Not every one of these kids is living with no responsible adult while living in Govt care or have had a bad upbringing. That's a cop out and most Queenslanders have had enough of the excuses made for their crimes. They aren't just stealing a chocolate bar and can of coke from the shop. They are committing serious crimes an adult would be imprisoned for, and they are getting away with it. Released from court to commit crimes hours or days later. During a community meeting residents told the Police and some Elders that they had had enough, that the Police were unable to bring the situation under control so the residents would do it themselves. The Police said doing so would be breaking the law and the comment was made by one of the residents that, that bridge would be crossed when they came to it. @ about 20 years ago I remembered a news story, an 18yr old aboriginal man raped a girl. The elders took him out into the bush and speared his legs about 20 times until he can't walk again, then they hand him over to the police. He got pretty low jail sentence, but he will never walk again. They called it tribal justice and the police does not get involved. If you are indigenous and commits a crime in the tribe or community you get two sets of punishments, one from the tribe and another from the courts, the courts tend to give pretty light punishments to them with unspoken acknowledgement that the elders will have their own to give. Now the elders are encouraging the families to not report abuses within the tribe or family, the kids homes are plagued with abusive and neglectful alcoholics so they turn to running feral in the streets at night and the elders does nothing.

A lack of parental control is the first big issue in this problem. Understaffed police is another problem. Very soft attitudes by the legal system is another. It was terrifying to think what could of happened if their intentions had of been different. We have no idea if they were ever caught. Communication with police was very one sided. We never got any of our possessions returned . Our place was not the only house they had broken into that night ....we were one of 4 . School holidays seem to be the busiest time for these offenders although it is a year round problem . The police are not the problem ....the court system is . Also the community that the majority of these offenders come from don't hold them accountable either , even when their family members or friends know what they have done , they stay silent and often refuse to help the police to do their jobs . It's a very frustrating multi layered problem.

Just remember though, if you get home invaded by these crims or any other & not just survive but actually do harm to one of the attackers never, ever admit to having been prepared to defend yourself, that shows premeditation on your behalf & you will likely loose the self defence argument. Also advice from the police is; if you are in immediate danger at your home do not call the police for help you need to flee your home. That's right don't call the cops for immediate help in an emergency instead somehow gather your kids together, find the car keys then weave in & out of the intruders like a pro footballer throw kids in the car & escape. That is real world advice given to a family member just a few weeks ago. This single mum asked what can she use to defend herself here in Queensland? answer - basically nothing! you can use a "tactical torch" (a really bright light) & a whistle anything else is likely to show premeditation as I said at the start. In Western Australia at least you can have pepper spray, in QLD you are on your own, a home invasion that leads to death or great bodily harm can take as little as 60 seconds to happen, how are we supposed to either escape our homes or even make a "000" call in that amount of time? We should be allowed pepper spray in our vehicles & homes, this would at least give people a chance to escape. Also the idea that we have to leave our house & run away when faced with intruders is so stupid! Your home should be your safe place, you shouldn't ever have to be required to flee your own home, or risk gaol time for defending it or yourself, we should be allowed to be armed for the purpose of self defence, but we lost that right in '96.
@adamgriss202514 күн бұрын
Sadly, it’s the same problem in Canada. The police even went on record recommending that you leave the car keys by the door so that the criminals can just take your car without having to rummage through your home. 🤬
@ian-f5f13 күн бұрын
Please dont spread this type of misinformation, the law regarding self defence is the same in all states, you are allowed to use reasonable force, in a home invasion and if you are in fear of your life and defending yourself then you can use whatever is handy as long as you dont use more force than is reasonable to stop the threat. So every circumstance would be different. As far as pepper spray goes in WA it is a grey area and you will need to prove you had reasonable grounds to possess it for self defence, just wanting to have it handy is not enough.
@tomnewham126913 күн бұрын
you never had the right to own a firearm for self defence.
@PiNKMuDSimGaming13 күн бұрын
@@tomnewham1269 yeah we did. Pre '96 ban "Self defence" was one of the reasons you could have for owning a firearm. It differed state to state but in some cases you didn't even need a reason or a license to own a long gun. Queensland & Tasmania had basically no restrictions, you could own anything except for a machine gun without special permission. Pre '96 we were actually treated like adults in this country, now we all act like a bunch of pearl clutching cry babies. Also these gun bans & laws have done nothing to prevent mass shootings or domestic violence. I can't remember the exact numbers but from 1901 - pre Port Author shooting in 1996 we had about 50 "mass shootings" (4 or more people injured in single event) from post Port Author to like 2020'ish we have had at least 25 mass shootings tell me how effective gun control is working then? in about 1/4 the time we have had 1/2 the mass shootings. & domestic violence still happens it's just people get stabbed & beaten to death instead of shot. @wizziamthegreat you're lying about the figures, changing definitions to suit your narrative. I have been to a lot of these towns in the past they have NEVER been such violent cesspools. The people know his. Their homes are being broken into, their cars stolen, being assaulted and evwn murdered in their homes and on the streets, and you're there trying to tell them it didn't happen. Who you think is going to buy your lies?

Basically there are no consequences- judges let them off easy exacerbating the problem. First establish boot camp instead of jail. Deport non citizens. Police can only do so much.

The government is too slow to respond to the issues that have been plaguing Australians from the start. Someone needs to be held responsible for their actions. If the parents of these young thugs cannot control or educate their children to be better people, they should bear the responsibility of compensating the victims for the damage caused. Why should others pay the price for their incompetence as parents? The government, on the other hand, is too lenient with young offenders. Being young doesn't mean you can act irresponsibly! Everyone must take responsibility for their actions; age cannot be an excuse.
@MLR88414 күн бұрын
The government isnt responsible for punishing offenders, the courts are. There’s already laws in place to punish offenders. It’s a 14 year maximum penalty for stealing a car- the government has always had that in place. The magistrates are simply refusing to apply the law in keeping with community standards. The only thing the government has been slow in is ordering a complete overhaul of these Magistrates.
@wizziamthegreat14 күн бұрын
fun fact, they have been! Did you know that youth crime has been going down for the last 14 years? and that the media has sold you a crisis that doesnt exist? (Australian Bureau of statistics) per 100,000 people, back in 2009 it was at 3000 offenders, its now below 2000, that is 33% less youth crime per capita
@jamesfrench729914 күн бұрын
Let’s keep going then. They know right from wrong, being bad is always a decision.
@450tank13 күн бұрын
@@MLR884 14 years might be a maximum penalty but they don't get 14 years. They rarely get sent to detention centres. Labor watered down youth justice laws in 2015. Repeat offenders were being released from court to steal again hours or days later, regardless of their history under QLD labor govt from 2015. I know this because I live in one of the towns affected by youth crime. The police here couldn't be bothered doing anything about them most of the time because they are same offenders again and again who are released on bail regardless of how many times they have offended. In QLD, vehicle theft is classed as Unlawful Use Of A Motor Vehicle. Not theft.

We are now learning that the new laws don’t cover “attempted murder”. After the very recent Coles stabbing incident in Yamanto a suburb of Ipswich. Perpetrated by a 13 year old male. Someone was not paying attention when writing the new laws. How it got passed like that is insane. So this kid is likely to walk free should the lady in question survive her horrific injury. Not just a tap on the back but the knife was shoved with such force he left it in there and fled. Disgusting.
