.
