interesante, entonces básicamente se da la resonancia cuando la frecuencia natural de la estructura coincide con la frecuencia que se le da con la maquina ese.

Find the resonance equation in the big building and apply the anti resonance to it as it occurs to cancel it out.

Hello Sam, thank you for your interest in earthquakes and resonances, and sorry for my english. I have only made an analogical modelling of eartquakes resonance for my highschool's students. I asked to the Joseph Fourier University of my country (Grenoble France) if my modelling was right. They asked me that if I put a very big mass on the top of a building, it was as if I create a node, because of the inerti. So when it is a node, for a lot of frequency, it does not move. But you know, I am only a French teacher, and now, an old man. I am sure that you will give me the equations, to help everybody. I will put it in this website sismobox.com Thank you Sam, and I hope your response, numeric simulation and explanations. François.

But why we're putting masses for the moderately high rise building...what's the significance?
@francoistilquin74474 жыл бұрын
A big mass upon the building changes the anti-node in a node of vibration. And in Tapei tower, the big mass is used as an inertial system which allows to push or pull on it to decreas buildings vibration. sismobox.com

Thank you for the video this will help build future foundations safer. Assuming anearthquake with a flexible mass which is a better place to store the mass - on top or in middle?
@francoistilquin74476 жыл бұрын
It is a complex question. if you put the mass at the anti-node of the stationnary wave in the building, you tranform it imore or less in a node. Normaly in an earthquake all frequencies are present but sometimes certain frequencies are more amplified than others, in the ground: see at this position of the website sismobox.com/#building_resonance (8th picture below the chapter with Fourier transform) Just a few picture after you have the 2 main resonance modes: lamda/4 or 3 lamda/4: the antibody is on the top or at the 1/3 position from the bottom. If you know the frequencies présent in the usual earthquakes in your country, you can know if your building is going to resonate at thoses frequencies, and put a mass at the position of the anti-node. Generally the mass is put on the top. see my website to undertand the complexity and the orher way to protect against resonance as Tapei tower.: sismobox.com Best regards François Tilquin You have to know what are

How do you explain, what resonance is?
@francoistilquin74474 жыл бұрын
Hi Peter, of course i dont explain the resonance because of the level of children (11 to 16 years old). I only show the phenomenon, but the reality is that it depends of the speed of the wave in the building, the fact of the free vibration of the top (wich makes an antinode of resonance on the top) and the stationnary waves. It seemed to be too complex to show equations for the pupils. I only show that il the building is short, it resonnates with a heigh frequency, and with a heigh level, the buiding resonnates with a low frequency... It is not a linear rule, wich can be shown on my website (the singing rule) sismobox.com Best regards Peter. François

thank you for this awesome video, you have inspired me in my research concerning the vibration of bridges. sir, I want to make a simple system that detects the probable resonance of a bridge and use that system to commend a solution that helps prevent the resonance. do you think that this solution of a moving mass can also word as prevention of resonance of bridges? thank you a lot
@francoistilquin74473 жыл бұрын
Hello sir, this video and all systems which are described at the following website, are education examples: sismobox.com. Those models have been seen by scientists and validated for using by students, but of course, thoses models are simple and open to criticism if you would like to use it for real buidings or bridges. The moving mass you saw on the video is a simple model of the Taipei tower which is visible few lines below this adress: sismobox.com/#TESTING_RESISTANCE The all system and the way to build it are described on the website, and at the end of it you have the devices you can buy to buid the system. It would be easier to continue this discussion by mail: francois.tilquin.38@gmail.com Best regards. François Tilquin
