I'm an Anglican Priest in the Diocese of Nova Scotia and Prince Edward Island and I get to serve in the Parish of St Margaret of Scotland, in the beautiful city of Halifax, NS, that sits on the ancestral and unceded territory of the Mi'kmaq people.
My pronouns are he/him/his. My theology is primarily Christo-centric - Jesus is at the centre and it is against Him that all values are bounced off. I believe all people are created in the image of God and are children of God and are heirs to the throne of God - no conditions - therefore every single person we meet deserves our love, and respect.

Not a religious man, but I'm thankful for you. Your talks have provided an opportunity for my Christian parents to become more open minded, and to internally confront their biases and the faulty interpretations of Christianity that they've been taught. 2 years ago they might have passively agreed with the ass-hats, but now they ask how my trans friends are doing, and express their anger at how the lgbtq+ community is treated. Be encouraged, Pastor Ed. You're making a positive impact.

My grandfather was a minister. He was the most humble, caring man I've ever known. I've worn his wedding ring on my index finger for 48 years, that's when he passed away. May 8, 1974. I miss him. To your point, I've been to one of those asshat churches with a friend years ago. The spirit I felt in that church was so vile it scared me. I was only there no more than 10 minutes. I went and sat in the car and waited for the service to end and my friend to come out. We had a long conversation about it. After that night , she decided we were no longer friends. I don't know what it is about those churches that have such a hold on people. I do know there are alot of them and they're polluting the teachings of Christ with their own lies and propaganda.
@rylian21

They have a hold on people because it gives them permission to be their worst, gives a sense of righteousness to their hate, and twists Jesus into their own image such that they don't have to change their ways or ever admit that they were wrong... and it feels good. It makes them feel strong and empowered. Buit it is the spirit of Satan working in those congregations. Heck, I've known actual luciferians who were better human beings than that ilk.

I've downloaded this vlog so I can listen to it over & over until I can pull it out when needed. The bigots just about had me convinced that I didn't understand God at all. That's when I prayed for God's guidance to tell me that I was wrong for my beliefs. He lead me to your words that tells me that ALL my beliefs are valid!!! I live in the big, fat, Republican buckle of the Bible Belt, and I understand exactly where you're coming from. I went to God years ago with the same misgiving you have, when I was told we were to "Love the sinner, hate the sin." He told me, "You don't have a dog in this fight. This is between me and my child." (In an instant I got this whole wave of my own sin, showing me the mess in my own life.) "I didn't call you to judge them. Get off the fence, and love them!" Most of the "Thou Shalt Not"s of the Bible, are for the believer, and the reader--not the gentile, or those of other beliefs. God holds us to a high standard. Homosexuality in the Bible wasn't a loving relationship between two adults. It was often a master/servant abuse, rape, child abuse, or a pagan practice. For all those wanting to preach against it, JESUS didn't mention it. He DID preach against divorce--but...that's a sin most of these preachers accept. Don't let anyone give you grief over this. I always say, if I'm going to be judged by God, I'd rather be found too loving, than not loving enough.

Back in the 70's I attended a Roman Catholic school, from kindergarten to 6th grade. Guessing there was some incident because, one day one of the priest walked into the class unannounced and spoke to us. Went on that it was God place to judge and man's place to obey gods word and love his fellow man. That folks shouldn't judge others, but love and accept them, do good works and help others when you can, be nice to one another. And this was a catholic school in the 70s, when I hear some "religious" folks today I have to shake my head and walk away.

The time of Kent State required a lot of introspection and redoubled love. Good that your RC-school had the for- and insight to get this priest (name?) to share a message of love and kindness with you which has lasted and has been carried further. Every Christian picks and chooses. There are so many different, sometimes even contradictory messages in the bible, no one (not even biblicists) can follow all of it. Since that is the case, Christians should be very conscious about their method of choice; are you just letting your biases and privilege make the choice or is it fear that motivates your exegesis? Martin Luther named a method or a key to read the bible: a Christian should look for "was Christum treibet" (what brings out Christ). Basically, it's a little like WWJD: you look at Jesus's words and example and ask yourself what Jesus would say about a passage in the bible. We know that radical love was his most central message, so we should let radical love make our picking and choosing. Btw. Jesus never talked about LGBTQ topics (as far as we know from the bible), so it did not seem to be an issue for him.

