The person who said the Sub doesn't garner a second glance isn't just right about the Sub, they're right about ALL watches. I think watch enthusiasts need to understand that 99.9% of people don't care what you have on your wrist. If you're trying to purchase a Rolex or any luxury watch to impress other people or "flex" outside of a few Instagram photos, you're going to be VERY disappointed. You might get a quick glance, but people aren't going to line up and compliment you. Most people won't even notice what you're wearing in the first place. It's important to get the watch you want to please yourself and NOT a watch to please the people around you. If you get a compliment, that should be icing on the cake: but not the deciding factor driving the wheel. You'll save yourself a LOT of money and buyer's remorse this way. Cheers!

Great video! I think it’s a bit harsh calling a sub semi-luxurious and that it is too common. Sure you see plenty (especially sub dates). To me the greatness of a watch isn’t made up by it’s quantity but by the looks, the horology, looks, and how it makes you feel.

I agree. I notice a different quality in keeping the time when comparing my AP to the Rolexes. The Rolexes flawlessly keep the time across all the versions I own. AP loses time far sooner. Can’t deny the beauty of the Royal Oak though.

HWD answers a question about comparing which watch is a better value for the "money" at 10:33: the Omega Speedmaster or the Rolex Daytona. However, as a Rolex biased dealer, HWD never answered the question. I do not plan on doing a feature-to-feature comparison-- there are plenty of videos. The Omega offers great value because it is much lower in price, and does have history with the NASA space program, and holds it value over time. Rolex offers great value because if you are lucky enough to buy one at retail from an AD, the watch appreciates. Bottom line, you decide if the lower price or the price appreciation is more important to you.

I was told by the AD that I could give them my information and they would order it and I would be looking at anywhere from 3 mo- to 1 year for delivery. I agree. I traded a bluesie in for my AK, in Covid-times. Within a week of wearing the AK, I had random compliments on it, which I never had with the Sub. No regrets here. Its kinda low-key too. Feel more comfortable wearing it in public than a bolder watch.

I paid £16k at the worst time grey market (ie mid last year) for my 126610lv, but as I was told by two ADs I wasn't the sort Rolex want to deal with and offered a ladies Datejust by another....f'off, I just walked into a shop (actually a pawn broker) with one in the window, quick look, he was happy to whip the back off to show the free sprung balance and adjustment screws (all but proving it's real), card swipe, walk out wearing the watch ... didn't even ask my name.

With the Rolex watches on the grey market - were they purchased in the UK or are they purchased abroad? If they are from dealers abroad will they have had UK duty and taxes paid on them? I ask as we all know that insurance companies will get out of paying anything if they can and if they were to find out that a watch that was imported did not have the due taxes paid they would worm out of paying. Another concern would be if the original purchases claimed the watch was stolen after selling it and you only find out ten years down the line after sending it to Rolex for a service. What provenance other than the box and tags does the seller provide? Would the original sales receipt form part of the provenance or would that be some breach of current data protection laws? I really want to get a Rolex but there are so many hurdles……

So if you buy from a reputable dealer numerous checks will be carried out that show the watch has not been stolen or had any insurance claims made against it - you need to make sure you get evidence of this from the dealer. Regarding the insurance, shouldn’t be affected from overseas watches at all. I hope this helps!

To be honest I think the Speedmaster Pro is a far nicer chronograph for a man than the Daytona as it’s just too busy. I actually had the offer of a Daytona in the AD a long time back as well as a SkyDweller more recently (I have a good buying history of other Rolex from them) and the Daytona looks more like a lady’s watch and the SkyDweller although beautiful was just a bit too brick-like for me. I’m not the only one in my watch collectors circle that thinks that either. Obviously if they offered me a Daytona now I’d take it lol.

it makes sense for a secondary market dealer to convince everyone the list doesn't exist, because that will just dissuade people from being patient and to head on over to their stores to make their purchases at heavy margins. the list does exist and it is attached to your customer profile with the authorized dealer. if you're not getting a watch within a few months, the dealer likely suspects you're at risk of not keeping the watch and flipping it. I went to an AD with no spend history in December expressing interest in a particular dj41. The AD took my information down and said he would be in touch and let me know when the allocation would open up to order it. I was contact 10 days later to come in and place a deposit for the order, and I received the exact model I wanted in 3 weeks. this was followed by a black bay chrono a month later, and another dj41 2 months later. The dealer has a list and read it off to me when I picked up the last watch about the other watches I am interested in.

I think for me the yellow gold yacht master is a dream piece. But personally I don’t like any submariners that have a cross color combination like green and black. It looks off and weird to me. Other than the blusey that one is the only exception. Otherwise if your getting a submariner(I have the all black one) I feel like that’s the best in terms of every day wearability or even the ability to be formal.

I live here in Australia and I've never heard nor seen a new Rolex being available on the grey market lower than retail. This must be a joke. I go to the OS websites and prices are nearly double to what they are here due to the currency conversion. So this information is irrelevant. I have checked the prices on your website and I can see that the prices are at a minimum double to what the prices are here at retail.

100% true! A Rolex Daytona is never ever better then the Omega Moonwatch! For decades, the Daytona lay like lead on the shelves and could only be sold with a lot of discount. Then, a few years ago, the hype around this watch began, just because a Hollywood star, who 99% of today's young people do not even know, wore this watch in a movie. How can such a watch have more history and prestige than a watch that was on the moon?! Here, the wearing of a watch by an actor in a film is portrayed as more significant than the greatest event of mankind, namely the moon landing. That is ridiculous! Of course, the Moonwatch is much better than the Daytona!
