@@baronvonslambert Technically I'd say REmake looks better than RE4 despite being the same age even with the fantastic HD project retexture by Chris and Albert (yes that's the modders actual names it's awesome) it kinda makes me wish someone would try the same idea now with modern tech cause you could probably get full on photo real with it like have a photo real looking background with baked lighting then have a super simplified 3d model underneath that gets a ray tracing path that effects any non static props and the character model which would also be as photo real as possible. Considering how real games are looking with fully rendered 3d environments just imagine how good the prerendered idea could look now.

Dreamlike is a pretty good word to describe RE1's atmosphere, I find. I do enjoy it on it's own merits. I am sure they were, just interesting to see someone else mention it.

It also fits narratively rather well. The entire mansion is a front, not a real lived environment, so it makes sense if it feels sterile or somehow souless. If depicted that way, it works as environmental foreshadowing, like "something isn't right here, and I am not talking about the weird puzzle lock mechanisms and the strange undead creatures, there is even more hidden" vibe, which is exactly the case.

I dont think 60 frames per second makes a better game. But what DOES impress me the most is the level of absurd detail in REmake. The most wonderful thing about this remake is that it's absolutely not reductive to the original at all, unless you count the cheese. RE3 being retooled into a linear AAAish modern game experience while getting rid of it's iconic features (live selection, the clock tower) rubbed me the really wrong way, but here they didn't remove a thing but expanded (and shuffled) almost everything that was in the original while also becoming a unique experience on its own, not just the same RE1 but with prettier backdrops.

Glad you like Remake. It is still my favorite RE game in the franchise. Gonna add something you might not have known(or maybe you do) and mention how I feel about 2 Remake. For the little bit of info you might not have known, I believe another way to deal with zombies in this game besides shooting off the head or burning is to shoot of one of their legs. Something I believe is rare, but possible from the stairs. Now a little bit of my perspective on 2 Remake if anyone wants to read it: I saw the announcement image of the Resident Evil 2 Remake back before I moved out of my homestate at least 5 to 6 years ago. Knowing what all Remake 1 did with preservation and improvement and knowing about Original Resident Evil 2's complicated development story made feel like the sky was the limit. I felt we could possibly see a little unlockable Elza Walker mode, or maybe even a nod to some of the content that was originally meant to be. Looking back now, this was unrealistic expectations. I still love 2 Remake as a game, but feel it falls flat on its face a little as a remake. The removal of the Crows and Spiders still confuses me to this day when in Remake 1 they were happy to not only keep those 2 enemies, but even keep and improve the sharks. Also I feel 2 remake missed opportunity of Claire and Leon not being able to communicate with each other throughout the story. I also miss the subtle creepiness of Chief Irons in the original.

I disagree with the notion that REmake replaces the original RE1. I think it's on the same realm as something like Yakuza 0, as in it being a prequel, with a ton of nods to the rest of the series than an actual starting point. The original RE1 may be the same story, but it actually plays out different enough that makes it worth experiencing as well, and its version of the story is what the sequels actually build on. I think REmake is the superior game, but in no way it means it's THE one anyone should play. I think both of them are worth experiencing all the same.

To be fair about Remake and it's sales, RE4 didn't have all that good of sales either... when they were both Gamecube Exclusives. For the Gamecube, the Remake sold for 1,350,000; For RE4, it was 1,600,000. The difference between one and another for Gamecube Exclusives is that RE4 sold just above 250,000, but nonetheless were overall pretty close to one another as a whole. The reason why RE4 was so successful was because someone outside of Shinji Mikami decided to export it OUT of Gamecube, yet did not give that same treatment to any of the other Gamecube Exclusive RE games, thus damning them. It did not help that Resident Evil as a whole was generally considered more of a Playstation game, and for some reason Shinji Mikami somewhat 'alienated' a lot of former fans of the games by having a lot of the numbered/sequel games be left on the Gamecube, whilst the PS2 generally got what other's considered 'leftovers', whether that is true or not. To put into perspective, RE4 sold 2,300,000 on the Playstation 2. Not only did it inflate and increase the sales already brought in by the Gamecube, but it also sold way more than its gamecube variant by 700,000, more than twice the difference between the Remake and RE4 when they were both former Gamecube Exclusives. This wasn't a choice by Shinji Mikami BTW, as he for some reason hated the playstation... to the point he quit his job when it happened. Which you can take that as you will.

RE 1 remake is the perfect example of how to remake of a resident game. Sorely because nothing was cut, more was added to the story to extend it, new mechanics, graphics were updated, gameplay and controls were modernized to be less clunkly. This game came out in 2002 and was remastered in 2015 (yes this is a HD remaster of the 2002 GC version to be avaliable to more modern consoles but the main game is still a remake of the original) . Yet it still looks insane how well the graphics hold up, it still has that creepy atmosphere and is true survival horror. it doesn't try to hold your hand or hint what your objective is. The game forces you to think for yourself and that's also one of it's charms. Even if you aren't a great fan of tank controls, I would recommend this game.

