Excerpts from the diary of Periapsys 7th Decembary, 5501: Attacked by wargs overnight but they were no match for our defenders and fortifications even with the suppression hampering some of our colonists. Around midday our caravan returned with their spoils. Now that the caravaneers have returned I can stop preparing meals for the colony again. It will take days to wash away the scent of the insects I butchered. While I detest treating their corpses so disrespectfully, I detest waste even more so. 10th Decembary: Bubbles was brought online again overnight. The colony contemplated contracting out to some of the local powers, but no plans have been made yet. 13th Decembary: Despite the bad mood among some of the colonists things are going well. I would never admit it to her, but Eelstar produced an item of such outstanding quality I thought myself dreaming when I first saw it. Traders came by and offloaded a lot of surplus sundries for a few provisions and silver, mostly to clear room in the storerooms than for any particular needs. The colony was also treated to a light show as solar activity interacted with this planet’s magnetosphere. Hopefully these traders will not bring more insects to our doorstep when they leave. 14th Decembary: As if sensing the absence of occupying hives a new group of insects arrived this afternoon. Our scout reported that these insects seemed more active than the other hives, so we shall keep an eye out to see if they expand their territory. Perhaps they will breed fast enough to survive the hordes of locals throwing themselves at them. I think I hear the sounds of a warg in the distance and must go to investigate, Eelstar is still outside of the walls. 15th Decmbary: Some sort of scuffle left one of the traders injured and since their companions seemed disinclined to assist them we took the chance to give them shelter and food while they recover. While I find myself vexed by the foolish choices and shortsighted beliefs of some of our neighbours even I can recognise the value in fostering good relations with them where possible. 1st Aprimay, 5502: LittleEclipse reported the new hive had moved out of their cave as he returned to the colony, I can only hope that the hive settles down and returns to their homes. Our plans to control the movement of visitors and invaders along the river will be substantially complicated if there are repeat excursions by the insects. While we had planned to hold a modest celebration to bring in the new year, an attack by the yttakin of Yery forced us to cancel our plans. When we tried to get Dewdrop to help in the defence of the colony we found her binging on psychite tea. I suggested we make a community dinner out of the leftover packaged meals which earned a mean smile from the other colonists. I made sure to thank our new prisoner for his donation to the colony as I tended to his wounds. 2nd Aprimay: One day when the Graven Forge rules this world and I am the leader of the planet, it will be a crime to disturb the insect hives and its punishment shall be death. Maybe then the people of this planet will finally learn to not bother the insects. It is so simple to live in harmony. Yet everyone in this world seems to be possessed by some tribe of Shatterkin that has sundered their brains, rendering them incapable of basic thought and logic. Being unable to vent my incandescent fusion-burning fury on those actually responsible without, incredibly beyond belief, causing a diplomatic incident I had to make do with merely venting it against some of the superstructure of the greenhouses. Someone get these chickens out of the common room before I shoot them!!! 3rd Aprimay: Perhaps the imperials are simply mad, bewitched by the likes of Montoya and Feeb. We have not heard their voices for over a year now and perhaps they now plague the dreams and minds of visitors. I will have to ask some of our imperial guests in our makeshift ward when they recover more. Our prisoner from Yery died which will at least free up a bed for more deserving people, although Rhyzal seemed conflicted about this. The cause eludes me. On a more mysterious note, one of the people passing through left graffiti cursing Marble Hearth and saying they were leaving for good. None of us have no idea who did this nor does anyone care. 4th Aprimay: A man claiming to be my brother came by in the trade caravan today. While I do have a brother, he certainly would not be on this world and this is clearly some sort of attempt to grift the colony. Until I discern the true intent behind this stranger I have decided to humor him and pretend familial affection. He was at least a good enough actor to not seem uncomfortable or surprised by my familiar words. Perhaps he is mad, or possessed by some Stillwalker to test me personally. 5th Aprimay: Whatever madness compels the people of this world to foolish violence and risking their lives struck the caravan this morning. We managed to deescalate the fight and no one was hurt. One of the imperials had not left with his companions and lay weakly on the ground, starving and would have died had we not rescued him. 7th Aprimay: The last of the recovering imperials have now left. I will not miss them. 9th Aprimay: Bloody raiders! (To be continued next episode)

In my mind Bubbles Bot comes back to life like Frosty in the old cartoon movie with a grand declaration of 'HAPPY BIRTHDAY!' before carrying on with building all I can build for Captain Periapsys and the Colony at large. This was a delightful episode! Carry on!

Bubbles was made out of the components used in the curiosity rover. So it knows the happy birthday song from genetic inheritance.

I felt a bit of cognitive dissonance when Aavak mentioned it being awful to go through the pockets of the dead as I have played many games where looting every dead body(and some living ones) is part of how one enriches their fortunes.

