My friend said 'mansions and zombies doesn't seem that scary' and I was okay, but what makes re scary is looking at your map and seeing all the rooms you gotta move thru and knowing there's 4 zombies on the way and you only have 1 healing item and 20 ammo. The A and B scenario RE2R don't tie to each other. Apparently Capcom was only going to make one campaign for Leon and Claire and made the [2nd run] due to fan demand. That means that every story happens independently of each other. That's why you see Mr.X die on Claire's campaign and he is still alive on Leon's, why Annette is all over the place and why you always fight the same bosses.

Honestly there really isn’t an explanation for how Annette can be at two places when she clearly dies in one. I heard this once but I don’t know if it’s true so take it with a grain of salt. Originally Capcom was just going to do the canon story for re2make (Claire A Leon B) but fans wanted it so badly after seeing the e3 trailer that capcom decided to do it. But by that time there wasn’t time to polish it and that’s why there’s a lot of confusion since it’s possible that Annette would only be seen dieing in Claire route and Leon would just meet her but thanks to the A and B scenario set up it gets muddled up.
@Rationalific3 жыл бұрын
I think you're right. I just say that each character's scenario represents another alternative history of what occurred. You can choose the one you prefer. There is no way to come to one story by going through multiple ones, so it's not worth it. Just focus on your favorite. It would be cool if they would go back and give us the full treatment, and also go back through RE3 Remake and give us the clock tower and more base Nemesis (without weapons or transformations).

RE2make was my personal GOTY for 2019. From my first impression, they nailed the majority of what I wanted the remake to be from its atmosphere, puzzles, exploration and overall challenge because, in my opinion, remake has more challenging gameplay design compared to the original, but even as a remake, it also feels somewhat of a missed opportunity. It left me baffled by how badly scenarios interconnect with each other and they completely dropped out the zapping system. The original intent from the developers was for it to have one consistent campaign for each character and it really shows. They probably added the B scenario at the 11th hour. Maybe that's why it felt so rushed. It also left me disappointed with the enemy variety since a good few of them were cut out from the original with a huge moth, spider enemies, crows and even evolved lickers were dropped out. I can live without crows, but when they decided to cut out some enemies, they could have compensated with some newer ones at least. G Type Adult isn't it since he was one of the bosses in the original. They just slightly changed the design and added more of them. Ivy isn't it either. It's pretty much Plant 42 with a different more humanoid design. Alligator also feels like a rushed and poor design desicion. Originally through development, Alligator part was supposed to be longer and stretched out where it follows you in several rooms like a predator and you were the prey and you were supposed to have more agency to fight it and they probably wanted to drop it out completely because they couldn't find the ways to make it work for some reason but probably because of the fan backlash they had to find the compromise to put it in the game and went with the janky scripted Crash Bandicoot level. I like that they added the Gator in the game, he was in the original after all, but it does feel poorly thought out and doesn't belong in the game due to its different design philosophy. RE2 remake barely has moments when it slows down or feels needlessly scripted and I was only able to find very few short walking sections that barely hinder the gameplay and having something like the scripted Alligator sections feels kind of jarring in comparison. Alligator fight felt more consistent in the original game. Originally, they had some cool ideasin terms of enemy designs, some concept designs look even frightening and fucked up, there was even an idea where a zombie eventually transforms into a licker similar to Crimson Heads which looks cool but the game itself is already challenging enough as it is so I can see why they dropped the idea completely. Love the game, but I honestly wanted something more out of it. It might have been better if developers didn't take the middle ground route in appealing to fans and doing their own thing and picked one or the other. It lacks the organic scenario progression from the original and how they play out it left me frowning my eyebrows. RE3make at least went for something a bit different even though it's lacking a bit compared to the original game and I commend the bolder move of trying to do something fresh with a remake and not just do a copy/paste job with better graphics. Maybe that's why Twin Snakes isn't my cup of tea because outside the insane over the top cinematics and MGS2 gameplay engine, it's still the same game with a different coat of paint and different music, but lacks the original atmosphere. I'm not really looking forward to a remake of RE4, since the game I've already played still holds up pretty well for what it was going for, but if they're going for a different experience, I'm down for that. Maybe they'll borrow something from an original concept design of RE4 and its Hook man demo. Overall, I still think RE2make is a stellar return to survivor horror and one of my favorite games of 8th console generation. I was just expecting they'd fix some of the issues with a DLC patch or something.

