Watching in 2024. As a pulmonary patient, I have learned more from you in these 4-part series than literally any other channel out there - and I have watched plenty. Thank you for such a clear understanding. And... especially as it relates to Pulmonary Hypertension at the end of the video. I was originally diagnosed as COPD, but diagnosis has since changed to Asthma. Thanks again.

Just binged watched all four in the series. Great stuff I've had a bit of asthma. When I was young, I was diagnosed with scleroderma 7 yrs ago and developed pulmonary arterial hypertension. Apparently my rheumatologist noticed some pulmonary fibrosis three years ago and didn't tell me? When my insurance changed and I had to get my records for my new rheumatologist I am noticing this and man am I confused… Thank you so much. I am a mathematician and I know a lot about PAH and asthma, but apparently I need to learn about PF too😮

In that last question, could that decreased DLCO also be caused by anemia? I realize that we don't have the Hgb value, but could that also be an option in this scenario if everything else is normal and it's clear there's no lung disease at play?

Here is a silly question without looking it up, how do we correct DLco to hg?

What will happen to dead space in shallow and deep breathing?
@RespiratoryCoach4 жыл бұрын
Hi, shallow doesn't change the amount of deadspace, but what does change is the percent of deadspace. For example, a patient with 120ml of deadspace, breathing a tidal volume of 500, equals a Vd/Vt of 120/500 = .24 or 24% deadspace. Alveolar tidal volume in this example is 380 mL. Now take the same patient, 120 mL of deadspace, breathing a tidal volume of 240, much smaller right? This patient's deadspace is the same amount as the previous example, but their Vd/Vt = 50%. This patient's alveolar tidal volume is 120 mL (240-120). So this illustrates that shallow breathing doesn't change the amount of deadspace, but it directly impacts Vd/Vt and alveolar tidal volume. Hope that makes sense and helps. Thanks for watching and asking your question.