Tried 3 times to get into Witcher 3 and really all I want to do is douse that world of misery and despair in a highly flammable substance and watch it burn. Fun fact. The dogs won't dive through the room at all if you go through the room from the direction of the main hall. I tried it. They only come out if you go backwards, as in you navigate the room in the opposite direction. For that reason I always went through that room from one way, and not the other so I wouldn't have to deal with them.

The original was the first time I saw someone be actually afraid for real of a videogame. Granted I got it when it came out, and my sister is only 2 years younger than me, but I thought she would like it in a similar way that I did, but she actually cried and asked me to turn it off... The 90s... good times. The only videogame that made me truly afraid was Silent Hill 3, I was in my teens, but there was a night I got that real type of fear, the one that is truly unpleasant and hurts. Guess it was the environment, given I was alone in the middle of the night. I miss getting that feeling from a game, it never happened again, and now reaching my 40s, I doubt I will ever have anything close to that, but it is what it is, life.

The initial bad reception on Gamecube was definitely franchise fatigue. Resident Evil games had mostly been same-ish since the original on PS1. RE4 proves that the "more mature" audience was there on Gamecube, but they were waiting for a title that really shook things up. I remember getting Gamecube just because Resident Evil became Nintendo exclusive at the time. There was no talk about ports on other consoles. RE was supposed to be exclusive to Gamecube. I think bad sales got Capcom out of the deal or something along those lines. I recommend checking out Resident Evil Outbreak games if you haven't yet. I think those games perfected the classic RE gameplay. Their stories and overall structure might not be as solid since they were meant to be played in episodes, but they are the true survival horror experience imo, even more so than REmake.

The original mansion felt like being trapped inside a furniture wholesale store 😂 The bright lights, general cleanliness, the old but still new-looking furniture, and the lack of a “lived in” vibe. The remake mansion is definitely better.
@michaelmyers7039 Жыл бұрын
No, The remake mansion is not better. The original is better because the mansion in the original makes you feel that there's a family living in it because the mansion looks modern and so bright. but in the remake, the mansion is dark and full of candles, and this gives the feeling that it is a very old mansion or abandoned although the game takes place in 1998 and not in 1898 so the candles seems out of place, and this killed the mystery from the first moment you entered the mansion.

I need to play RE1 remake again. I completed the entire game and the trophy list to 100% on PS4 years back and haven’t really played it since. RE1 original was my first RE game and found myself wanting a PlayStation because of it. Played it a ton and than RE2 released and it took over as my most played game. With the sales from the RE remake when it came out on GameCube was due to audience of the GC being way younger and that the game was an exclusive for it. Wasn’t a great decision.

My first Resident Evil encounter was RE 2 on playstation. Which I didnt own when I was a teen. My cousin had N64 and b4 had SNES. I was on the Sega train having Genesis for ALIEN 3 and then asked for the Saturn and my Brother in Law had a Playstation. I Had him read a walkthrough of it. Out in his mancave garage.. It was a eye opener at the time of my mistake in getting Saturn. Well I heard that RE 1 got a port in 98 on the system around when it was discontinued in america. DIE HARD TRILOGY and X Men COtA could go only so far.So I begged my mom to find a copy at Video Game stores. Well she got me one in a plastic cd Case from a Babbages used.. I played it in its blocky and Mesh translution effects Saturn Glory. I absolutely loved it almost as much as 2.. It was just me in my room in the dark and its atmosphere and pace just clicked..Saturn had it rough in 3d ports because it was made to be a arcade 2d juggernaught and i still own it all today. I am proud and am still so grateful for my mom always coming thru with a hard task of her spoiled brat s hopes..Miss you Ma..I digress..Eventually got my playstation when i started working and got my needed fix of Metal Gear Solid,Syphon Filter and my junky yearn for every Twisted Metal title and Vigilante 8 and Rougue Trip..Resi 3 i played on Ps1 and wasnt as impressed mainly for its short running playthrough. I actually really liked it on Dreamcast where i played it and Code Veronica..Not until RE Remake and 4 on my Gamecube were gamechangers. I still have the most fond memories of 2 and 1 for the time in my youth void of cynical brain sickness. That thing that happens to you as you reach adulthood.

Even though RE1 remake on the GameCube sold poorly you could say that it would go on to become a cult classic among DieHard Resident Evil gamers. The re1 remake for the GameCube may have fell into obscurity for a short while but then in 2013 they re-released that remake for pc, ps3, and Xbox 360 as HD collection with modern day enhanced graphics and quality so you could say that it received the cult following because die hard Resident Evil gamers will often go back and replay the re1 remake. The re1 remake if you ask me is more faithful when it comes down to Resident Evil remix compared to the re2 remakes of two and three. But as for Resident Evil 4 remake let's just wait and see.

you mentioned that the dog hallway's windows don't break immediately and instead break later, but that's not the case. the window cracks when you first enter, then when you go through the hallway the other way (enter through east wing, walk through, exit by main hall), the dogs get in. if you play it smart and use it as a one-way hallway, you can go through the whole game without encountering them. also, the jill sandwich scene only plays in the remake if you try to get the shotgun before the cutscene where barry gives you the acid rounds (and you interact with both doors)
@SeventhheavenDK Жыл бұрын
Actually it's the same in the original, technically. If you go to the 2F and meet Barry at Forest' place instead of using the Lockpick to go through the east wing of the 1F, he will give you the Bazooka instead of the Rounds, and he will no longer appear at the Shotgun Room to save Jill, and you will also get alternative scenes with him, you will find him at the room where you have to drain the fish tank, and the file there will be incomplete because Barry destroyed some of the pages, following this route Jill actually starts to get suspicious of Barry earlier.

