10:00 he's literally reaching inside his space echo and using the tape heads as an instrument, that's insane.
@mcblahflooper946 жыл бұрын
Nils is using a Tape Echo, which is an analog effect in which a tape machine repeats the signal input, making an "echo" effect. You can hear this around 4:53. This is how its usually used. Inside of it, there's an actual tape looping, which Nils is manipulating with his hands around 10:00 to make some very very whacky sounds. This is very creative, and NOT how the device was supposed to be used and is the first time I've (personally) seen anyone with these use it like this. It's also somewhat of a hazard because those units are extremely expensive, and that might be bad for the machine. But he seems to do it fine, and I know less than him (he literally repairs and sets up his gear on his own, which is crazy), so whatever.
@YourMaIsFit6 жыл бұрын
It's not hazardous whatsoever, all he is doing is slightly pushing the tape forward in order to create that "warping" sound. It's no more dangerous or creative than winding back old tapes with a pencil. It's used to create a phasing/chorusing effect in the echo unit itself! Obviously I'm drawing absolutely nothing away from this man as he is an incredibly talented musician and composer.
