it is also best to mention that resolutions are tonal center of the leading tone. note when walking chords use close cords for proper voice leading ( inversions).

I love the content Sean, feels weird saying that haha, but you doing these vids reinforces a lot of stuff and gives a clear and understandable link to theory in music, really helpful as I've started writing my own stuff recently, thank you, the un-sung hero of KZbin guitar lessons :) keep up the great work man

Good stuff man. E7 to Am works because in minor the leading tone or a half step to the root G# to A is almost always used, the Harmonic Minor Scale.

When you use a dominant chord (one not found in the key) aka secondary dominant to go to another chord like that i believe its called tonicization. :)

What I don't get is why a dominant 7 (maj triad + minor 7) is so common yet a minor triad + major 7 isnt? Just doesn't seem symmetrical to me? Find your vids really useful Sean thank you!
@seandaniel236 жыл бұрын
It's really just the spacing of the intervals. That major 7 rubbing up against the root note in addition to the minor 3rd just isn't as pleasing I guess. But there's still a place for it!

Do you feel eating ears of other musicians help your tone, also how would you force a chord progression to resolve on other chords in a key for more modal playing? Do you just riff/ play a chord from the mode and that naturally makes it resolve somewhere else or is there more to it?
@seandaniel237 жыл бұрын
I personally think tone is in the hands, so I usually eat the fingers. I think it's a combination of avoiding the 'I' chord and hammering into whatever is special about the mode you're working in (like really go after that flat 7 for a mixolydian vibe).

Thanks for the info! Didn't realize the dominant 7 would be the 5 chord. For a blues progression, should that 5 always be dominant 7 chord, or can it be a regular major chord?
@seandaniel237 жыл бұрын
It can for sure be a regular major chord. You can always replace a dom7 with a major chord, adding the 7 might make it sound bluesier though :)

Hey Sean, if I'm playing a chord progression that goes like C7 - Fsus4 - F should I use C Ionian or C Mixolydian? Is the B tone too much of a dissonance? I'm trying to make a melody and Ionian doesn't sound right. What other scales can I use?
@seandaniel237 жыл бұрын
I wouldn't say it's 'too' dissonant, but I think C mixolydian is a better choice. Personally I'd think of it more as an F Ionian or D minor type thing, but choosing which notes to embellish and what shapes to get into are what really gives you a unique voice as a player :)
@chadhubbard62177 жыл бұрын
its a good idea to think about if you care about the people listening 'at all'. that line 😂😂😂😂. leaving a song on a cliff hanger....not the best way to gain support.