Gameplay wise, resi 2 remake is one of the best out there. But the scenarios are just so poorly implemented it ruins the story. In development capcom were intending to give Leon and Claire their own respective scenarios, no zapping system or A/B scenarios, for the first time effectively giving Leon and Claire their definitive stories during the events of the racoon city outbreak. However fan outcry demanded the A/B scenario be returned, and so the final product was a bodge job of an A/B system was renamed 1st scenario/2nd scenario.
@Atlier3 жыл бұрын
Yeah...thats not what happened. What we got with RE2 Remake's Claire and Leon 1st run is all Capcom was going to do in the first place. They planned to do what they did with RE1 and just have a Jill and Chris campaign that don't connect. The fan outcry caused them to shift the full ending over to a 2nd run(of the character you didnt play first). This is why the only major changes in the 2nd run are mainly in the RPD; they ran out of time. The 2nd runs are just a half assed attempt to make ammends for their colossal game design fuck up, that made zero sense in the first place. If they only wanted 2 scenarios, they should have just had a Claire and Leon campaign that connected.
@daveweaver38862 жыл бұрын
This is exactly why RE2R is far from being a masterpiece. They botched and completely removed two of the original game's top selling points which were the A/B scenarios and the zapping system. They should have valued and respected these mechanics more and greatly expanded on them. Sadly they decided to throw all their eggs in one basket with visuals, gameplay and motion capturing.

Every little thing. I love looking on the map like where should I go next. Also this is so tense. Re games never really scared me, even 7 and dollhouse in 8 didnt scare me too much but the lighting in this makes it amazing. How you are just in the dark hallways limited ammo wandering aggresive zombies, gore when you try to shoot one. The horror is all there and this is dwifdebtly most horrfiyng in the series. Also who could forget the story. Amazing story that expanded upon the original in 1998 and now expands on 1998 in 2019. This is perfect. I have some sort of hot takes on this game. 1) Making it a third person shooter doesn’t automatically mean it’s better than the original. The fixed camera angles, while difficult to get used to, did necessitate some uniquely creative game design and created a steep but cathartic difficulty curve - things that lend themselves well to a horror game and that Capcom games have more often than not excelled at, at least in the past. The fixed camera angles were sometimes more frustrating than scary, but they should always have a place in the RE franchise, even if exclusive to lower budget side series’. 2) This is the best controlling of all the third person RE games (yes, even including RE4, even though it’s debatable whether the game design is better than RE4) Something that this game does with the controls that’s kind of cool and goes overlooked is that dodging a zombie in RE2 is very similar to dodging zombies in the RE1 “remake” when you have the modern analog controls enabled, where you can bait the zombies but you have to be ready to change directions on a dime. That’s very smart because they know people who play RE2 Remake are going to want to go back and play RE0+1, which were already collected on current gen consoles. The business and creative interests perfectly aligned in RE’s favor this console generation!

I do feel like while RE2make sometimes gets harsh criticisms from long time fans, at same time i feel some of the complaints are justified Like you mentioned, A/B scenerio lack much of needed difference to distinquish it from main game which leaves it as just **the videogame hard mode that includes the true final boss and ending*** which was confirmed later by the devs that A/B scenerios were last minute addition just so they can extend the games length which explains it's akward inclusion, there's also the fact that the boss fights feel overall on par with original (if not worse thanks to modern tech and more developed understanding of horror games) they're just walking tank who can be only damaged by hitting specific weakspots while having stuff turning movemet, (it's at it worst during Leon campaigns final boss with MR.X during the lift where you keep circling around while the area gets tighter until ada drops the RPG), I did feel like there was chance to improve for more interesting encounters such example such as Second form-berkin fight either leon or claire where you have to choices either hitting him twice with switch that knocks him over or finishing him manually with bullets. MR.X can be intimidating in first playthrough but after few encounters you discover that his A.I is easily exploitable with walking foward *he enters hit animation* walk back and then walk around him whole recovering, circling around him also seems effective, I even tend to worry more about the zombies and lickers then him becoming my least concern element which is bit upsetting since i liked him alot at first before studying him more, His music is amazing with steps ques added his track making it blend well with enviorment. Claire can be much harder for me to play at first thanks to her starter weapon being a revolver with 5 ammos per magazine and slow animation reload compared to leon's matilda faster loading and bigger magazine, tho there's flaw that you could upgrade leon's maltida pistol to 3-burst pistol and more steady him early the game after first berkin fight which makes him quite overpowered, specially when ammo for pistol and gunpowders are quite plentiful compared to shotguns or Mags. and on final note i felt both third weapons (Leon's Flamethrower and claire's electric shock were only useful during lab section against the mutated plant creatures since they only become burden in inventory eventually, In some playthroughs I skipped aquiring them and the only consenquence I met was having lower ammo during final section so i tend to skim over them tho i won't deny using electric shocker have some level of cool factor I hope this long list didn't give way that i ended up disliking the game quite the opposite I loved it and replayed multiple times, I only noticed these issues with reocurring playthroughs so it's quite plus for the game, I grasp that having same experiance or improved compared to the first playthrough is sometime impossible, and also avoided making too many comparsions with original since i feel like game is bit far removed from it to make too many comparsions without coming off unfair