* Accessing archive database * * Literature software located * * Initiated * Log #5 Some more of the local fauna attempted to breach our defences, but they were defeated in short order. There was some debate on keeping one of them amongst the colonists, however this plan was decided against due to lack of the appropriate resources. Big Al and Eli did observe one of the humanoids stating that there were enough 'metal pets' in the colony. This comment has been archived in our databases... The furry one continues to survive. In their favour, they were able to trade some waste resources with one of the groups of travelling humanoids. In return, we received a camelid to help provide resources and transport goods, however I feel that this would be vastly inferior to myself and Encrypt in this regard. More insectoid fauna have returned to the area, which is good news for the defence of the colony. Some of the humanoids do not feel this way, however. For some reason, one of them decided to mine steel and nearly ended up as nutrients for the insects when they roused unexpectedly and blocked off the cave entrance for a bit. Thankfully organics require regular sleep, including insectoids, and the colonist managed to get past once they had returned to slumber. More furry humanoids decided to raid, planning to use morters against the colony. As one, the mechanoids immediately went to escort Master to the defence wall. The colonist with the best skill in projectiles attempted to draw the attackers out into range of the others, however this was met with little effect. In the end, Eli and Big Al had to go in and draw their attention before the raid started. While the humanoids stayed at the wall, the mechanoids went into the caves to prevent the attacker's approach. Shortly afterwards, they started to flee. Master gave the order to collect all the resources they dropped or left in their haste. Primary objective, initiated. Amusingly, the common area of the colony has several new avian residents. It seems that at the time that Master summoned us, Encrypt was carrying a large batch of fertilized avian eggs, which subsequently enjoyed the warmth of the common room during the raid. One of them kind of reminds me of Bubbles. Sadly, it appears that yet more of the unprogrammed humanoids wish to risk permanent deactivation by irritating the insectiods. Yet again, a suitable defence is lost due to humanoid stupidity. Thankfully a group of travelling humanoids were able to deal with the group. ...Wait, there's a urgent communication from Big Al and Eli... MASTER IS HURT! INITIATING PROTOCOL SWIFT DEATH! *End Log* Log #6 Master is recovering well, and I found much enjoyment in transporting the mutilated remains of the one that hurt him. It has been decided that for now Big Al shall accompany him everywhere to ensure his safety. While we were dealing with this, some of the Imperial humanoids that helped with the enraged insectoids decided to take out their frustrations on each other. While this has increased the resources of the colony, the fact remains that Master is not getting sufficient rest due to this. In addition, Plumbersmack's cleaning apparatus are started to wear out due to cleaning up all the viscera. Thankfully, the furry one has come in useful yet again and was able to help convince Master to rest for a short while and regain his health. The sinister influence of The Others appears to have some advantages. Some alpha-version humanoids decided to take advantage of the confusion and enthralled by the colony's resources began an attack. Master has decided that for now the utility mechs should focus on our primary objectives while the military mech escort him to the battlefield. I fear that his time repairing us and the pain he has each time we deactivate has taken a toll on him. We are sad at not being able to help, but Big Al and Eli have pledged to us that they will do everything they can to prevent more hard to Master, even at the cost of the other colonists. The gunshots echoed around the crater, and my primary objective has now increased. *End Log*

Aavak once a raid desides to runaway, you have a better chance than normal of captureing a few, if you switch ammo over to been bag rounds and try to prevent them form geting off the map.

With insects, the smol bugs can freeze to death, and any damage to bugs from any source makes them try to retaliate at your colony. Oh, as we're running with mods anyway, you might consider Smarter Construction. All it does is ensures your derps *not* building themselves (or unbuilt corners) into walls, without the need to micromanage it. Aka something that should've been a part of vanilla AI since day one.

Wargs in CE are not, in fact, like mechs. They are, much like ANYTHING not wearing armor and not in cover, dead in two seconds flat when engaging anything using firearms. Especially when people start using LMGs.

During streams I saw my worker mechs demolish most early human raids, then watched as a single warg tore through them like they were made of wax. XD
@endlessstrata698814 күн бұрын
@@Aavak Yeah, that's because Worgs have a highly penetrating attack, just like the insects. That's why Periapsys was downed and half dead with a single attack from the Megaspider. But it has to get to them first, which is an almost impossible task when you have 10 people with automatic weapons firing at your line. Once AP Incendiary or Explosive rounds enter the fray it's game over.

Just speaking HYPOTHETICALLY here (because I have never played this game ... YET) would it be possible/advisable to dig into the riven walls and place some turrets back inside of the mountains and place embracers (two or even three in front of the turret) in front with sandbag and/or traps in front of them.... this way you would have some early pew pew AND if they just run past maybe some "you thought you were safe... HA is say" ...... This way you could funnel them down to where ever you decide for your people to defend the base from... and run hidden conduits for the power Loving the content and looking forward to more .... lol... even IF you think this is a silly/stupid Idea

@Aavak13 күн бұрын
TL;DR version: I'll take your feedback in mind, and really appreciate you offering it. These sorts of things are much more art than science, so getting lots of feedback from my core audience helps me tune it properly :D Longer explanation: Good content is super subjective, but generally if something follows the obvious and predictable route without any real impact on the colonists, I don't include it if I'm already having to make choices between what to include or not based on the amount of footage I have. So a wounded pawn making it off the map safely, without any issues or drama, for example, isn't that impactful. But I'll try to come back if something note worthy that might impact the narrative happens. That said, if a normal thing happening, for some reason, DID impact the narrative in my opinion, then I'd make mention of it at the very least, if not leave it on camera fully.

@Aavak I feel like in some instances it is better to go a bit longer than it is having people (well, me) feel like they can't keep up with what is going on. In general though, I trust you to make good decisions. You usually do. ^^