16:31 The idea that one character is harder than the other is somewhat subjective. I did a run through with Chris on REmake for the first time in years, remembering him as the harder character. But I discovered that his advantages do outweigh the negatives and by the end of my play through I felt like Chris was easier than Jill. Chris has a number of advantages. For one, he can take considerably more damage than Jill which can be especially helpful during boss fights. Second, he readies his firearm faster than Jill which may seem like a small thing but when you compare the two, it feels like Jill takes forever to raise her gun compared to Chris, making it easier for Chris to shoot and run with higher reaction times - this is most noticeable when you watch Jill try to lift the rocket launcher. Chris may have a limited arsenal but he gets an ass load of shotgun rounds which is one of the best weapons in the game. Having limited weapons actually means less need for inventory slots. I would often only carry the shotgun in my inventory, sometimes even during boss fights like the snake. You can even get away with only carrying the loaded shotgun while not carrying extra ammo during the less dangerous parts of the game, freeing another slot.

One thing that pissed us old-school fans about Re2r is we waited ALMOST 20 YEARS for this treatment. Plus a fan was making a remake, he added oTS and FPS if you wanted it, coop, MILLIONS of new features. Capcom shut it down. Everybody was pissed but "hey at least RE2make came out". Now we got a lot of removed content dedicated to newbies, and when they made their announcement video "We do it" (because it was that asked for) they tried cutting basic stuff like the crocodile. (A staffer fought for that to stay in) but b scenarios are pretty much gone. And now everybody is like "tank controls suck" umm Tony hawk games suck? Thank controls "outdated" is a personal choice that's like saying "call of duty should have over the shoulder"... No that ain CoD. Then (going back to "we do it") they said to AND I QUOTE "CONTACT WITH YOUR IDEAS" Elza Walker was a fan wish, old school soundtrack and defense items are fan wishes.... 2 of those are PAID DLC that's BS. (My phone recently broke so this is my mom's profile/phone. I'd appreciate if y'all didn't dog her device if you disagree)

Something great about REmake that you didn’t mention is how the game still screws with you on subsequent replays. Not only does it use your knowledge of the original Resident Evil against you (the Cerberus hallway being the obvious example) but it uses your knowledge of the REmake against you on replays. The grenade-laden “One Dangerous Zombie” is a fun addition that once unlocked, CANNOT be disabled. There’s also how Tyrant will straight up PARRY the rocket launcher shot in the final battle. He still has the decency to die to a follow up shot (one time he parried me twice though) but still….

@@Walamonga1313 ah, so you took the coward’s way out I see. Forrest is actually pretty easy to deal with. Once you learn, he goes from a lethal threat to a free pass. Good vid, You missed some things in the original that were kind of 'highlighted' in the remake, for example the Rebecca being attacked by the Hunter scene is in the original it's just more secluded and you have to explore into the area by yourself. There's a good forum post on the gameFAQs forum that highlights all the 'missables' of which there's quite a lot (I know you highlighted those you found out later such as Brad Shotgun in Remake which I did enjoy, almost a homage to those missables), I still find things like how fast you do the Yawn Serum section in Chris' determines if you have the help on Plant 42 interesting for example in og. I do agree it mostly supersede the original albeit I'm not a fan of the addition of the defensive items which Zero had too

Honestly, my main issue with Remakes, any remake, even good ones like this, is the absence of the original's as ports, feels like more and more emulation is the only way to go back and check them out, i don't think an RE Collection would be that hard to pull off, sure it wouldn't be as interesting as Deadly Silence which is just RE1 + QoL gameplay additions, but it's something, i'd gladly pay for it, and i think a lot of other people would too. But yeah, Remake is just a masterpiece, it is peak RE, and probably like, a perfect game, which sounds like overhyping it, but its just a perfect game, it does everything it wants to do perfectly and then it ends, its like, flawless and the way the backgrounds are and even the stylization the humans have (not entirely going for realistic but fitting the background enough) makes it somehow kinda timeless? Its been a while and nothing about it jumps out as ''oh this looks shit'' or ''oh this aspect looks better than that'', and that's weird for a semi-real 3D game, usually timeless stuff is overly stylized stuff like Wind Waker, idkw RE and RE0 (Even if i don't like it) are visually timeless and still impresses a bit. (resposted this a bunch cause i was having trouble with Google/KZbin stuff, yep still i am, dunno why its getting my name wrong, thanks google)
