I've never done an ocean or wave piece but I've done resin pieces on canvases. I'd suggest cleaning up the edges before they cure. That's one of the things I need to work on. Beautiful waves!

Oh wow thanks for the tip about the white resin and letting it sit because I’m pouring the white resin and blowing it immediately and it’s just like blowing water so I’m going to try letting it sit like you recommended. Great video thank you so much

THANK YOU!!!! I CANNOT MASTER THE INLET WHITE LACING, WHILE KEEPING THE WHITE EDGE!!!! I did just receive my jr white and cannot wait to try!! It has always just blurred out. I will try and let it sit to a thicker state and hope this works. Also, you are the first one who has said a low heat, but high speed to blow out. Now if I can just get the angle right to leave the edge and blow out to the fine lacing! You definitely have a ew stalker fan!!!
@MichelleTraceyArt2 жыл бұрын
Ha ha I love stalkers! Glad I could help. I typically leave my heat gun on a low - med heat so I don't burn the resin or create dimples from too much heat. Should you find you still cannot achieve lacing it could be the combination of resin and white pigment brand. They are not all compatible. Thank you Taylor! Best of luck! 💙

Excellent video. Sort and to the point. And I would comment on the miss perception that one needs to sand epoxy between coats if it gets hard. That really only applies for engineered applications. It is in the design of epoxy to stick quite well to just about anything. I have also found from sanding and polishing epoxy that even the fastest setting epoxy takes a minimum of three days to reach ninety five percent hardness and a week to ten days to fully cure. I suggest that you do a test by dripping some drops on some hardened epoxy and let that set a week and see if you can pop it off with a razor knife. Unless your epoxy has a substantial wax agent in it, it will not likely separate. And if it has the wax that can be removed with soap and water or a dewaxer in lew of sanding The wax agent is what makes resin shiny.

Best tutorial -you get right to it ! my question is 1)put down a clear layer of resin then a line of white ? 2) Is the white applied directly or mix it with clear resin first then apply it ? 3). Can resin sit bet layers or must I make a new batch for every wave? I’m Doing this wrong I think !

Castin craft is not compatible with art resin. Try changing one of them. 🌷

Hey, loved the video and your Techniques. I have tried my hands on the ocean waves but failed every time. How thick does the white pigment hAve to be to form lacings? I wait till it becomes like sugar syrup consistency, but the rest of the poured resin on the board thickens too and it becomes very hard to move the resin. It would simply spread on the entire board like clouds (no lacing or cells). What am I missing here please?

Thank you so much for your generosity in sharing your techniques and equally important, the materials used. I am very excited about trying this myself as a fledgling self-taught art student (in my 70's...never too late.) You have inspired me with great enthusiasm, and I cannot amply express what this will mean for me. I have wanted to attempt a dimensional nautical painting, but didn't know how to go about it. Thank you from the bottom of my heart!

Thanks for the tip ...that we have to wait for 15 mins before pouring .... which includes even white pigment that too has to be mixed together and wait for 15 mins ... correct?

I noticed that you ran the white line directly over the clear resin line. I'll try that. My resin refuses to form the bubble foam look. I've tried using the lighter torch as well, with no luck.

Great job, congratulations, one question: how much time did you wait when putting the white line and blowing it?
@MichelleTraceyArt3 жыл бұрын
For the third wave, I waited about 10 mins for the white to thicken prior to pouring. Its important that the white is thick. Thank you Jonathon for the positive support!!

Love your videos especially a fellow Aussie. Im a bit disheartened! I have all the gear and not much idea... ive only started a week or so. My predicament is its winter here in country Victoria and im making these in my garden shed... The resin does take a bit longer to dry fully... I can get the Blues and clear sorted on my board but my white is a disaster.. when ever i try a wave its all thin and wishy washy... my first resin i bought it all caught fire but i have a really good one now with no odour... can you please give me a link or list as to all your colours you use for wave art? and any advice you think i need? Im practicing on small cutting boards until i get it right! thanks in advance...Stevie x

Hi, the ration depends on the brand of resin. Art Resin uses 1:1 ratio. Check the instructions. I hope this answers your question?

Can i ask if you mixed up clear and white resin at the same time? I believe that when we add pigments to resin it thicken quicker.. so am i right thinking that mixing them ip at the same time is the right thing to do..?
@MichelleTraceyArt2 жыл бұрын
I always mix my white first then let it sit for about 10 -15 minutes after I've poured my coloured pigments. Depending how long it has taken to pour the colours. I hope this makes sense? Thanks 💙

My heat gun was just a cheap one from Ebay. It doesn't have a brand name. Its 2000W with an adjustable fan and heat setting. It came with the compressor nozzle. Be sure to get one that you can adjust the fan speed. I hope this helps. Thanks!

With regard to the wood panel, what is the thickness, and is this something you can get from any store like Home Depot, or is it a special grade of plywood specifically for art? Thank you in advance.
@MichelleTraceyArt2 жыл бұрын
It's a wood panel purchased from an art shop specifically for art. You may need to prime the board with a clear gesso first. Some woods may cause the resin to discolour down the track and may cause tiny bubble clusters. Gesso helps.

Just double check on wait times between pour. You said you waited 8hrs then 12hrs without sanding. Am I understanding that correctly. And is 5hrs too soon?
@MichelleTraceyArt3 жыл бұрын
Yes, you are correct. I find 8-12 hours is a good time to pour another layer with Art Resin. Preferably 12. That way the resin is very firm but still tacky. If its too soft the wave will absorb somewhat into the layer beneath. Meaning the wave won't be very 3 dimensional. It will be flatter. Alternatively, these days I let each layer dry for 24 hrs between coats. Sanding between coats. I hope this helps. Thanks! ⭐💙⭐
@werhuman87982 жыл бұрын
What is your art resin ? It is 1:1 or 2:1. As i understand,it must be 1:1
