That said, I don't believe they are the ancient tribes of Israel, and if they are, it is to such a diluted extent that it's effectively nil. Meanwhile studies on Levantines have shown that the populations living there now are, to a large extent, genetically continuous from the populations living there since the bronze age. So at the very least, the people living in the region are descendants of the ancient Canaanites/Israelites, especially in Palestine and to a lesser extent the surrounding countries.

There is too much talk of war. The primary objective should be to bring about a lasting peace to our region. Nature imitating art? In the mid-1960s, there was a U.S. television series called, "Star Trek" in which there was an episode entitled, "Let this be Your Last Battlefield". The storyline is a morality play that told of an alien planet called "Cheron". On this planet there lived a people that were alike in every way except one group was black and white on one side and the other is white and black on the other. There was a conflict between the two ethnic groups that went on for a very long time. One of the members, Lokai, a political prisoner tried fleeing into space and was pursued by Bele, a security police from the opposite side. There in outer space, they were intercepted by the starship, USS Enterprise. The upshot of the story was that when the two antagonists were finally returned to their planet, they found that the entire planet has become desolate because the two people have decimated and eliminated each other completely. Lokai escapes down to the now empty planet and Bele follows in pursuit where the two last remaining species if their kind, continues their war against each other, fighting to the very bitter end. Will this be the end story of Palestine-Israel? The final closing of the book will be only when both sides have exterminated each other totally? The truth of the matter is that even if Israel eliminates Hamas and kills 95% or even 98% of the Palestinian civilians in the process, the thread of hatred will live on and the flames of Hamas will burn in the survivors and their descendants for justice which has been denied them and their people. An eye for an eye makes the whole world blind and a life for a life ends all lives in the end. The two sides have to compromise and submerge their innate hatreds and bias against one another. Call it quits and wipe the slate clean and not one another. The Palestinians should be given what they want in having their own sovereign homeland. Plain and simple. Israel is to halt all illegal taking of Palestinian lands and even return some of them. The Palestinians will in return, disavow their aim in eliminating the state of Israel and allow the Jews to live in Israel. If not, there is fear that they will end up like the fictionalized desolate planet of Cheron.