Also, like, I just really like how mechanically diverse RE4 is compared to RE2make. The blind gonnados enemies with the claws are some of the most mechanically awesome enemies in the entire game. Making it so that they're close up attacks are devastating meaning you'll want to stay away, but you can't run or else you'll alert them, and then placing the weak spots on its back. Then there's the regenerators which can go down if you pump enough bullets into them, but will go down far easier with the thermal scope. Or how your knife can deflect thrown objects in mid air, or how you can shoot explosives right in an enemy's hand. I just feel like RE4 has more mechanical depth than RE2make. Sorry. I just felt like most enemies in RE2make were just... tanks. With very little depth in them.

Uh. I actually liked Leon's loadout more. The shotgun istantkills zombies with point blank headshots, his handgun is much better and the magnum and the flamethrower melt bosses lifebar. As for Claire? Her handgun is much weaker and carries less ammo (at least her 1st run gun. The Quickdraw she gets on the 2nd run is great.), the Grenade Launcher is meh against zombies but is great for killing Lickers but you never really need to kill any Lickers in this game, the machine gun she gets is completely worthless and eats too much ammo for too low DPS (which is why i never bother picking it up), and the Spark Shot is nowhere near as good as the Flamethrower. And her "Hi-Power Rounds" are just a weaker version of Leon's Magnum! Only good thing about her loadout is that Acid Rounds can stunlock some bosses (mainly G2 and G3) Will you review RE3Remake as well? That game is super fun as well just not as good as RE2.
@JsReviews3 жыл бұрын
Those are all pretty fair points. I just *felt* more powerful against bosses and lickers as Claire than Leon, but the basic loadout is better against zombies. And yeah, RE3 will be a new video soon.
@SweetChildofMine-l5y3 жыл бұрын
Jesus, you're so critical about Claire's loadout. Leon's shotgun does NOT always instant kill Zombie's with headshots, so you're wrong about that. Secondly, Claire's Grenade Launcher wrecks most enemies, and kills them in one hit. And i'm 99% sure that her ''high power rounds'' are as equally as strong to Leon's magnum bullets. So I don't know what the hell you're talking about.
@SweetChildofMine-l5y3 жыл бұрын
@@JsReviews ''fair points'', my ass. His points were mostly incorrect.
@lantrodijosh62243 жыл бұрын
@@SweetChildofMine-l5y Yes it is an instant kill 100% of the time, the thing is, if you have the base Shotgun the range you have to have with the zombie head is so close that sometimes you risk getting grabbed or missing the target. Once you get the upgrades for the Shotgun, the range increases dramatically so getting headshots becomes ten times easier. Claire Hi Power Rounds are not as good simply because Leon can upgrade his Magnum and make it much stronger, if you take the chance to backtrack to the RPD once you reach the sewers. If you compare it to Leon base magnum, then, yeah they are almost equal but still Claire's gun has got a worse reload time. The Grenade Launcher WORKS well against zombies, but it's not very practical. Simply because ammo for the Grenade Launcher is more scarce, while Shotgun ammo is super plentiful. So wasting Grenades on zombies is ill advised. Not to mention, if you waste all of your Flame Rounds on zombies, you will have a bad time in NEST. Mind you, i still enjoy playing as Claire, i just think Leon's loadout is more practical. Also i think Claire's scenarios are much easier than Leon's, even if her weapons are more situational.

