Mr. KZbinr: Hunter's lodge gives you a very decent amount of food (+300 per turn) Me: My armies in the early game need 8500 food per turn.

Once gold is depleated, it produces 10% of what it did before. The 4th building would take around 30 turns to repay itself. I usually go for the first, third and fifth, giving me around 8 gold per turn for one settlement once depleted. The third is amazing when playing Odysseus who has a gold producing special building.

A depleted gold mine will still generate 10% of the total gold being generated by the gold producing buildings in the settlement and this base 10% will also be boosted by any relevant %resource buildings from the local region and province and global bonuses. So as an example, a gold settlement building the 1st and 5th buildings would still generate 9 gold per turn before any bonuses and the 4th building that costs gold would generate another 10 gold per turn and pay for itself in gold terms within 20 turns. This is before you consider any 20% local bonus buildings you could build or province and global bonuses. It also does not take into account any construction cost reductions you can get from envoy (up to 30%) and decrees/buildings that would further reduce gold building costs generally allowing your gold to go further. Its easily possible to have a depleted gold deposit settlement generate 30+ gold per turn. Given gold is a difficult to obtain resource then building at least the 1st, 3rd and 5th building in a gold settlement is worthwhile I think and an argument could be made for building the 4th one that even costs gold if you consider reducing the resource cost with agents and other mechanisms to get the breakeven turn time down from 20 turns depending on how many more turns you have left in your campaign.

So 10% of the base gold from the depleted will still be produced! That’s great news! Wish I knew about this during my Achilles campaign as I turned more gold settlements into defensive or military ones

@@SeriousTrivia If you tooltip over the gold symbol in the settlement panel then it does mention the 10% but its easy to miss just like many other things in these games :) I noticed it when I took over my first gold settlement in my Achilles campaign at launch and was surprised the settlement was still generating about 5 gold per turn at tier 2 and then found the tooltip. I should have also mentioned that your video was very useful. You are always very thorough and discuss the pros and cons and I have found your 3k videos really solid and helpful. Keep up the good work.

North from Troy there is a region with harpies + 2 wood settlements, perfect to recruit range.

8:45 it's weird, since the 2nd chain is my go-to building for pretty much everywhere outside my top 3 provinces.. there are only 2 chains in-game that use influence, the 1st and the 4th.. the 4th chain is too expensive to build in large number, and I only use that for bronze (wood and stone can wait 1 more turn, while food is plentiful anyway).. the 1st chain is just.. bad - even at high influence, they only provide 170 food, compared with 200 food of the 2nd chain - so why bother? (not to mention the amount of work you need to maintain high influence outside your culture's heartland - influence is simply not worth it) also, the 3rd chain is worth spamming everywhere bigger than 1 region, unless you plan to play tall, due to the 1% bonus - and it will get better with every new region you conquest.. for example, with 20 food settlements, you can have 20% faction-wise boost for food buildings everywhere - on top of the 20% for local resource.. and you only lose out 60 food (200 [2nd chain] - (240 [settlement] + 160 [harbor] + 300 [5th chain])x20%) for coastal settlements, and 22 food (170 [1st chain] - (240 [settlement] + 200 [2nd chain] + 300 [5th chain])x20%) for inland settlements - and it also boost production of other settlements in the same province! so my building strategy is always 2nd chain/harbor - 3rd chain - 1st chain as placeholder, replace with 5th chain when possible.. for bronze settlement i may replace the 2nd chain with the 4th, but that pretty much it..

You end up making so much less with that strategy which basically translate to let’s not worry about economy and just get whatever we can with minimal effort while I tend to always try to maximize my economy

@@SeriousTrivia how so, though? unless you use the 4th chain (which cost gold to build), then I found the high influence strategy is not as good as the ignore influence strategy, resource-wise. let just use 2 provinces as an example: Sarpedon's starting province and Aenas's province, with buildings in their max level. My building strategy is as follow: port/2nd chain (low influence) + 3rd chain (% boost) + 5th chain (low growth) For Sarpedon's province (1 coastal settlement, 1 coastal stone, and 1 inland food - a run-of-the-mill province), i can produce: 1.632 food [(240 + 200 + 300 + 160x2) x 1,54] 246 stone [(72 + 88) x 1.54] with the 54% come from 2 ports (7% each) and 2 % boost buildings (20% each). For Aenas's province (1 coastal settlement, 1 coastal stone, 1 coastal food, and 1 inland wood - a economic powerhouse), I can produce: 1.846 food [(240 + 300 + 160x3) x 1,81] 289 stone [(72 + 88) x 1.81] 566 wood [(96 + 95 + 122) x 1.81] with the 81% come from 3 ports (7% each) and 3 % boost buildings (20% each). And that's not included the 1% faction-wise bonus, the bonus of the 2nd chain; and all that's done with 0 gold and without the need for influence boost building. I don't know for sure how you build these 2 provinces, so i can't run the number for you. Sorry about that. PS: in the original post i've messed up the order, calling the low growth chain the "4th chain" instead of "5th chain".. i've edited the original post - sorry about that.

nam trịnh I would build the fourth and first chain with the third chain to boost. Like why not invest in the powerhouse province?
@oldrabbit8290
@oldrabbit8290 4 жыл бұрын
@@SeriousTrivia just a bit of clarify before I run the number: 1. would you build the 3rd (% boost) chain in a normal (1 main 2 production settlement) province? or is it just for the economic powerhouse? 2. would you build the 4th (the gold cost) chain in a normal province? or is it just for the economic powerhouse? 3. if the settlement is at max level, would you swap an existing chain for the 5th (low growth) chain? if yes, which building chains (1st/3rd/4th) would you swap? 4. if the settlement has a port, which building chains (1st/3rd/4th) would you leave out? about why I didn't build the 4th chain, I just don't feel they worth the gold cost (keyword: feel; I will run the number to see how much different it make).
@SeriousTrivia
@SeriousTrivia 4 жыл бұрын
Just the 3 resource settlement provinces. If there is a port, I would swap out the 1st building and at max building it would be 1,3,4 all at level 3 or 3,4 harbor for harbor ones

Are you going to do a faction guide? As Agememnon, I'm trying to figure out if I should just have everyone as a vassal? Or just conquer outright?

The battles are a bit lacking and the agents are too impactful which only makes the battles even less meaningful
