Resident Evil: Dead Aim Review | 2003: The Game

Resident Evil Dead Aim is very much a product of its time (2003), and I'm all for it.
The final title in the Gun Survivor series, Resident Evil: Dead Aim was released in 2003 for the PlayStation 2.
Like Resident Evil survivor, Dead Aim is not what I'd call a good title, but it's got this goofy charm about it that I can't help but enjoy. It's very much a game of its time. There's something about it that screams "2003", the year it was released.

Dead Aim is a title of a series in transition, moving away from the classic style of Resident Evil, towards how Resident Evil 4 would shape the future of the series. It's a pit stop between the two styles. Dead Aim is not an essential title to check out in the series, but you could do worse. It has its moments and merits. I would say this game suffered from having a lack of characters. If there are no characters dying in a space that they cannot escape from. It will lack those tense moments aside from the satellite laser. Luckily Resident Evil Revelations 1 handled being trapped at sea better with Rachel getting ambushed setting the tone.

The part in the 1st cutscene after Fong Ling threw a grenade and Bruce tried to tell Morpheus then he smirked, not believing, but still turned to look and turned back to look at Bruce again with surprised Pikachu face. That part stuck in my head all these years for some reason. Also, playing with gun controller with d-pad was quite fun.

First comment and it`s a bot. I`d rather go back to the time when people just commented 1st. That was a simpler time. On to the game itself. This is my favourite game out of the entire series. I used to play the shit out of it everyday, trying to speedrun it. I also had a huge crush on Fong Ling, more so than Ada. This game does have it`s flaws but it did`nt matter I just really enjoyed it. Also regarding the main antagonist of the game, it was very progress for it`s time, even today it`s kinda amazing what they acheived considering the time and country it was developed in. Thank you for doing a review on it.

Do you see what I mean by, even atmospherically, this game feels so...off? It really isn't just the music, although it is another factor. Dead Aim feels like it isn't your standard B-movie romp that Resident Evil always was. It is drenched in this almost uncomfortable, bizarre nostalgia that is similar to Drakengard 1. Cavia had a knack for making some really strange games, which is why I think people are paying more attention to it as time goes on. While certainly not the best by Resident Evil standards, similar to Drakengard, people look back on it somewhat fondly because of how weird and unique it was. Sometimes an arguably bad game can be more remarkable and noteworthy than an average one, because they are more likely to takes risks and be transgressive.

You know, if they ever did decide to do a remake of this game (as wishful finking as it might sound), they could always try to give a bit more to Bruce and Fong Ling, to help them stad out from Leon and Ada. Like Fong Ling being more cold, calculated and no nonsense, with the odd sarcastic edge to her, whereas Bruce's wise-cracking behaviour could have more of a bumbling and in-over-his-head vibe, akin to Ash from the Evil Dead series. Just kind of figured if they were to think about remaking this game, they could very well at least give something more to stand out, with the two main protagonists.

With the amount of subtitle mistakes, I wouldn't be surprised if Morpheus going from man to woman was actually a mistake on the localization side of the development. They probably voiced over the scenes one by one chronologically, so when they got to Morpheus parts, they just assumed he was a man because of his height and stature compared to Bruce. So they hired an actor to do a "sexy accent" to suit the feminine face and did all his scenes in one go... So when they got to the booby Tyrant Form scene they had to make sense of it in some way.

I miss the old day's spending all night on this game and at this time it was terrifying me so much in winter under the blanket and enjoying this misterpeace My frist time playing this game since 2015 i was 12years old And this graphic it was so realistic to me and if you looked today at this graphic you will loved it because how it so strong and we can say still can holdup to today I loved how the game give you the The feeling of fear of what you will face and the feeling of suffocation until you find a spacious room, and this is the safe room i liked the darke atmosphere it's so fantastic and the light's effect make it so realistic I'm sure it was deep time back in the day I loved the one place that the game sory going on it but it's not the frist one i know revelation 1 did it too and another old game but it the best one showed us the ship I loved nah not me everybody heard about this game loved the music of it it's different than the other's specially the safe room ost and the intro I loved the boss's the white woman and the biggest shit at the end of the game that's the tow all what i can remember how it was creepy moments to me when it appear on the screen Also i hated that frog's that used to be a Frist boss's in the game I loved the classic status bar I really miss this game But it's even better than those day's resident evil game's (8,5,6,r,r2) I don't know why it's not famous game maybee becuse it's gun survivor or becuse Japan or capcom didn't cared much about this game And i hate thing about this game That it too short and have a bad voice acting and we couldn't seen it again

i like this game, alongside Outbreak 1 and 2 it filled a void in the times between RE3 and 4 (i didn't played REmake and Zero until much later when i got a Wii) i agree in everything you said, it's just cheesy fun Also something that i hadn't noticed before: the character models, the heavy contrasts and color saturation, the bed eyes and lip bite.....was the CGI cutscenes made by the same team that created Ridge Racer Type 4 Intro?

I don't know why but I just love this game I've made a habit of diving into all the mainline and spinoffs of resident evil along with comics and novelizations because I can't get enough of this universe I've been a fan since I was a young boyo and after playing dead aim for the first time about half a year ago I fell into the world even tho the writing in the grand scheme of things is non canon which I don't mind as making the game canon would cause complications for the franchise I still find the music jaw dropping and the two main characters fun along with the gameplay being decent for what it is not overly amazing but definitely fun the monsters and bosses are actually quite fun and I had a blast playing the game overall way to short tho but as a small side project within the grand scheme of things it's actually really neat and definitely a good experience definitely not for everyone tho but I liked the game for what it was

I love your stuff boulder, but I'm still gonna give you shit for not playing this game with a mouse or lightgun. Sensitivity is a little off at first eith the mouse by default, but it's rather intuitive the more you play. Of course, a lightgun is the ideal way of playing this game. I find the dual loghtgun/mouse and controller system for the game to be very forward thinking and shades of old Capcom where quality was king and is still underused.