According to Capcom, this game is a new entry to the series rather than just a remake. Leon Kennedy is 21 during the events of Resident Evil 2. This remake comes out 21 years (and 4 days) after the release of the original PS One Resident Evil 2. Was built from the ground up on the RE Engine, the same engine that was used for Resident Evil VII: Biohazard (2017). No ink ribbons are needed to save this game when it's played on an easy or a normal difficulty. However, on a higher difficulty, this item is required. Despite taking many liberties to differentiate itself from the original Resident Evil 2, the game has unlockable skins for Leon and Claire: in their original polygonal forms as seen in 1998. Enemies are able to chase the player from one room to another upon detection. There is an achievement in the game titled 'Master of Unlocking'. This is a reference to character Barry Burton's notorious line in the original Resident Evil (1996), which has become the subject of various memes and parodies since its release. Although physically absent the distant sound of crows can be heard when Leon and Ada go down the short alleyway that is right next to the door Kendo the gun shop owner and his daughter went into in the cutscene. The zombie alligator sequence was almost cut from the game, but the studio decided to leave it in due to its popularity among fans of the original. Introduces the red and blue herb combination, which not only cures poisoning, but also makes the player temporarily invulnerable to it. It will also increase the defense for a while. Except for the first build up, the game has no loading screens. Ada was the character that took the developers the longest to get right, as they tried to figure out which appearance would fit the character. They decided to base her appearance on that of a classic spy The license plate on Claire's motorcycle reads "J2198", which is another reference to the US release of the original game (January 21, 1998). The likeness of Leon S. Kennedy and Claire Redfield are based on models Eduard Badaluta and Jordan Mcewen respectively. Mcewen was uncredited for her work, as her modeling agency didn't want her name to be revealed. However, she confirmed her involvement in the project on Instagram, saying that she went to Osaka in 2016 to work with Capcom. When the player defeats the final form of G, the cutscene shows a closeup of its eye for a second. This is a nod to the menu screen of Resident Evil 2 (1998). Despite being fan-favourites, giant moths, spiders and zombie crows are absent in this remake. According to the producers, they were dropped as they would've clashed with the realistic tone the developers were aiming for.

I'm glad you enjoyed RE2 remake. It's a stellar remake. My only disappointment is there's no zapping system. In the original RE2 game, you can unlock this locker and it contained two optional items. A side pack that increases space in your inventory and a sub machine gun. You get no ammo for it in the A senario. You can take both items in the A senario. But in the B Senario depending on who you're playing as, neither item will be there if you take it in the A senario. If you leave one of them like the Sub machine gun, it'll still be there on your B senario. Same with the side pack. The original RE2 game also had two extra modes. There's the 4th Survivor where you play as Hunk. An Umbrella Operative. And you have to make it to your destination in 5 minutes while dealing with a lot of zombies. You'll have to beat both Senarios to unlock it. But it's extra content. It's also in RE2 remake. Then there's Tofu mode. Tofu mode is the 4th survivor. Only you're playing as a piece of Tofu with only a knife. The Duel Shock edition of RE2 the original also added an extreme battle game. This was probably done because the Sega Saturn of the original RE1 game had a battle mode too and it wasn't in the first version on PS1. So when they wanted to add it back, they released the RE director's cut. The director's cut was also suppose to have the uncensored live action cutscenes. But the PC release ended up getting that. The director's cut didn't even have the battle mode they intented to add. So what's different about the director's cut? Well there's a couple new cutscenes like the option to meet Rebecca in Chris's Campaign when she's tending to Richard, the part where you have to save her from a Hunter in the West Wing of the mansion. Jill gets two optional cutscenes too like Barry acting strange in the GuardHouse or when Barry meets you earliar in the scientist office. He rips the top part of a message off to a guy writing to his wife. Other changes like the auto lock on was added to the director's cut, some of the enemies are easier to deal with like the Hunters, there's even different difficulty modes. There's Beginner which doubles the amount of ammo you get and triples your health, there's original which is the standard challenge. Ammo is scarce and enemies do more damage on you. You even have less ink ribbons. Then there's Arrange mode which fully replaces every key item in different areas, different enemy placements, and more damage inflicted on you. The only benefit to playing arrange mode is having to pop headshots with a pistol. That's all you get. I'd say the director's cut is the best version of the game if it wasn't for the biggest downside. The different OST. Just listen to the kitchen OST of the original, then listen to the director's cut. The director's cut version was composed by a Japanese composer who was known to be deaf at the time. But that's all you're getting in the director's cut. I'd really suggest the original RE more. But I see no harm in playing RE1 remake. In fact I was the one that suggested to you back on you MGS vs Twin Snakes video saying That you should do a comparison between the original and the remake. I mainly suggested to you because of the RE2 remake. Will it be the next video?

