Nice work Andrew. Don't worry about the weight. My X-Dream F5 RES (same size as yours) weighs 474g RTF and I could take 20g off that easily, but it absolutely doesn't need to be any floatier, plus as mine has a motor, yours has a slimmer profile. One thing to watch out for - don't go overspeed, the wings will warp and bad things will ensue. Use those spoilers. Good luck with the maiden, you're going to love it.

Looks amazing, well done! If you like it, I recommend the Introduction F5J from Hollein. Bigger, beautiful, and I think the same person cuts the wood and packages the box: Grüner CNC. Apparently Grüner is a real dude who is quite nice to meet -- if you fly in Germany, you can actually meet him :)

Nice smile! A great sign of an excellent build. With translucent colour she looks spectacular. Mateksys offers a "Voltage Booster, 1S Li to 5V" SKU: VB2A5V that converts 1S to 5 volts. It weighs just 1-2g and combined with 18650 (or smaller) would provide hours of flying. Alternative similar Voltage Booster Regulation Module circuits are easily found online. There are also good 2s battery choices common for small quad drones.

The perfect battery is a GP Akkupack 400mAh/4,8V L2x2 Uni Stange, but they don't seem to exist here in Aus

If curious of Li-Po battery internals, @Chris Rosser recently did a number of teardowns to analyze, and made some comparisons.

Presumably you calibrate the voltage sensor on that Radiomaster Rx and then set up an alarm for low RxBat voltage?

Well done Andrew, impressive build time. Looks great. Sounds like it needs longer nose or lighter tails. I run 1s on all my non powered RES gliders. Look forward to maiden. Don't discount a tow hook either for flat field fun and small bungee.

Looks terrific! I'm sure it will give you some impressive flight performance. My only quarrel with the RES designers is this: Give me another 3 or 5 mm of width the the fuselage! I'm sure it wouldn't hurt the performance of the aircraft too much and many designs are just too tight. I look forward to seeing the flight video!

Not a build for the noobs, Ay? Lol Reminds of a documentary about a human powered airplane crossing the English Channel. There was a story that some mythical creature flew that gap. They pretty much made a giant version of this plane, with room for a world class cyclist, to fly over the channel. I highly recommend it, it’s a worthwhile video, from the 90s I think. Not sure what it’s called tho, but it is here.

Courtesy of Mr Google - "On June 12, 1979, the Gossamer Albatross became the first fully human-powered aircraft to cross the English Channel. The 70-lb aircraft completed the 26-mile flight in 2 hours, 49 minutes, clinching the second prestigious Kremer Prize for Dr. Paul MacCready. ... Pilot was Bryan Allen." 😉😊

5:30 because CF is heavy and because the dom of CF tube cannot be optimized, its use for any purpose is not recommended.! it appears that LIGHTER pushrods could have been Fabricated; using short lengths of steel wire and wood/bamboo.! d