@@howardcohen6817 truth be told the hook is already within each one of us. it comes down to our choices. it comes down to our own triggers. in my studies over the decades, i have struggled to understand this myself. and frankly the current political climate in the US today finally completed the understanding i was struggling with when it came to understanding the psychology of the 20 to 40s. Germany was one of the most cultural and technologically advanced cultures and yet they fell for the rhetoric. in large part because of a devil with a silver tongue and his cohorts. but one of the triggers that were used so effectively was an ingrained hatred of a different religion. we all have the capacity for prejudice. it is simply a weakness that every human has. and the way we are taught as kids can make it a greater possibility just as much as it can be cautioned against. it is us who make the choice as to whether we accept it and let it germinate or if we battle back against it. we also like to feel we are superior to another it makes us feel powerful and righteous. that is the drug. when in fact we are all equal in our capacity for good and evil. in our humanity and inhumanity. some don't believe in the duality of life but i do. the fact is when a person falls into a group that keeps stoking the flames of hatred it instils in us the belief that because others feel as we do then we must be thinking correctly. and the more people that join only increases that certainty. that is the hook of propaganda. it takes innate prejudices and gives them a sense of strength, acceptance and justification. and you can never forget the fact of peer pressure. when you hear so many times the same thing you can start to doubt what you believed before. if so many others around you believe something that you don't then you start questioning if you're wrong. I'm not saying that this is right. I'm just talking about the psychological part of propaganda.

She would help anyone, no questions asked, because that's what she believed was right. Honestly, I believe that even if she wasn't a Christian, she would have been the same person who inspired me as a child. She also raised my mother who, in turn, strengthened those values of kindness and empathy in me. When I hear these hate-filled preachers trying to incite violence against people they don't like, it breaks my heart that they seek to diminish and destroy the good work done by people like my Nana and by you. It saddens me that they abuse the Bible by weaponizing it and hiding behind it like cowards in order to rationalize the hatred that's buried deep in their hearts. Church has changed, I grew up in the 60's and raised in the church, twice on Sunday, Wednesday, and countless youth programs, and as I got older, I started noticing change, and by the time I reached 19 I came to believe that the Church that I knew was no longer. I am now 65 and have my own church in my heart because I believe that what an evangelist once told me, he said "stop, find a mirror look into that mirror and ask yourself, I am I ready to meet my Lord and Savior if I should die today", remember worry about oneself and stop judging others because you might lose your own soul and be lost forever. Rev. Trevors your words that you say, I reminds me of my youth and the ones who taught me to believe that words can help or destroy one's faith and what I know is that the words he used will not be good for his soul when it's his turn.

It's too damned easy to become the monster you're resisting and that video made me livid. "See things as they are, not as you would have them be." THAT is sound advice. Being different is not a sin. Period. THIS IS HOW IT IS. And it's backed by scientific EVIDENCE. It's this sort of harmful mentality that caused me to break off a 40-year friendship last year and a near-20-year friendship this year. If these people -- you're being awfully generous just callin' them ass-hats, Rev -- wanna be this hateful and harmful to others because the bible tells them so, then I wanna be equally vehement in my response.

Because I am a non-believer I believe I may hear your message a tad differently than most practitioners. But, end of day, I also believe your sincere and honest words transcend from religion to all corners of life. There have been "asshats" in the church for way too long, twisting the word and twisting the views and beliefs of their congregations for their own means. These are the kind of people who caused me to stop going to church. These are the people who drive society apart. Don't let them drive us apart. Thank you, Rev. You are one of my reminders that faith isn't about judgment and "battle", but about love, acceptance, and forgiveness, no matter how difficult they can all be sometimes. God bless you, Sir.