RE2 Remake is how I got into the franchise in the first place and it’s made me go back and play the other games. Still trying to make time to finish the series ;)

This might have already been stated by commenters a few times. But if you want a detailed explanation for how RE2's campaign structure was supposed to work, here it is below... The original RE2 had its campaign structured as either Leon-A/Claire-B or Claire-A/Leon-B, depending on which character you chose to play as first. Similar to the the First/Second Run scenarios in the remake, this would admittedly cause you to repeat some of the exact rooms, enemy layouts, and puzzles as your secondary character. However, the cutscenes and boss fights in the original's scenarios were actually created to match up and not repeat anything, so that each B-scenario fills in the narrative gaps of its A-scenario counterpart. There were even subtle mechanics, which allowed you to make choices in the A scenario that would affect your B scenario's playthrough. For example, the A-scenario boss fights would go as G-Adult -> Mutant Alligator -> G2 Birkin -> G4 Birkin, whereas the sequence of B-scenario boss fights would go as G1 Birkin -> Mutant Alligator (if you merely repelled the giant beast, rather than blowing it up) -> G3 Birkin -> Super Tyrant -> G5 Birkin. To give an example of alternate subplots: In the Claire-A/Leon-B arrangement, Annette dies in front of Sherry and Ada instead gets injured by Mr. X, right before he gets burned and transforms into a Super Tyrant. Leon finishes the Tyrant off. In the Leon-A/Claire-B arrangement, Ada Wong gets shot by Annette, Sherry and Claire go out to the catwalk to see Annette dying, and Mr. X gets burned when he pursues Sherry for her G-Virus sample. In turn, Claire fights Mr. X as a Super Tyrant. The main problem with the RE2 Remake is that it only commits to the original's campaign structure half-heartedly, creating a lot more repetition, a narrower variety of alternate subplots, and a lack of continuity between the First/Second Run.

I honestly don't understand how that many people can even be happy with what we got here because this structure simply does not work for a game about two characters who both have their own important sub plots and events to occur. Scenarios necessarily had to complement and not to contradict but that's exactly what they do.

@@pretenderxxx2385 As I said somewhere else in this comment section, it's as if they could not decide whether the RE2 Remake's narrative structure should be that of RE1 (where each campaign is non-canonical and self-contained, with one character doing everything in one go), the original RE2 (where both characters contribute their own "half-campaign" which varies based on who you play as first), or RE6 (where multiple campaigns form the exact canonical events, with each character having fixed subplots, boss fights, etc.). So what we got is a confused hybrid of all three styles, which is just messy and makes no sense. Sometimes, the RE2 Remake acts like RE1, where the protagonist you currently pick gets the majority of boss fights and interactions with major characters, allowing no possibility of another story happening offscreen. It even gets to a point where Mr. X gets prematurely killed in Claire's campaign, like Barry's implied fate during Chris' intro of RE1. Yet other times, the scenarios purposefully leave some loose ends, requiring a secondary campaign to tie them, like with the original RE2 and RE6. But within those circumstances, it sometimes lets you change the story based on First/Second Run (such as who meets Marvin, fights G5, etc.) while denying you that choice for other aspects (like how Claire and Leon respectively fight G4 and Super Tyrant, no matter what). Not to mention, because these campaigns repeat certain parts or contradict each other, they fail to properly fill the gaps in their counterparts' narratives.

Very good points as far as I can see. This game was my favorite childhood game and the remake was supposed to be something special for me but this one big ugly flaw just killed it for me.

Though it's technically my third RE game I've tried (bought but barely even touched RE5, played but haven't finished RE4 and I love it) but my dad and I played through and I loved this game, it's fantastic.

I still play RE2 Remake because it's nostalgic and I kinda feel the vibes from the 90's Ps1 games.

The biggest issue with remake is how they handLed the A and B scenarios. You need to play the originals to get what I mean. You almost get 2completely different stories. Cherry for instance doesn’t become infected in LeonA CalireB. But only though playing ClaireB do you find out Mr x’s goal. Also decisions made in A will affect B. There is a gun where if you take it in A, B won’t have it.

I'd love to see your perspective on the RE series. As a relative newcomer myself, I don't have much investment in the games. As always exceptional video.

Grew up in the 90's and the og '98 game scared me to death, didnt want to even hold the controller 😂 Watched my cousin play through, wish i had his bravery back then. Its also kinda ironic because im playing the original right now 🙂

Lmao the OG verison is where its at. That feeling you describe is all the reason I picked up the stick and beat the breaks off it back then....this is no where near the level of the original.

The explanation for why the two playthroughs have redundant parts is because the devs decided they wouldn't want to play the effort in. That was one of the main criticisms that they got for the 1998 game and its a shame the did not fix it.
