I completely agree. To value yourself mostly as a wife or mother rather than a person sounds like a kind of objectification to me. Small kids see their parents mostly as an extention of themselves and not as individuals with their own lives, but then we grow up and we start seing them as independant, real people just like ourselves. I can't imagine being grown up and thinking of yourself as an extention of other people first and foremost. I think conservative women would get a lot from reading The Feminine Mystique, it's old but it can still be liberating for someone who is stuck in that mindset.

And the speaker asks the audience questions like, "don't you want to be rich? Don't you want a hot wife or husband? Don't you want to be happy for once in your miserable life?" And of course everyone thinks, "yes" to some capacity... And then they hit you with the big lie now that you're all buttered up because you're thinking about how this person is about to to explain a sure fire way to acquire those things in your life. But, all they really do is trick you into buying into the starter package for the pyramid scheme and a week or 2 later you realize this is bullshit, I'm never going to get those things by doing this. And you blame yourself and blame the economy and the system and more. But, really you're just holding on to this lie of a perfect life that was sold to you, in a way, by yourself. All that to say, Abby Shapiro is like that. You can be whoever you want to be as long as it's like what I am describing. Just because someone says the words, "freedom, respect," does not inherently mean that everything else they say is reflective of those words.

I think there’s difference between seeking “like-mindedness” and absolute conformity. From what I gather, “leftists” seem to seek acceptance for a variety of human expression and ask for tolerance of diversity, while the “right” tends to idealize only specific, yet nebulous, forms of expression. The next argument is “well the left doesn’t tolerate the ideas of the right,” and I would say that tolerance of intolerance is just intolerance.
@user-nb5uw5ui9i4 жыл бұрын
@@pleasedonotwatchmychannel no, if you say you tolerate everything but "intolerance" then you are not tolerant. Like what stuff from the right do you find intolerant? As a cis hetero male, I weirdly find it a bit insulting that someone would think "modestly dressed" women are somehow less targeted. Like, I think as myself as a fairly switched on feminist guy, but in the moments in my life where I slip and find myself ogling women in the street it's generally nothing to do with how they're dressed, but more their shape or their face or their general demeanour. I don't know. Maybe it's because I'm 30 and have a more chilled approach to the opposite sex, but the very idea that "modesty" somehow tricks the male psyche is kind of insulting.
@LezbeOswald4 жыл бұрын
quite frankly, men who sexualize women are going to sexualize them regardless of what they wear. they'll find anything to sexualize.
@MaplePolarBear9214 жыл бұрын
And honestly, I don’t think there’s anything wrong with sexualization, like as in finding people sexually attractive. It’s when that turns into objectification & they’re no longer treated like autonomous human beings that there becomes a problem 👍🏼
@Halokon4 жыл бұрын
And when you add fetishes in to the mix, something as simple as walking barefoot, a fairly innocuous thing, can end up you having to play a role in a Tarantino film, and not one of the good ones. There’s nothing wrong with having that fetish (even if I don’t get it), but it’s the removal of body parts from the person they’re attached to (figuratively, but literally would also be a problem) that goes over the line of acceptability. Being physically attracted to a person is not even really a choice, so it’s always okay, but everything after that is a choice, and no amount of biology excuses objectification or assault etc. They made the choice to value their own feelings more than the target of their abuse.

There's no way to imply respect is only given to women by covering up without giving all the credit to the clothes and none to her personality, which goes against what Abby is trying to say. If in her world men can't respect women without them wearing the proper clothing, that's terrifying, misogynistic, and needs to change, not something she should adhere to out of fear.

Most of the outfits are not even close to what could be considered sexy attire... and among the motley clothes, there is a child’s school uniform. Blaming the victim for choosing "the wrong cloths" is fucking disgusting. Women are extremely sexual we're just shamed for it unlike men who are encouraged
@GTAVictor91284 жыл бұрын
@@athenajaxon2397 Actually, the exact opposite is true. There's a reason why when a man touches a woman inappropriately, it's considered as sexual harassment, whereas if a woman touches a man inappropriately, it's considered "being spicey". There's a reason why the ®@pe of women is taken very seriously, while the ®@pe of men is often joked about in the media. In fact, there are a number movies where a man gets ®@ped by a woman, and the scene is meant to be "hilarious".

Me, a straight guy at a topless beach: "Why would I ever oppose this?"
@athenajaxon23974 жыл бұрын
@@GTAVictor9128 that's not what I said at all, men are encouraged to be sexual, have sex and be a ladies man. When a guy has a one night stand he's congratulated, when a woman does it she's called a slut. Chris Evans nudes were leaked and no one shamed him for it but a females nudes are leaked and she's slut shamed. An elementary school teacher actually lost her job because her nudes were leaked without her permission. Men are constantly praised for being sexual creatures while women aren't

There have been times and places where Abby’s uncovered hair and use of makeup would be considered unacceptably immodest. What if we worked for a society where people could wear burqas side-by-side with people who are completely naked and nobody gave anybody any shit about how they were (un)dressed?

For real. My first thought when he showed clips of her was "what's wrong with her mouth".

It’s just this very performative, over-expressive way she talks. I’m sure her rich as shit family focus tested her videos and it came back saying she was dead-eyed and creepy, so she’s probably just trying to take that note.

exactly! her saying that men are "visual creatures" just shows she sees them as animals which is pretty insulting.

The whole world: Ben Shapiro is the most conservative conservative on the internet. Classically Abby's channel exists: *a new challenger approaches*

Ben is far from the most conservative. That is what's scary.

Ben has to at least pay lip service to the “I’m the new breed of rebel conservative badass” thing, which while absolutely hilarious is one of the only tactics they’ve been successful with to siren-call some younger people over to their side. And that act means he at least has to pretend to not be 100% stodgy and repressed and restrictive and lame.