If the term "battle" must be used I think it could only be a battle within ourselves to recognize and alter the things in our own lives that keep us from becoming who we were meant to be. Inner turmoil results from looking honestly at ourselves and candidly admitting how far off the mark we are most of the time.

I'm so thankful that I have found you on KZbin. I've never heard of God described in the way that you do. In my young years I was raised Southern Baptist in northwest Arkansas and I've lived the rest of my life in mid-Missouri. Fire and brimstone in every since. I've been in an epic 40 year battle with myself over "should l praise God or should I run from God". God always sounding so horrible to me. The people i've always have been surrounded by have always been so horrible. God won't love me or help me unless I worshipped him, but because I asked questions, I was told I wasn't worshipping God but the devil. Faith meant no questions. God only loved certain people. I've been rejected from the few churches that I've been to as an adult. Always made me wonder if the people didn't like me or if God didn't like me. I've been watching you the last couple of months, as for my relationship with God, I'll have to wait and see but it feels good to listen to someone say that God loves everyone.

As someone with a great disdain for most forms of Christianity post Gnostic, I find you a tiny point of brilliance in sea of darkness. If I believed in Satan or the Antichrist it certainly seems like their vehicle is actually the religious right. Specifically to this video. Don’t know if you have done a video on it but Jesus’s discussion of Eunuchs in Matthew is definitive evidence ( to me ) Jesus says they are born that way. In Roman law male homosexuals were called Eunuchs. As was any man who was celibate. Therefore the 3 types mentioned are castrated, celibate for religion, and gay. He even prefaces this by saying people would resist this. Please look into this if you haven’t already. I find it funny that on the opposite page is the whole Rich man, Camel through the eye of the needle quote. Perhaps all Republican bibles have those pages stuck together.

Thank you. I saw the video you referenced yesterday. Now I've seen some of the SUPER crazy far righty preachers scream and jump around and call for whatever they are calling for in the name of God that fulfills their righty agendas.... but THIS a$$ Hatt genuinely simultaneously scared me and made me sick. You so eloquently stated how his lazy self cherry picked a verse and crammed it into his agenda. Just as disturbing are the voices of what sounds like his 3 parishioners "yupping" behind the camera in his stripmall church. Thank you again for your rational, thoughtful, and intellectual words and interpretations of the Word of God. The last six years and what the U.S has trended towards has my relationship with the church in general at a crossroads, but a man of God such as yourself gives me a lifeline to hang on to and remember that there are preachers of the Word that keep the beliefs, the message, the meaning, and God's intentions for his people at the heart of your words.

Ok... I have to laugh at myself.... I called it a stripmall church because of the acoustics in the video just sounded very small space oriented. I searched the church after that and found it....... in a stripmall. Now I know the church can be defined as ANYPLACE 2 or more people gather in God's name, so Im not making light of true Christians and where they worship, but somehow this cheap sideshow snake oil salesman spewing his venom in a retail space seems ironic and apropos. Beware of false prophets is never more meaningful than it is now... and the followers of this church and other similar churches may not end up where they are hoping to.

Listening to you makes me wish I lived close so I could attend your church. I have sited the area previously & found it beautiful! I'm new to learning the teachings of God & Jesus but I too have wondered about the teachings of some religious leaders in the past couple of years. There seems to be an overabundance of asshats, with the largest portions being in American politics & religious teachers. I live in west Michigan so I've listened to a lot of such words. I remember thinking a long time ago that way too many people did horrendous things in the name of their gods. Nowadays people seem to think they can judge & place value on others in the name of their gods. Even to this rookie, they must be reading a different Bible than I've read, as the words they spew & the attitudes they promote certainly are not those that would have come from God or Jesus! Thanks again for your words! Take care.
