Hello Seriously Creative :), My names May and from my personal experience as a watercolor artist I think I may be able to help understand why the resin pieces made with Alcohol inks changed so drastically. I always choose watercolor made with pigment and not dyes because dyes are not lightfast and most pigments are. Light fast is how long a color will stay vibrant while being exposed to Sun light. Although your blinds were closed it is possible that the dyes in those alcohol inks were of such low quality that being exposed to little sunlight made them disappear. I hope this helps and that you try new inks and look into the ingredients more because the effect seemed very cool and I would love to see more of your work. Sincerely, May

Thanks for doing this! I took some notes for myself on the colours but figured I'd share in case others wanted to use them too! Resin Colouring Used: 1:47 , 13:02 Acrylic Pigment Ink: Bright, pigmented colours. 3:23 , 9:19 Acrylic Paint: Doesn't mix very well, light colour 4:41 , 12:00 Mica Powders: Can brush this right into the mold, works well with a lot of detail. Pale colour 6:39 , 9:42 Alcohol Ink: not true to colour when mixed into resin (fades a lot see: 11:03)

Thank you so much for the tips- Ive been driving myself crazy trying to figure out the petri-dish technique for this fairy moon piece & you have the EXACT same colors (& brands) that I have available and wanted to try baja blue, passion purple, magenta & pearl. I LOVE how yours turned out! Another thing you put into perspective for me in this video: I like to 'paint my pieces backs and sides with golden mica. Ive only ever done this on smooth flat surfaces and it never comes out even. Ive already spent DAYS painting my piece with gold mica and wondering how to apply these EXACT three colors. Its my first big piece, this tutorial is just what I needed. I really appreciate these artists coming out to help other artists.

Yes, I’ve used acrylic paints before and even chalkboard paint to color my resin when I’m in a pinch. I do believe your correct about the powder but I will say that the paints come out more opaque where as the alcohol inks are more translucent. Haven’t had a chance to work with pigment pastes yet but i will be here in the near future. Thanks for the video.

This is a really great comparison video! I've always been curious about mixing alcohol ink into resin instead of dropping it in, good to know it changes colour and fades a lot so I don't need to try it. I use a white pigment paste in some pieces with acrylic ink to make pieces opaque or make them pastel and it works very well! If you're looking for pigment paste or pigment powders take a look at art tree creations and see if anything interests you :)

Very interesting that the alcohol inks faded. I can hardly wait for you to get your hands on the India inks, pigment paste, and pigment powder. Those look like a lot of fun! I think the powder will do well because it would 'melt' into the resin like the mica powder. But let's experiment when younger the chance. Keep up the great work! 😆

Great presentation of a variety of resin coloring. Gave me a good insight into which ones I would rather use. Noticed the mica one (which I will be using to make my first small trinket box) was a bit light, which is good. I will remember to add more powder to make it a deeper richer color. Thanks again for sharing...

I tried using the pinata pink in the latest project I did (resin and burl lamp) and I had to use nearly half the bottle for approximately one litre of resin, it also was a nightmare to mix. It wouldnt mix in the resin very well, it stayed in tiny particles. I have to take it out of the mould tomorrow and see how it looks cured.

These companies should make alcohol inks for resin that don't fade since they fade out and a lot of resin crafters use it but they don't tell you what happens when it's left out for a few days. Steve MacDonald has a video showing the alcohol inks fading as well. Ty for a great insightful video.

Hello! Thank you for the video, it was very nice. I began to experiment with resin some months ago and I bought some resin colors and some mica powders. When mixing resin and resin colors, the resin tends to remain so soft and flexible even after a week (if I touch it, my fingerprints remain). I thought that maybe I put too much colorant, but even if I put a single drop, the resin was soft and extremely flexible. I'm quite sure about the two resin components, so I was wondering if it's a normal thing to happen or if anyone has a suggestion.

I bought some of the same brand of alcohol ink, and I've personally found that it's only the pink and purple that look different in the resin. They're true to colour on paper, so I think they must be reacting with the resin in some way. I tried to 'rescue' some pink (because it went an unpleasantly bright fluoro colour) by adding blue, but it went the same brown-ish purple as the purple ink. Your pink actually looked orange, but I assume this is just the video camera not being able to catch the fluoro thing Because of this, I bought a set of proper resin dye, but I found both pinks from that also got unpleasantly bright when mixed into the resin, though one didn't go all the way to fluoro. The red was gorgeous though, so I know next time I can make a decent purple. Given that other comments have mentioned success with other water-based media, it occurs to me that your issues with mixing in acrylic paint may simply be a texture matter. Might be worth trying a thinner paint, perhaps? Such as one designed for pouring art?
@SeriouslyCreative
@SeriouslyCreative 4 жыл бұрын
Hey thank you for such a detailed comment :) Yes i agree about the paint, i have a few now that seem to work well. As for the ink, i believe it is really not meant for use with resin (maybe just as a petrie dish technique but not actually mixed in.) The resin pigments i brought from Ali express are all pretty good and true to colour, except for the orange which turns brown. Its a matter of trying out different colours i suppose.

Resin doesn't usually stay put, as the chemical reaction takes places the resin is in a constant state of movement. I'd probably recommend putting a layer off resin, let it cure, then paint on the flowers, and do another layer.

I let it set completely! Then i glued the magnets on and added a tiny layer of clear resin to hold it on

I tried putting clear resin in a mold then doing drops of the epoxy resin color liquid stuff and it won’t cure! Someone please help me! What do I do to fix it or what did I do wrong?

I absolutely love your channel! I have a question tho. When I use clear resin, it always gets a little yellowish a few days after I pour it, even though I don't let my pieces on the sunlight. Do you know what could cause that?

Hey, thanks! I have no idea I've never had that issue... it might be just the brand of resin?

A lot of resins yellow, find a brand that stays clear. I've heard 1:1 ratio resin is best for clarity and that resin with extra hardener/fast cure resins yellow more. I am newish to resin work though so that info is from research not from experience, I use "art 'n glow" resin and have never had yellowing.

The video this question came to mind for had the comments turned off so. If the resin doesn't cure right and we end up with a gummy piece, are we able to just throw it away?

Maybe added too much ink? Alcohol is a resin solvent, which means it breaks it down-adding too much will mean it doesn't cure properly..

Also for the dirty pour one, I think your resin might be too thin so that's why you didn't really see the effect. Maybe wait til the resin is almost at the end of its pot time and then pour the resin into each other in the cup and then pour it into the mold. That's at least what I do. :)

Ahh okay... i think maybe there wasn't a lot of pigment in the mica so you couldn't see it very well
