Dear Janis. I have loved your songs for many years. This song needs to be the song of this generation. Time for women to take back their rights. This is music.

Just found out that Janis lost her voice to some non-covid virus and had to retire. I've been a huge fan since 1967. I'm sad for Janis, just like I was sad for Linda Ronstadt. Such a great artist. This song is so Janis. Thank you for over 50 years of great music Janis.❤

I have been a fan of Janis Ian since "at seventeen " . She is my go to for every meaningful event of my life. From my teen years, thru years of depression, thru the happy time, Janis was there with me. I went to her shows a couple times when I could afford it. Was amazing in the 80s and still amazing today. All of my kids are also huge fans from another generation. I feel that introducing my kids to Janis' music was a gift to them. I have never met Janis in person, but I know all her songs. He music has been like a treasure box that I can open at will and it's never empty and it never ceases to give me joy.

Phenomenal song. One of Janis' best, IMO. So powerful. Great lyrics. Great melody. Great arrangment. And is it just me or is the organ riff at the end a nod to Society's Child? I'm telling myself it is and its just brilliant. Gives artists inspiration that we can create at the top of our game at any point in our careers. Thanks Janis.

I could write an essay about this song. It encapsulates my life from age 13-17. I was 12 when it was a hit on the radio, and I remember thinking, it would not happen to me. In two years I would be in high school, and I just knew when I walked into the auditorium for an assembly, all the boys would oogle over me. How wrong I was. I wasn't popular in jr. high; what made me think things would be different in high school? There were two note-worthy popular girls at my high school. There were many popular girls, but two in particular. One was brunette, and everything just seemed to be handed to her: important positions, clubs, and the position of head cheerleader. The other was tall and blonde, and the same credentials. Both were royalties at every occasion. I would go home from school everyday and eat everything in the kitchen. Not because I was hungry, but to fill the void of being ugly and unpopular. In jr. high, I had a best friend, but we went to different high schools. At sleepovers, we would invent boyfriends, and on our nightly phone calls, she would tell me about making out with boys-many of them-including some who went to my school. I jealously fell for it. It wasn't until years later that I realized she was lying. I don't know how I figured this out, but I did. It was a mean trick. On one occasion she tried to set me up with a friend of her cousin's. When he asked her to describe me, she said I was ugly. Nice way to set me up with someone. For over a year I quit talking to her. High school is a cruel place to have to go, especially when hormones are raging. The world was younger, but no different.
